The only update that gave users an early look at anything was the museum update but since then they have only been using the update to fix bugs and other issues.

The beta branch stays up but it is no different than the public build until the beta channels re open here.

To put it simply...

Testers test super early stuff and help refine stuff to get it all playable for the update without any major bugs or issues.
Beta helps with refining it just a little more after an update Think balancing and some smaller fixes

you can also manually download and install older drivers you may want but that's a tad more complex
