Having worked directly with the fraud department for 2 of the 3 console companies I can tell you that everyone in fraud hates the monetization practices.

Customer service agents, in general, for Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo also hate it. 25% of every employee's work day is dealing with V-buck refunds. Not kidding. 25% of all customer service calls into Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are because of Fortnite: chargebacks, refunds and fraud for ONE game takes up 1/4 of the work day for anyone working customer service at these console companies.

The store, the one-click purchase options, lack of age verification. is all done knowingly that a 8-12 year old kid is going to purchase thousands of dollars in V-bucks.

The game? Great game.

But I know for a fact that when 80% of fraud goes unreported, the millions in fraud refunded every month is just the 20% that gets caught.

The companies just don't openly talk about it because their own online stores are set up the same way to allow impulse buying. So ultimately, it's not just Fortnite, but everyone is supporting the "one click" shopping knowing that parents are dum, few actually use parental controls, and kids will spend the money without a second thought.

Epic Games is also fully aware of this. Their store is set up with intent to target vulnerable children and their inability to grasp concepts like money. They were already found guilty by the FTC for gathering personal information on tens of thousands of kids under age 13
