Question... How limited is the range of the gun? It seems when I shoot monsters from a distance, I don't seem to land shots... Also shot a huntsman twice (should be 80 dmg each shot right?) and he didn't die..?

The wiki suggests that the gun should stun the huntsman... But doesn't seem to? He insta killed me each time I shot him.

You can lure Huntsman on to stairs to make him fall and take damage to deal with him. That's what I do when I'm thinking properly

You can even make him get hurt on the smallest staircases like on the outside rooms in Headman Manor
