1. Announce changes 48-72 hours in advance
2. Be transparent - If it's costs, just say so. Vague explanations frustrate people
3. Smarter limits instead of removal:
   • Combined rate limits across Opus family (prevent rotating between versions)
   • Daily quotas (3-5 prompts) or hourly limits (1-2 prompts)
   • Keeps models available while preventing all-day abuse
4. Make A/B tests opt-in - Random removal splits the community
5. UI feedback - Show why a model is unavailable and when it might return
6. Prioritize cuts properly - Remove video gen models first. They cost more, are mostly used for low-quality YouTube Shorts, and aren't core to Arena's LLM comparison mission

• Around the communication aspect I agree that the initial mention of just 4.6 was misleading and sloppy. That's my fault and I take full responsibility for that.
• When we say "These changes are part of our efforts to ensure that we can continue offering access to AI models while keeping the platform running reliably....we intend to bring these models back in a way that’s more sustainable when possible." IMO I think this is pretty clear why a change like this was made. Regardless, I'll be sure to share with the team.
• In terms of changing up how limits work this is something we've been putting effort into this behind the scenes. I won't be able to share details about what this looks like, but changes are being explored.
• Regarding opting out of A/B testing or announcements for them. This has been brought up a few times, but the problem with that is this could make the experiment's results inaccurate. We run experiments to see how that change/feature will perform from real-use. If people could opt out of that, we wouldn't be getting an accurate understanding of what that change/feature does.
• For the UI feedback that's a good idea, and one that was recommended.

Overall, these are good recommendations and ones I'll be sharing with the team. I'll also forward this to the feedback thread we have about this removal so we have it in one place.

i hate to be the devil's advocate here but arena has always been a model evaluation platform first. giving out free opus does nothing to help their mission, responses are sent back to ai companies but that's what you get when you use official claude anyways. nothing from direct and side by side gets added to the leaderboard so the data is almost useless. they are taking away the models mainly to reduce costs so they can continue offering the evaluations. i know most users don't like it but it makes sense for arena when you consider what they are actually here for: not to give away high-end models for free, but to support the ai community and to evaluate models.

Claude Opus was better in consistency than Sonnet, while sonnet was showing some strong logical aspects and getting things done , but here we are talking about 4.1

if we go back to 3.7 , that one Sonnet was a gem stone , no doubt , but comapring Opus 4.6, sorry it doens;t hold up
