Trying to make a sonar effect?

Basically when a fish is biting the rod I want to try to take whatever that is thats about to be fished up and turned into a display hovering above the rod

I'm just setting it to " set display item of last spawned entity to cod"
But I want it to like, detect what item is about to be fished and displayer it instead, life if im fishing and the thing on the line is like an enchanted book, or salmon or smth

i want that displayed instead.

i don't think there's an event value for that

but you could make it set the item to the item of the last dropped item

Defeats the point, since once you fish it up you already can see what you got

i don't know if minecraft even does that

that it would choose an item once it bites the fishing rod

so i guess i can't help

yes minecraft decides what it is when you fish it up

so you'd have to somehow override the whole fishing loot mechanics with your own if you want to do this
