#Oviraptor Skill Move

Devs absolutely cooked with the Tupa skill move/spin thing. Broadly speaking, I really think more dinos should have a skill attack tied to a well timed input. Ovi should get the next one.

(Edited as of the 23rd of October) The skill move is relatively simple in theory, and would allow Ovi to contribute more to team fights. If an Ovi taps jump right as they connect with a pounce target, instead of pinning, it will vault off the human in the direction it is looking, doing a bit of damage. If the Ovi lands on another human, or the same human again, it can try to chain another vault/pounce.

Included a terrible example graphic, imagine a sick flourish type leap as the Ovi vaults off the human.

This idea would be for Ovi specifically since, in my humble opinion, it's just a weaker Nova. Just to reiterate, I'm not saying Ovi is bad, but it lacks the sauce that makes other subclasses feel more unique.

Even if this specifically isn't implemented, maybe give Ovi a skill move to differentiate it more from Nova. The differences are neat on paper, but in execution Ovi doesn't feel as unique from Nova as it should.

Well placed Nova pounces can traverse entire maps, making the travel speed/stamina difference trivial IMO. Sure, pounce on Ovi kills faster, but 9/10 times you go for a pounce, you do it when no other human can see, again, kinda trivial. The sensing roar is great, but it's just a bit boring compared to what makes other subclasses different from their progenitors.

tl;dr - ovi is fine, but nova is just that guy. an ovi skill move sounds like the perfect way to give ovi some love without buffing what is already an effective class. also add more skill moves, godly addition.

I like it conceptually, but I feel like this game has more than enough knockback/stun/etc that limit or remove your control and would rather not have yet another

#

extremely valid, this was mostly inspired by super early nova concepts that included some kind of body roll that displaced humans

#

then again, like all cut content, it was prob cut for a good reason

regardless, i've been top fragging lots as nova lately and can't help but think that, ptera-esque roar or not, ovi doesn't especially do much different from nova in the grand scheme of things. saying that as a raptor player since 2013

I'd like more diversity between nova and ovi

#

same here, a skill move would the nice solution without a class rework in general

nova was already adept at doing the things ovi was designed to, if you have a half decent flier marking humans while playing nova then i kinda forget ovi even exists

Your concept art skills are on par with developers so good job with getting your point across
The real problem with knockback right now is the camera locking, but we have enough knockbacks for the game as it is
Perhaps a stun or some kind of attack interruption could work, maybe even a kinda of "chain" jump between humans
I like the idea behind it though

totally fair, ovi needs something unique. it's the most kitbash-ey subclass imo, and the only one that just feels like a direct downgrade of the original class instead of doing its own thing

i do want more ovi stuff although id say that while this is cool and a good idea id prefer any ovi additions to synergize more with it's stealth-assassin oriented playstyle

Seems cool, though I’m not sure I’m sold on another type of stunlock

I’m always excited to have better class differentiation though

I used to love the idea of stalker Ovi. My gripe with it is the fact that Nova has always been an incredibly capable assassin, making Ovi’s niche feel already filled.

Instead of stunning, the vault could just do some major chunk damage. Then the Ovi could try to land on another human for another vault/pounce.

It would be nice if Ovi could contribute something more to team fights, considering most of the gameplay loop is team fights. Even it’s intended purpose of picking off stragglers is something most dinos just inherently do well

rewrote the attack to no longer include a stun/cc, and a new silly graphic as well

I like that much more

#

tl;dr #2 - focusing on the acrobatic abilites of ovi, and giving it some type of movement related tech that the Nova CANNOT do, would be better to differentiate it from nova

#

i mean, nova IS an assassin already,

What if it did bleed?

i know people HATE bleed and DOT but i'd be so down

Yeah I feel it

#

It’s Offtopic to this thread but I always wanted Ovi grazing and double jump

high tide
#

feel free to spitball any ovi ideas those sound dope, i think you might have made a thread like that in the past iirc lol

i'll take anything tho, with cerato and pachy out, all these years later ovi just seems like the most bland subclass, right down to its roar being an ability that was technically already in the game

high tide
#

oh yeah that's the one i remember, might put #Ovihaul into my name here lmao

imagine if tupa could grab, had no headbutt, and was just a bit faster than ptera

or if cryo had DoT, similar spit to dilo, and was just a bit tankier.

seems a bit redundant right? that's basically what ovi feels like currently, to be brutally honest

hopefully the addition of the cerato crit and tupa spin means devs are brainstorming ways to flesh dinosaur combat out a bit more, maybe i'm the oddball here but humans are just way more satisfying to play as now, and i say that as the kid who would leave when they got switched to human in 2012

I haven't enjoyed playing as dinos in years because their movement feels so archaic and less precise.

A bit of knockback might be better, gives you the option to seperate a human more or even kick them off ledges/the map , at the risk of your pounce missing and it being you learning to fly.
