Since the update in october every unit is treated as its base rarity when training the super attack.
As an example:
int LR [Strike of Full Anger] Super Saiyan Goku is still treated as if he was int SSR / UR [Final Battle of Planet Namek] Super Saiyan Goku, so every SSJ Goku SSR has a 50% chance to level his SA and every SSJ Goku UR has a 100% chance to level his SA.

Note: Some units are only available as LR and dont have previous awakening stages (as example str LR [Shadow Dragon on the Righteous Path] Nuova Shenron), these units still have very low chances to level the SA with SSR or UR units.

Additionally, every different form a unit has during its awakening path can be used to level the super attack.
int LR [Legend Reborn] Super Saiyan God Goku goes through the following forms during his awakening:
Goku
Super Saiyan Goku
Super Saiyan God Goku

So all three of these forms can be used to level the super attack.

Well like 80% of building teams is the units' passives and their own strength

#

The other 19% are their links and the last 1% is that they all fit under the lead

#

The best links within a team do not achieve anything if the units' passives are so shit that the units dont function.
You obviously need to have good links within your main rotations, but (again) if the units themselves are shit that doesnt matter.
That they are all under the lead is just such a basic requirement that needs to be fulfilled that I wouldnt say its worth "practicing".

You only need three of that category and you dont even need to finish the event fully, so you can just do it with some filler units
