in the most recent image above he inputted the dividend 355[which goes on the top most row], set the calculator to / [find the quotient of] and inputted the dividor on the columns below

the output is shown by the second row of numbers on the top and is calculated by cranking the lever
you are essentially calculating how many times the dividor [113] can "go into" 355
hence the 3, 14159..
when you cant "go into" 355 anymore you simply move the dashboard to the left [a decimal place] and you have an extra "0" to work with so for example 14 becomes 140, in which the dividor can go once, hence the 3.141 and so on
