when asking for help it's very necessary for anyone wishing to assist you in troubleshooting that you include as much info as you can and all of the troubleshooting steps you've tried already that didn't work.
how long was it working before issues started, if possible what has changed about your pc setup between when the program worked fine to when you started having trouble, have you tried a system restore point, what caused your computer to crash
have you restarted your computer is #1 question for me, have you tried opening steam first and then running the game, have you tried running in compatibility mode, have you tried running as administrator, do you have this problem with other games, etc.
compatibility mode and steam are the things I would try
I've never seen this box before though. That's a new one
Sorry yeah I guess you guys get a lot of randos and whatnot but i immediately tried restarting, compatibility mode and steam (because I was told to try this for my previous issue)
It was working for like 30-45 mins in a couple different lobbies. Then my PC crashed after that I started getting this error
No idea what caused it to crash
IMO the biggest issue with troubleshooting technology problems is that SO MANY variables are at play that could be causing an issue. The way I usually approach technology troubleshooting is ruling out what ISN'T the problem, which involves a lot of questions. You're more than welcome to DM me whenever if you want some non-staggered several hours later replies. I'm no tech expert but I do consider myself to be relatively proficient with computers and general tech support.
The error message you posted a pic of is indicating some sort of memory issue which is the typical issue many people have posted about recently - though I can't confirm others receiving the exact error message you're getting - most of them just say it crashes. The steam fix works in most of these cases.
So you had a working remix rom for a grand total of 30-45 minutes over a single day? Or did it work for multiple days? Is the pc/setup new?
I believe you've said vanilla works and is playable online with your current setup but remix doesn't, correct?
Have you tried any other games in the client? When you say "computer crashed" do you mean a blue screen of death crash? Has that same crash occurred at any point since?
Have you tried downloading a fresh pj64kse from smash64.online again?
Since the most common fix of opening steam before remix seemingly has not worked: While redundant, I would test to ensure you have a working vanilla ROM (if it were me I'd test that it works on a Kaillera server as well as offline) and then I would go through the process of patching the (tested and functional) ROM into a remix ROM again. Make sure your default memory size in Options->Settings->Options is set to 8mb.
In addition to using compatibility mode set to Windows 7, did you also run the program as administrator?
Have you tried updating graphics drivers? VERY unlikely, but are you certain your computers RAM hasn't accidentally come loose somehow?
If there was a BSOD, I would also check your system's file integrity, just for redundancy. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/using-system-file-checker-in-windows-365e0031-36b1-6031-f804-8fd86e0ef4ca

Appreciate all of this Breakthrough. Lot to take in here but since I had already tried steam, run as admin + compatability, updating graphics drivers (i thought originally this was the culprit of BSOD but it wasn't) and restarting, and ALSO I had BSOD issues outside of this emu, I opted to try the SFC instructions you linked. It found and fixed corrupt files.
I should have tried the emu again before this but I wasn't thinking. I did it and the emulator works (although with the inconsistence and seeming randomness of issues, this might not be bc of the SFC)
As of now it is working, although I'm getting "Failed to change display mode" and it's not going to fullscreen. I may be able to figure that one out on my own though.
the fullscreen issue was caused by resolution settings somehow getting changed. That's fixed now.
So until issues arise again I will assume it's back to normal. Thank you for your help.
Only issues I have now are a bit of the typical stuttering it's always had for me (esp audio stuttering) and issues with P2P but I think that might be a verizon issue.
I'm just glad you were able to find resolution to your issue. The issue you were describing, from the bit of research I was doing, was sometimes caused by corrupted .dll files which these programs rely on to function properly. Those files would have been fixed from the SFC check. However, whether or not the SFC was helpful to resolving your issue, I'm just glad you were able to resolve your issue.

HOW TO PLAY SMASH 64/SMASH REMIX ONLINE Intro This is a guide that’s designed to help people start playing Smash 64 through netplay. It's may seem complicated at first, but it’s pretty simple once you get the hang of things. To get started, you MUST get the emulator from https://smash64.onli...
If you can be more specific about p2p issues, I MIGHT be able to help, depending on what the issue is. I helped both miniohh and Finio over the last week successfully set up p2p correctly, so I'd be happy to help if I can.
I will add that troubleshooting p2p issues, depending on the issue, would involve significantly less ambiguous questions than troubleshooting your crash involved. So if it's within my capability to assist and you would like help just let me know.
you don’t happen to have some step by step instructions typed out about how to set up p2p do you? miniohh mentioned you helped him set it up for him which is awesome. i’d just like to set up p2p for myself since i feel bad when the other person is practically relying on a p2p connection
no, not typed out. it was just easiest to do over facetime so i could see his screen. i have the process completely nailed down, the only variable that typically changes is the router model's port forwarding interface/method. finio had to do it through the xfinity app on his phone which was new to me, since i've only ever done it by using a web browser to log in to the router settings.
you're welcome to dm me if you want me to try and guide you through it @potent forge
what do you mean? @quaint gulch i think i recall when helping finio that the static ip we were trying to port forward for wasn't listed on the apps dropdown list, so we just changed the static ip to one of the unused but listed ip's and was able to get it to work
just curious what your experience is that makes you say "sometimes you just can't port forward"
Wdym? It's based on device mac address
From what I know is that a recent firmware update broke port forwarding functionality
For XB8 models
port forwarding for me and finio had nothing whatsoever to do with mac address
was the firmware update forced? i'm typically a late adopter of firmware updates for critical items like a router bc of dumb bugs like that
I know I still haven't really given a ton of information but I found out the game loads in windowed mode. It's in fullscreen that it disappears. Also still only remix with the issue
