I think it would be really cool to have a docking station for the rover so that you could just auto navigate back home when you are on a far venture out .

You could auto pilot back to the dock and it would just be the rover that you have to consider. Maybe making it as big as a full wagon train? but the rover is the reason it docks.

Knowing nothing about development, I would think you already have a system in place considering the drones do this already, but you'd need the user to be able to trigger the autopilot on command or interupt it.

the Drones move in a straight line, and they fly to avoid terrain issues, which may not be as easy to do with the rovers.

i could see this as a nice thing to have however, and it would be even better if it was able to create a meandering path that moves through the valleys on the way home.

Im gonne be honest

#

I am against this idea

#

Because i feel like it would take away a big part of the exploring

#

Which is finding your way back

#

Maybe if it had a rather small limited range

maybe it could be something that you have to sacrifice to use, like it takes up a slot on your wagons like the scanner or storage module does. Could also be a later game unlock so you've already done the exploring part.

no but during the whole getting back you can still trail off or just go past things that you might go pick up or whatever. During that time you get to know the world, experience the emptyness of it. If you add any type of automated way back home or automated driving itd remove that entire part of the experience. Its comparable with having to find your way across the city yourself or as a passenger of a car who's driver knows the route and where to go.

I also very much noticed this when Subnautica added the auto-drive (by pressing X or something) in below-zero, even though it just emulates holding W for you.

And that extra time exploring and getting to know the planet also really enhances the immersion of the whole scene and planet
