#Making a new Train

i recognize a sp cabforward anywhere
are you doing an interior for it
yes
once i get the chassis finished i'm going to work on the cab next
ooh this'll be fun
which railway mod is that?
Northern railway mod
I don't think I've checked that one out yet, I'll give it a look. Neat!
i think this is gonna be one of the largest functioning steam engines in SP
probably so yeah
I recall there was a Big Boy ages ago but it wasn't compatible with any of the railway mods obviously
I probably might convert this into the UP 4014 since it's the same locomotive with chopped front end
nuh uh
it has one less set of front wheels and they added a metal shroud to the cab, other than that it's the same train
after you post this one, make a bunch of teasers for an AC-9 and then just take a month off lol
free points
oh you mean the Allegheny right? wait nevermind this isn't Allegheny
the AC-9 is literally the cab-forward (AC-12) but turned around the normal way
same frame and everything I think (or minimal differences at most)
i mean yeah you right, i mean at the end of the day, there's only really one way you pull off this configuration effectively so the designs are gonna look similiar
Big boy has a bigger cab
drivers are different too
lima was standardized in their practices (much like Baldwin) but their locomotive models were different for sure
even with shays, you could have differences in how they were ordered if it was a 60 ton class B
shays my beloved
what's a Shay?
best logging locomotive ever made
The pistons are side-mounted and it drives (all) the wheels through a mechanical drivetrain and gear reductions
with the side effect that they sound like they're going about ten times faster than they actually are
oh wait those geared driver ones. yes i remember now
they are the most mechanical engineer solution possible and I love them for it
i really wanted to make one of the 20th century Dreyfus locomotives but i couldn't find prints for em, do you know if those exist still?
they also ride incredibly rough over 7mph due to the counterweights in the rods
there's a lot of cool things about them, like how logging railroads would put winches for logging (sometimes even pulling the loco up grades) and water pumps on them for fire fighting
thank you, i wanted to make one of em because they used to fly through my home town heading through the Niagara falls route
you can find a lot of content by searching "digital archive" or "digital collection" on google for more railroad stuff, or filetype:pdf
extremely specific question but would you happen to know of any pictures of s/n 2671 other than this one? I've looked for ages and have only come up with the one.
i'll see what i can find, im also friends with a lot of logging railroad nerds so i'll consult with them if they have anything too
it's one of only two OC&E/Weyerhaeuser Woods engines that I can't find a good photo of (and I'm pretty sure no photos whatsoever exist of the OC&E #1, though I do have a pretty good one of a nearly identical engine on the OR&N). 2671 was ex-Cherry Valley #3 when it was bought by Weyerhaeuser, and the Klamath Falls operation hated it so much that they sent it to Washington (where that picture was taken) to die
unfortunate news
sometimes, there's just simply locomotives that escape the camera
no worries, just thought I'd check anyway
I've channeled like 90% of my foamer braincells into the OC&E lol
