My custom instructions are too much of a sketch to share them tbh. But currently, talking about gpt5-thinking, you basically need to instruct it to use web search and consider plenty of sources. Also to use all the other tools as much as possible. That directly increases test-time compute, gives you deeper search and doesn't clash with their enforced updated instructions telling it to be concise. Also indirectly instructing it to be verbose - like saying to to not leave out any details. But don't directly tell it 'be extremely detailed' or similar - this will clash with their system work and won't work it will ignore that. I'm also still instructing it to output tl;dr first at the top, this works great so I can see what it came up with immediately and then scroll down if I need more info. And manually choosing 5-Instant for prompts that are immediately clear to be basic/easy.

Yeah that's a quirk of lmarena. This is even a bigger problem with LLMs when flooded context biases it towards style or even identity of another model. I've highlighted this repeatedly to @echo aurora but it seems lmarena team just wants this to be like that and are prepared to deal with side-effects... Interesting choice but oh well...

Good news is that image generation does not seem to break with it, but you can reference earlier messages so they do have it in context as well
