Short answer: yes.
Long answer: everything is complicated.
You lose calories for everything you do. Walk < Jog < sprint. Carpentry, chopping down trees, combat, carrying excessice weight.
Everything you do increases or decreases your normal calorie loss rate.

Without working out, you can hit rank 6 just casually jogging/carrying heavy stuff in a couple weeks.
After that, if your bored then work out before doing house stuff and don’t get into combat with muscle strain active.
You can get rank 10 in both after a couple months of NOT hyper focusing on it

If you have to grow things yourself, growing corn is much less work (per chemfuel) than growing trees. You can also use insect meat / human meat / hay-created kibble in a refinery with no penalty.
