As the error says, you would have to open the port
will disabling my firewall work ?
do I need to restart my router?
after I did it
Generally not necessary
You will also need to either disable the firewall or open the ports in the firewall as well
Specifically in the incoming section
is this an issue in the game ? It wasnt like that before
It is not no, the port was added since several months back, it is an optional port
You can either use it if you have any issues or not use it
well, it didnt help
my friend's ping is like 500-900
Did your friend try to connect to other servers and check the ping there?
maybe I should restart my server after disabling the firewall?
You do the same
no, we didn't
like public servers?
Yes
If his ping is bad there, its an issue with his network
If your ping is bad there, its an issue with your network
we're on a call right now, we both have good internet connection
we also tried playing other games and everything was fine
okay let me see on a public
alright my ping is good on a public server
And your friends?
But on your server there is high ping, are you perhaps far away from each other?
I mean we dont live next to each other
so yeah
as I said, it wasn't like that before
everything was alright yesterday for example
it also said that the port was closed but the ping was good
might be the game's fault tbh
Right, meaning something happened on your server between yesterday and today
Added any new mods?
How much RAM is assigned?
nope, no new mods
2gb ram
as it was before
no changes
we also tried on her hosting, game was unusually taking ages to load
The server itself needs around 2 GB, but the players themselves need more
And the RAM increases the longer you play
Because more items are saved and so on
ohhh that makes lots of sense
Which is why 4 is the recommended amount
alright we'll try, give me a moment
when I was playing on another coop server we had way more stuff and it still was good on 2GB
which is weird
so yeah I think it might be a temporary issue
and the game's fault, idk
@mint jackal I tried putting 4gb, game runs on better ping but it's still bad. Like vehicle teleporting and stuff like that, game runs on 140 ping. should I try putting more ram?
Can you explain the vehicle teleporting?
Do cars just stand still and then teleport?
Cars stand still, then they teleport or vehicle totally freezes and you need to rejoin to make it work again properly
You mean while driving them?
Yes
so is there anything I can do to fix this problem?
Depends, do the driving issues happen when driving alone? Could you explain them further?
Does it happen with specific cars?
oh and it teleports for the other person
not for me (im the host)
And what happens when the other person is driving it alone?
everything seems fine, but yeah it's still weird
but I'm looking to fix the ping problem specifically
and now I have trouble with even loading the server with new settings
it says initializing all the time
Did you add any mods to these "new settings"?
And can you try restarting your PC and then hosting again?
yes I did
okay I figured it out
britas armour pack somehow breaks it
Yes some mods do not work well with each other
Do some mods randomly break on multiplayer? Like I can use armour pack on single player.
so I just need to wait for the creator of the mod to fix it right?
Yes, if others are having the same issue, you can usually check their Workshop page and look at the comments
Or you can ask people in #mod_support
Sadly comments are disabled on this specific mod
also is there anything else what I can do to fix the ping problem?
Ping itself is just the time it takes to transfer data between two computers basically
It is mainly affected by internet speed and distance
The port that you have closed also affects it by about 20ms
If you do want to open it, I would suggest contacting your internet service provider, since some of them have the port blocked on their side
Meaning they would have to open it for you for the port to work correctly
Okay thank you so much for help, one more question, is this port even safe to open? I heard some ports are unsafe to open and might cause trouble
as I said before, there was no problem with network before, we started experiencing it some time ago very randomly
Most ports are safe to be opened, unless the application behind that port is not safe. Which Project Zomboid is fairly safe as far I would know
Computers have several ports open by default as well
Like port 80 if I remember correctly
Is it possible to open a server on port 80 then ?
