Pick a distro, download an ISO from the website, install it to a USB drive, (google that part it's been forever and I forget exactly how) turn the computer off, turn it back on. You'll see a prompt appear for a short moment that says something like
Press [a key] for BIOS or boot menu, do that, you may need to reboot a couple of times to see which key and actually catch the window to press it, boot the USB drive, you'll see code on the screen fly by, don't worry and you'll get into what's called a live environment. As I said before, it's basically a lite version of the OS, feel free to poke around and see how it looks and feels. If you wanna go back, reboot your PC and you'll be back to windows and nothing will change, when you're ready to commit, follow the instructions on the installer

Remember to BACK UP EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KEEP AS YOI WILL FORMAT YOIR DRIVE AND IT WILL BE GONE
