it just means that someone that's dead won't have to wait until extraction to participate.

It's not a guarantee to be honest, to answer the end of EA question they originally planned for 6 months after launch to release the full game however that plan changed to a full year because of how popular the game got and I think that might be pushed further because of how the early success set back development of the first major update if I recall correctly.
The game also some obstacles, R.E.P.O. is missing controller support and semiwork hasn't developed a game for consoles before either.

I do feel like a console port will come in the future though, the game exploded in popularity and it's a missed opportunity if it stays a Steam exclusive

I seen your message about "Mario Kart" with 6 player splitscreen. But, for a game like that, it works, as it's simple and bright and vibrant.. where as R.E.P.O is dark, and gloomy.. with things hiding in the shadows, especially "Roberta" when she blends herself into the environment.

I think OLED displays have the brightness and contrast covered, and when you have something like a 48 4K inch display having four player splitscreen is effectively giving each player a 24 inch 1080p display

Yeah, I do think 4 Player "SplitScreen" can deffinatily work, as it's the normal amount developers normally use, unless it's a bright and colorful game like "MarioKart" for example.. "Fortnite" at one point released "SplitScreen" multiplayer, and for as complex as that game is.. there's enough space to see everything, even at a distance, though.. anymore.. massive disadvantage. The only place "6 player" splitscreen works is like racing games, and that's really it. Most developers often stick with 4, and for R.E.P.O I agree it can work, but 4 would be the best to cap it

Technically, you can never lose access, if you create your own photon ID then connect the lobby server your hositng to that, and make sure everyone has the same, app ID as you, so you all connect to the same custom server

R.E.P.O uses an application for their servers called "Photon" however they use a paid server subscription, to account for all the players constantly online, however.. a mod recently released called "PhotonRedirector" and "CustomPhotonServer" which allows you to create your own custom server, and tie the ID to it, this way you map all the network to this ID via steam network as the branch.

You can create your own "Photon ID" for free, which allows you to have a cap of 20 CCU online at the same time, this referes to how many players can be active on the server at once. So if you create your own ID and map it too R.E.P.O not only do you have your own "Private Server" for you and your friends, but if you're using mods, then your causing no server traffic or lag time, for people in your server region.. because you and your friends, are loading packets and packets of information to the server. Ever wondered why sometimes playing multiplayer, leaves the lobby in the loading screen for such a long time, this is because of "Server Traffic" and general packet uploading to the server.

So if the servers ever go down, which I can't see happening really.. As long as you create your own Photon ID, map it too R.E.P.O you can still play online with your friends, in a private game.. no problem.

It's very useful when it comes to setting up events and big lobbies, because as long as you stay under 20 players you're all good, ( I would advise sticking to 15 at most though ) and the best part, you're not costing developers more money, to payoff how much server traffic you're creating with extra players, and the cherry on the cake is, your framerate is smoother, and people connected from different regions like US, have no input delay or lag, atleast all my friends I've played with haven't had any problems at all, and it's because it's our own server, no one else is using it, apart from us, and it's great fun.

I think the main problem, as to why people get kicked from lobbies randomly. is because of massive server traffic and the server, having too much ruinning at once, especially if so many players are playing with mods on your region, as this means for every player and mod. It uploadeds this in packet infromation to the server, as it's new content for a game, that dosen't have it baked in. So everytime you load up the game or load a level, it has to relaod all that data to the server again.. as it's not already part of the game to begin with. Now it probably makes sense to you, why sometimes games, don't run well or lag.. and it's because of server traffic in your region. I don't know if anyone's realised this, but I've noticed specficially servers being less functional than before in mostly "EU" and "US" and it's because everyone is using mods now, and uploading new data constantly to the server with each time, they boot the game, load a level so on so forth.. Little mods are fine, but people that use exstensive ones, are causing the servers to be the way they are.. the whole stabillity was never the developers faults, it was ours the whole time. So if you're using mods please use less of them, that are small and bite size, like cosemtics and little tiny changes, but for anything massivly changed or added like levels, valuables, gameplay elements, new monsters. Remap R.E.P.O to your own custom App ID, as why should new players have to suffer, because we're tanking up the servers.. with our exstensive mod packs, that add all this new content, that claim they're improving R.E.P.O when actually your killing it.. by clogging the servers, and causing amenst server traffic for everyone in your server region, unless you use a "Custom Photon App ID" and ever since me and my friends realised this, we made the decision to keep the modpack project we're working on private, as people that don't know about what's happening will abuse it, by accident, whithout realising it..

