not an mmorpg but you can try Fallout 76

its pve by default (you have to change a setting ingame to allow pvp and other players cant touch you otherwise)

its sandbox enough that has common building elements from other games like palworld, ark, etc. and has mmo elements like public events and world bosses

only downside is 24 players per shard/instance

Palworld doesn't have open world PvP AFAIK. But it's not really an MMO as servers have a max capacity of 32 players.

and yeah minecraft servers just like palworld are better hosted dedicated. either a spare computer at your home or rented

fallout 76 is good for this as you take your camp/build and items/progression with you wherever you go

whether you join public or private servers

I think Embers adrift is marketedas "Hardcore PVE" so I think there shoudnt be PVP in there correct me if Im wrong? But there are many games where there is specific servers so theres on pve server and one pvp server almost all mmorpgs have the chanche to either switch of the ability to duel you or tochoose a server that dosent have it

I dont think embers is for you, there's no sandbox at all, its purely a pve grinding game where you have to find groups to progress (that's what I think he meant by calling it hardcore)

Pve opposit of pvp hardcore means harder like mobs is harder you need to group up with friends. The game has free to try if u ask for download link in discord

buying a dedicated server host is costs around 10-15 USD/month from what I can see.

when dont pay then your server deletes? or after you took a break and pay again then you have server back in same progression like when you played last time

That's gonna depend based on the server host. From what I've seen they usually keep your data around for a month after you stop paying. That said none of that is an issue if you just download the server map after you no longer want to pay for hosting.

Also, just to be sure, are you aware that you don't need a dedicated server to play with friends? You can just join one another's game through Steam. Of course this requires the host to have their game launched anytime someone wants to play. They also especially need stable internet connection

Same thing applies to dedicated servers, just make backups and it wont be an issue.

I feel obligated to mention Project Gorgon at this point... No bugs, but you can turn into a bunch of animals including spider, giant bat, rabbit or a fox

I don't think it's what you're looking for, I'm only mentioning it due to how rare MMOs that let you play full time as an animal are. I think it's literally just P:G now if Chimeraland shut down

Maybe also worth mentioning Farwoods? I think it was advertised on this discord recently. Again no playable bugs, just small woodland creatures in a browser based roleplay focused small scale experience.

Chimeraland was a unicorn in terms of character customization. Nothing realy comes close.

Yes. I really don't think it fits what you're looking for but it's the only mmorpg I know of that lets you play as an animal permanently

About P2W - there's an optional subscription that mainly gives you extra storage+inventory slots & allows slow offline leveling. Whether you consider that pay2win is up to you - I will say that the longer you play the less impactful the subscription feels.

As for the game shutting down/being dead - you can check the Steamcharts for the game, the population is tiny at around 100 players online at any given time, however it's been stable around that number for years. Right now the financial situation of the developers is grim, however it's at least been confirmed that full time development will continue throughout this year. Even if development couldn't continue after that point, the game would first go into maintenance mode rather than shut down outright
