least I can do is make sure I have the tech needed to distract my brother from drugs and bad friendships while helping me keep my stress levels down during this trial arrangement
the hard part is knowing my brother may well relapse and wind up back in jail within weeks and planning for the flip side of positive expectations is much harder given his history when the expectations are that if he's been clean and focused for 3 months then I'd make the move out there for the remainder of the lease on a more formal temporary timeframe. I made it clear to my dad I can't live with someone I'm afraid of but I can try and be a supportive brother and caretaker while it mutually benefits our situations, which is by nature going to be just and ONLY as long as it takes for my brother to learn how to buy into his longterm sobriety and mental healthcare

scrub down with soap and steel wool until it's no longer shiny and then you wash and dry, then it's a slow couple day long process of adding a coat of high burn temp oil and letting it bake the layer on and then cool down in the oven before repeating as needed

seasoning is a thick set of layers of baked on oil which seals the cast iron so it can withstand regular washing until the layer is depleted and starts to chip
a lot of people clean with a wet towel and water first and give it a minimal wipe with soapy water, I just wash as normal and plan on reseasoning a bit more frequently
might have to do it twice in a decade but I don't really care
