#Poor backspace and enter position on keysmash keyboard

Mobile keyboards in English generally have the backspace positioned on the right side, either upper or lower right. So the large return/enter button keeps getting accidentally pressed by me and registers as a word mistake when I’m trying to correct a spelling error in keysmash. I think the enter button is too large in the custom keyboard and the backspace should be on the right with return below it

ok, this is a tricky one 😅 We actually tested an earlier version of the keyboard where backspace was on the right, but that also generated complaints and accidental taps. Layout wasn't ideal, screenshot attached.

We want to avoid just bouncing between layouts so I think we'll need more time to collect enough data and feedback and properly evaluate what design would work best for our word games. We already have a team working on that for 2026 so I'll pass along the feedback 🙏

Another example: wordle keyboard

Maybe given the concern of frequent changes at this point it should be a user option and the default can be changed for new users or even A-B tested

-# response from inconsequential puzzle lover: some of us don't play wordle, never have, and probably never will.
Knowledgeable response: If the keyboard layout is not what you're accustomed to, your brain will be forced to learn & remember new-to-it layouts and will develop additional neuronal pathways as a result, likely giving you a lower chance of dementia in old age. Tip: exercise first, at least brisk walking for 15 minutes.
-# Every brain is different, so the reduction in dementia potential will probably vary depending on the individual.

I knew the team was onto something all this time 😌

on a more serious note, there will probably be more changes so you're not wrong
but we hope to nail it down sooner than later, and maybe have the same layout across subgames so it's easier for our brains to adjust, at least within Puzzled 🙂
