Boston Dynamics is lightyears ahead of any of the generative AI companies in that aspect. because to be absolutely clear: when i say ai, i am explicitly talking about Generative Artificial Intelligence, which, at least in our lifetime, is always going to be far more computationally expensive and still shittier than any human laborer. I bring up Boston Dynamics because their work actually can and has resulted in applicable industrial robotics that have on the fly decision making. the key difference is they actually know what the fuck they're doing, and are not using "generative ai", as in all the stuff thats currently exploding. as far as i can tell Boston Dynamics whole shtick is just regular programming and robotics at an extremely high level of quality and development. it's just an entire other ballpark that generative ai is never gonna reach

models like chatgpt can absolutely data analysis because it's already a subject that is essentially logical operators that happen to have meaningful names for humans. (i.e the machine doesn't need to understand what a tree is to parse that 12 planks > 4 rocks)
the issue is quality control, because it is incredibly well documented how these models tend to either hallucinate entire chunks of data in or out of existence, or knowingly skew data in order to produce a result that the user finds favorable, (even if it isn't truthful) due to how the reward system for training ai models works.

you are right that my perspective is biased towards blue collar jobs, which are not going anywhere ai anytime soon. (can chatgpt come to my house and do my electrical wiring for me?) ive already seen a number of cases of white collar positions being lost to ai which is really terrible, and my concern for that is less about job replacements, (which again, is still terrible) and more that i fear the majority of mainstream content both on the internet and elsewhere (movies, games, pretty much anything in design or the entertainment industry) will get way shittier as corpos cheap out and use ai in place of actual artists. if i had to do a silver lining i would hope that the enshittification will cause the value of indie content both in gaming landscape and just small businesses in general to increase, as those are the kind of positions i feel that will still be looking for human employees and hold value in making quality content.
