like at first he would be in this more semibot-esque form crawling around and watching player(s) from a distance and learning their behaviour. then get closer and walk with them kinda mimicking another member of the team sticking with everyone else. then once it decides it has enough info it will transform (see the vid above) and act according to what it saw

if the players were running and talking a lot it will run around and play soundlines (no words or phrases just stuff like laughing clicking and so on)

if they were acting aggressively and hunting the monsters down then the Abomination would be more aggressive and active as well

if they were mostly hiding and staying quiet then it will adapt this behavioral pattern too

it would also be able to drag valuables around (maybe even put them in the cart if it adopts a more passive approach from you as well as move the cart itself while following you) and of course use the items you would

it could take weapons (yes even a gun or the hammer. whatever it takes from you) activate grenades and mines and even eat (yes literally) the medkits

would be pretty cool i think

im js kinda tired of the 'oh it looks just like us but evil and violent' approach to the mimics. they could be so much more interesting and fun than that

yea i js thought that it was kinda balanced out by the fact that u would have to fully restrain urself from killing other monsters or making too much noise etc basically raising it to be the way u want it to

which would not only limit u in terms of how u can fight other dangers but also take ur focus away from them which would synergize well with the other threats especially on the later levels when u already have so much stuff to worry about

then again it would require testing and if it turned out bad/unfun etc then ofc i would just make it so it wont help the players directly

or even BETTER make it do a disservice. make it take the cart who knows where. make it try to finish an extract early. make it drop or hit valuables sometimes and so on. a mimic that actually tries to be like u but cant quite succeed is such an interesting idea with so much potential :D

I’ve really been considering making one but I have no idea how to go about it - I like to keep things pretty lore accurate when I make models but I think if I ever did I’d have to go with a very stylized design

I agree if its ms paint or any pixel software big canvases are only good for big scenes and a lot details, aka like those hype realistic portraits people do.

In the end practice and study will be your holygrail- but i also recommend using other free softwares like krita or even paint3d to experiment and find what you’re looking for. Goodluck to the og commenter

-# I'll be giving examples such as "O–––––O", think of the circle as a ball, and the dashes as deadspace. I'm trying to show frames and a ball traveling from one place to another.
so, in animation we have what's called the "pose to pose" method, which is basically just drawing a single frame of the beginning of an action, and another for the end. say something like this "O–––O"
once I've drawn the poses in the final and starting two frames, I'll begin doing the "in-betweens", the frames in-between the first and last poses, making it like this "O–O–O", then this "OOO–O" then the fully filled product: "OOOOO"
the most important thing to keep in mind while doing this though, is to use "slow-in, slow-out", basically instead of the ball moving consistently like this: "O–O–O–O", you make the motion ease in and out as it moves, pushing the frames closer together at the beginning and end, while spreading them out in the middle, as so: "OO–O––O––O–OO".
a neat trick that I've learned, is that if you do a small in-between, just slightly moving toward the next pose, and do another small ease out into the final frame, then you get a snappy, smooth motion, shown like this: "OO–––––OO"

I'm not fantastic at explaining things, so hopefully that helped a bit lol, if you have any questions just DM me ;]

This is a great explanation but lacks the uses for such movement. More frames means a slower movement but spaced out frames makes things fast looking and snappy. A great example of this frame rate change is the movie puss and boots with the giant fight scene at the start of the movie.

For lilastra animation example… she should use less frames to make a the iris expand smoother. This is a good example of how to put into action what you explained. The eye squint works well in the animation because its a slower movement, i think lilastra did that really well.

Im an animation student hehehe, just wanted to share my thoughts! You gave a very great job explaining frames through text! . My advice to lilastra would be to keep practicing the principles of animation (which are free on YouTube and as a pdf online) and apply what mayplink said about frames. :3 goodluck! @low tulip

This a callout…i want to try and do a huge server art collab! One background and multiple drawings of different artist on one canvas.(You can google server art collabs and should find examples)

It will have a date but the date isn't final, just depends on interest and number of participants but it also would be awesome to release the final version on feb 26 for the game's release anniversary. for example if its a overwhelming number i would do it differently & change the date, but if its a manageable number i would be asking artist for transparent versions of their oc and put it all together. thats why im asking for a vote to see how many people are interested in joining

Nomad was a former member of the Human Group, along with his at-the-time partner, Garret. But when he was out looking for supplies one day, he got stuck in one of the semibot traps trying to escape Trudge, and was subsequently attacked. He survived by playing dead and hoping Trudge would leave, but he lost an arm and a leg, a lot of blood, and was entirely alone with no way to call for help. Which is when the semiscouts found him. They took him to Taxman, who gave him his prosthetics in exchange for his work, and now he works for Taxman trying to pay off his debts for his prosthetics. Though he's not much of a fan of Taxman, he cares a lot about the semiscouts, and would protect them with his life. (Trigger warning on the last picture for blood and Nomad's missing limbs)
