i honestly think most arena users have forgotten or didn't realize that the whole point of the platform to evaluate models and create leaderboards based on those evaluations, not to give you unlimited free ai. it was ok back in the day because arena had a lot of money but not many users, so they didn't mind that some users were using it a lot as it was only a few people. but arena has became so popular and they've added so many new features to the platform that they have to do things like this now just to lower their costs so the platform can stay around as arena's primary source of income (outside of investments) is their evaluation services, which i believe aren't making them a lot of money compared to what they are spending. it's not just arena, every ai company is doing this now because they would like to stay around and it's possible future investments may not be as big due to worries about ai's lack of profitability and a future ai bubble pop. also yupp, arena's biggest competitor, recently died and i imagine arena doesn't want to share the same fate.

i do understand that you did rely on arena a lot and you did like the free ai access, but sadly, at the end of the day, arena was never supposed to be about free and unlimited ai, it is about evaluating models and sharing leaderboards to help the ai community

note that battle mode is intended to be a "credit-free zone" where usage doesn't cost you any credits