If you just have a little friend group, that wants good framerate and no input delay, trust me the switch is crazy, just be aware, not to overdo it, as the more active you continue to be..the more it's likely to break and charge you.

So just don't abuse it, create a server, and use it every now and again.. don't use it all the time.. use it for sepcial occassions like events ect. or for when you're playing modded, as this stops you from causing traffic for players, that are playing normally with no mods.

absoloutly, I love the "SemiWork" devs my favourite indie developers by far, and I will do everything I can, to prevent them from having to pay extra cost, as they did ask in a QnA nicely to please limit how much server traffic is caused via mods.. At the time, I didn't understand what this mean't, then after spending time in the moding server, and talking with some modders.. it clicked and I realised what they mean't by "Server Traffic" mods cause, and it's because mods are new packets of information, and for each player using them, that's uploaded to the server, which causes server lag and traffic for everyone else on your region. So a custom photon App ID resolves this issue, and benfits players, who just want to play normally, and give them a smoother experience.

For everything "SemiWork" are doing for "R.E.P.O" and the community.. I make sure I never cause any issues on my part, that's why I'm so against people the "MorePlayers" Mod, as it's 6 for a genuine a cost reason, but if you use a "Photon App ID" and map it to R.E.P.O this fixes the issue entirely and you can go to 15 players.

I do the same now, I'll be honest and hold my hands up I didn't realiae what I was doing at first, but now it all makes sense, and clicked to me, so now I use a custom Photon app ID for mods that are exstensive, for clinet side it's fine, but host-sided, and Server-Sided, need to use a photon ID.

That's why for this massive communtiy event I'm working towards, I've made sure all traffic is diverted to each "Event Holders" own "Photon Server" and depending on numbers for it, players will be split into 10 to 15 per lobby, but all lobby's will be redirected to each hosts own ID, so no traffic caused on the orginal servers, no matter how exstensive it might be.. everything is redirected to our own private servers

We love you SemiWork, and I will make sure to spread the word, as much as I can, about the traffic..

Any mod that's "Server-Sided" is a massive hit. If you're using any server sided mods I'd recommend this approch.

Photon is hybrid. Yeah the host is still the server but Photon sits in the middle and relays everything. So when Semiwork told people not to make giant multiplayer mods it wasn’t because “mods bad” it was because the Photon relay itself starts choking. Doesn’t matter if you’re hosting locally some of that traffic always gets shoved through their system.

My hot take is this though.

Disagree or not, but this is rare to see and put on users. Below is my take on this.

In my opinion it’s not on players to think about that at all. Users just wanna load up a mod and play. They shouldn’t need to sit there worrying about Photon packet counts. That’s on us modders to not spam the network.

We can keep it sane by not blasting constant updates, batching stuff, and only syncing what actually matters. It’s not about limiting fun it’s about not flooding Photon’s pipeline so every lobby doesn’t lag to death.

And honestly if the Semi was really worried about traffic they could’ve just used Steam networking for everything like most local hosted games do. Photon was their choice. So turning around and asking players to watch what mods they install makes no sense to me.

It Does make sense for them to ask, but from a logic perspective,it doesn't make sense to the consumer.

It's up to us to make proper mods but because of how the game works it cant be controlled really. Some authors can make TERRIBLE calls and ruin the network via Photon.

People can be new with coding and harm Photon. But that is the issue but also a none issue at the same time for the Users who download just to download and yry and have fun. If Photon can't handle it or dev can't handle the traffic. Switch to something either that has authority 100% which will break mods and limit them OR use purely local via Steam networking.

I don't really know, how to respond to all this, but yeah that's a good point actually.. I was just trying to look out for SemiWork is all, now I feel like I've kind of spread mis information.. I'vr just noticed a massive link with the servers recently, and it never ust to be like this, and when I spoke to you about packets of information being uploaded to the pipeline of photon, that's when it clicked to me..

So I was just trying to do my part, and give people the choice if they want it, as it's a simple little quixk fix anyways, and dosen't take away from much, but like you said, at the end of the day consumers.. shouldn't have to worry about photon packets and such, that's on modders to optimize and sync what's needed.. so you've made a valid point.

I'm in support of both sides but at the end of the day. Users want to play the game. Nothing blocks mods and to them, they can't see a difference when playing unless they get so much desync they get yeeted. Haha.

From what I can remmeber it's mostly cosmetics, levels, host sided changes, and the lobby host has a sperate modpack that adds 3 mods to the public version to give them moderation abillity.
