I have more than enough food in my canteen along with some upgrades and for some reason I had two survivors starve to death. Im not sure why or if this is meant to happen but it has happened to me back to back for some reason.

Your canteen can only feed twelve people max per day without any upgrades. And, apparently, the survivors haven’t learned to eat in shifts. So, if you have more survivors than twelve, then it doesn’t matter how much food you have in the pantry since there’s no room to serve them the extra food. The rest will starve.
