#XML overload

getting kicked speedrun
what would i be getting kicked for exactly?
I do think MP servers should have an option to ban XML-edited planes from being spawned
cheating effectively
I have a feeling most multiplayer servers wouldn't be too accepting of overtly OP aircraft (also you're kind of an dingus if you wanna rk, not cool)
I think all of those sorts of aircraft should be locked to their own little server where they can duke it out in a "balanced" setting, relatively speaking
its not cheating if they integrate xml overload as a part of the game
that's what "effectively" means in that context, not everyone wants to play that sort of crap
Some people would want to have balanced or realistic dogfights as opposed to seeing who can input bigger numbers into a field
ok true
add a limit to what you can change or not; maximum and minimum limit for specific attribute
I think there is potential for highly customizable limitations, but a simple checkbox to limit craft to ordinary parameters is also valuable
i can agree
honestly this might be even more useful, I think you can honestly get like 50G turning mach 2 plane easily with stock parts, which would be a detriment to a server if you were trying to have realistic planes
also the way missiles look, without xml it seems like the capabilities are pretty insane either way
By "ordinary parameters" i meant 'part settings that can be achieved without XML editing'
yeah absolutely, imagine having like a ww2 or cold war dogfight invaded by 50g amraams
like I wouldnt rule out non xml mach 3 80G missiles
you could prob make some SRAAMS capable of like 100g+ im sure
Oh god another MP xml shenanigans debacle
as far as the original suggestion, the editor should have an XML editor. They put one in Juno so I'm assuming they will have one in SP2
yeah agreed
of course, but the way I use XML at least, I use it to fill gaps in the game
like higher thrust engines or better missiles.
if thats also how other people use XML, then I dont think it will be necessary but still helpful for goofy builds
its also pretty important for making weird contraptions and stuff (like a plane I made that is powered entirely by pistons), or basically anything creative enough to push the boundary of the game
that falls under "helpful for goofy builds"
landing gear bays I think also can require it too
I love the goofs and gaphs that SPs XML allows for
hell I have a mach 10 Ukrainian pig-mobile that has like 400 missiles
I just think for builds using standard parts it wont be required for good builds anymore
they're just L old craps flying around with inaccurate guns crying for kills
I mostly use XML for large builds in order to take up less parts, I really dont think limiting XML would really benefit some builds that make use of it to provide solutions to the features SP lacks
we might get JNO style procedural gears
And I also use it for larger builds like my Megaladon Class Battleship
small things like car suspension also sorta need it
there should be two official MP servers which one is a free godmode sandbox other one is for serious builds only
Im not saying no XML, Im just saying given the MASSIVE improvements we're going to get it wont be needed as much as it is now
??? XML has just been made easier to access? Nothing really happened to it where its gonna be needed less?
yeah i mostly use it for engines, wings, and weaponry to make up for issues with them in sp1
missiles mostly
engines probably (if we get procedural parts like JNO) - same with landing gears
Yeah, those are XML attributes, just made easier to modify
they have specifically said they're trying to make it less necessary to use XML
i mean everything is an xml attribute techinically
They mean less necessity to use Overload or other XML editors, all of it are still XML attributes
that is what the discussion about xml in this context is about, i think
what I mean when I say XML is like crazy modifications that are well outside of the scope of the base game
Literally the best solution for MP balance is player kicking, vote kicks, etc.
like in the current game you need to use XML if you want a missile that doesnt take an hour to lock and turn with a radius of 60 miles
yeah 100%
i dont think overload is a bad idea; i think we should have measures to stop MP being there with crappy OP invincible mach 500 flyarounds and 100% kill guarantee machines
In the end, XML Editing is still very useful, they are great for emulating arcadey physics if your working with a proper concept and great understanding of how the game works.
OH! isnt vote kicks my idea?
still, they can be abused, and IMO that's the biggest flaw in MP
and thanks to XML editing being available to civillians im an OP weapon planes designer
vote kick is definitely a good idea, but it can be abused
if they later require every player to have simpleplanes.com account, i think nope
I mean, would it really be that bad? We already have MP in SP1 and so far from what ive seen, everyone's just on their back foot, not wanting to be seen as a douchebag and refraining from those kinds of behavior.
Just drive the community attitude to be against that kind of abusive behavior and it will be heavily discouraged in the future
yeah i really don't think MP is going to cause some horrible issues with XML modding
It might not, but ideally people have an option to prevent being killed by mach 10 200g 50km range missiles other than 'ban player after'
those are prob going to be in base game; the game allows so much creativity that even within the confines of no XML modding there will be absurdly OP things
fr
I’m sure this has been said but xml is incredibly useful for builds from an aesthetic standpoint enough that it doesn’t make sense to limit it imo
While I do agree XML builds will have an advantage, straight up banning or kicking players that have them isn’t the way to go
Now if someone is actually causing problems with an XML build and no one can counter them then yes, kick them. But until they do leave them.
A way that dueling could be implemented is by adding a request feature like “such and such requests a duel with such and such” so that way people can decide if they want to fight an XML build or something like it
(More yappage incoming lol)
And on top of this, a build could be just a really good performing build with little to no XML editing
honestly the duel idea could prob solve all of the issues, combat could be an option on the server to be fully allowed, Duel only, or none
Yeah. Another option could be like someone can shoot you with guns cannons missiles and even ram you, but it wouldn't do any damage unless in an active accepted duel with that player(s)
Due to this i hope servers will be P2P instead of dedicated
Or optional dedicated multiplayer/hosting
what do you think? do you think the server host will just allow you to use a plane like that? youll obviously just get kicked
ohh mb i thought u meant from the discord server lol
That might not be popular, since plenty of people use xml for non-trolling purposes
add limitation on what to change and how much
We should absolutely have XML and overload, just not in MP
I think whe need server with xml and server without xml
how about this:
Each player has the option to toggle invincibility mode. Once active, the player's plane ignores all weapon-inflicted damage from other players. However, their own weapons no longer deal damage to others.
I don't think limiting any XML is a good idea. That would make most planes unusable just for having a custom landing gear or a functional cockpit. All of that stuff relies heavily on XML modding.
yes ! we need xml for our creation
Any thing that implies limitation is essentially just a detriment to what Simpleplanes wants to be, a sandbox game full of creativity, where limits should be the only thing limited
is that a recreation of stuff from that roblox game, 'naval warfare'? lollll
I remember doing kamikaz on this game lol
same here lol, i like how they actually made it do damage
1 solution i see is an option to join a public sesion and a option to just join friends
omg its naval warfare
