There was a save file glitch in vanilla that already got fixed in beta afaik, it involved resetting whichever the first savefile to 0 you had by joining any lobby, had it happen a few times myself too.
If you keep playing on vanilla I'd recommend making a dummy save file as your first save file and then have your main save be on a different save.
