quick note, TF2C is a pretty good community project if you don't want to deal with predatory monetization inside TF2, toxic players/lack of moderation, broken matchmaking, etc

TF2C has a "verified" servers system where you can see servers that have been analyzed by a human and you can expect the server to have a decent moderation, not randomly crash, no bots, etc

but you can still play unverified servers just fine, not that big of a difference from my experience

the only really big difference is that unverified servers tend to not have a stable connection all the time, specially during the night
