I always do a quick pickle which is slicing into bite size chunks after cutting the cucumber in half
50/50 vinegar and water
I normally use apple cider vinegar and you can reuse the same pickle liquid a few times if you're sanitary with it
Bring the vinegar and water to a boil and put in the cucumber for 1 minute, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool.

put in a jar or whatever, this is a decent recipe to see how you like the texture and taste.
if they are too mushy for you, next time cool the pickles after moving them to a bowl in an ice bath

True, but thats why you should always think and learn about them before you act. For example if there was an another planet full of humans like us but with a completely backwards governmental system. Should we change it or let them go on as they are? We dont know enough to know if changing it would help so in this case its best to leave it alone, but if its bad. Then possibly one would have to intervene. If its better then ours then should we adopt the same government system or just keep ours the way it is? Thats a different question for a different day.

Back to if we should introduce new technologies or systems to a outdated species. Its very complicated to say yes or no. Yes to help, no to avoid the risk of them self destructing and possibly taking you with them. Its always a gamble which is why researching the folks would be the safest bet.
