a point in carving allows you to make really good handles really easily, which is a big thing if you're an axe/shortblade user or working with particular long blunts
carving also allows you to make infinite shortblunt and longblunt(?) weapons at around max level, and its really annoying to level up carving when you dont start with a bonus in it and dont have books

being able to get knapping to lv5 without any problems opens up a lot of doors, like knapping Large Stone Axe Heads, which are a great substitute for the traditional stone axe

a point in foraging is really helpful, it just makes it so fast

i take athletic every single time but it is pretty expensive, and you can play around having lower fitness levels
hell, most people dont even take advantage of the higher fitness and then they take fast/slow metabolism and lose the huge bonus you get at lv9 fitness

@brave aspen An important note about skill gain XP; the base skill gain is not 100% but 25%. So, if you take Carpenter for +1 Short blunt at start, you're actually gaining Short Blunt XP at 4x the rate as someone who starts at 0 points in Short Blunt. This is why we don't usually state any one +1 or +2 to skill trait as particularly good, but why Bushcrafter is really good.

You might have known this already, or might not. I only learned this after coming here.

On the wiki you will see something like how much XP you supposedly gain from dismantling a digital watch for example, but that XP on the wiki is if you had 100% XP gain and not 25%. I think an Engineer starts with +1 Electrical now.

Oh yeah, and your GUI will say you have an XP bonus to Strength or Fitness, but it's false. They are not subject to any XP gain bonuses, except from slow/fast metabolism. The UI is just fucked that way and the devs still don't prioritize it after over a decade

How much does the area affect finding Crops? I looked in a Farmland biome and didn't have much luck in either category, but now I'm in a Forest and finding a ton more in both. Man, what is up with West Point. By all metrics it seems easily manageable, and yet every time I play there I never live long enough for the helicopter. I just got bit int he neck, two zombies at town hall. I was inside and a zombie by the main doors started banging on the windows. I ran out the doors to save the window, there's another zombie that surprises me but I beat it to death with the crowbar anyway. The moment I had opened the doors, the windowlicker broke the window and jumped in. I had accidentally closed both doors as I panicked at the surprise. Turn back to open the doors, and somehow I fumble them and the windowlicker bites my neck as I flail around helplessly.

Someone a long time ago told me that the zombie migration that happens on the map means that eventually, all the zombies are concentrated against the river, since they can't migrate over water. So West Point and LV end up being more congested than other towns eventually, even with the pop turned to normal or low levels
