Do you want to be hated by your fellow man and alien?
Do you want to be that guy and make people be your friend?
Do you want to spread and DOMINATE as the one true Antag of monolith?

I have the guide for you my friend.

** EARLY INFECTION **
So you get into a round, and go for the Chimera role after 50 hours spent on Monolith.

In the early stages, this is what you gotta know.

*** YOU ARE NOT AS ROBUST AS YOU THINK ***
you may look like a scary flesh monster, but if you jump in front of a Camelot firing line packing incin ammo, you're dead. Infection contained. YOU FAILED.
If someone alerts the sector that there is chimera about before you can actually infect them, the mech death squads come out and hunt you down like a dog, you're dead. Infection contained. YOU FAILED.

The PRIMARY OBJECTIVE is to infect as many things as possible, people or not. Things that are not people, are far easier, and raise less issues than things that are people, so focus on those.
Avoid fights and getting spotted. Be SNEAKY, hide, don't pick fights unless you 100% will win.

Start by raiding scrap piles to get some medical bounty bodies. You can infect them and turn them into NPC's. (Space animals cannot though). Store them in a crate and infect them later.

Next is attaining money. Like everyone in monolith, you need it. But your shopping list is very small. Get to any and every ChefVend you can possibly find to buy as many Animal cubes as you can get. That means Tinnia's Rest, The Pit, Bahama Mama's, Camelot, and service ships (Bratan, McChicken, etc).

What you do for animals. Pour some water on one, then infect it. Then pour water on two, then help your new buddy infect the new animals, then open all of them and do it. A Fire extinguisher is VERY good for this.

Set them up somewhere were people can't see them, until the entire horde is on them. Bam, your first new friend.

From here is the snowball, which I'll cover in the next part of this thread.

** EARLY INFECTION 2 **
I'm not gonna sugarcoat it.
IF you want to get a truly rampaging chimera game going, you have but one option as to where to start.

Camelot.

"But what about trade mall?" I hear you ask in attent curiosity with a tinge of confusion.
Because Camelot is better in virtually all the ways that count.

Does it have a ChefVend? Cam: Yes, TM: No.

Does it have a lot of dark hidey holes that are hard to quarter off? Cam: Yes, TM: No.

Does it have good defences, that will aid you in infecting the station pretty much permanently? Cam: Yes, TM: No.

Does it have permanent residents of whom can be your first NEW FWESH FWENS? Cam: Yes, TM: No. typically.

These are the major things that will make or break an outbreak.

TM, people come and try to leave as quickly as possible. Unless you can get onboard their ship, spawn a bunch of creeps to infect and/or overpower them, you're not getting shit. Assuming the ship owner doesn't smoke you, if anyone runs away, as they likely will, the entire sector will know your dumb ass is there, naked and alone, and they will come to stomp you.

"But what about going after solo ships?" you may ask in defiance of the truth.
Because, assuming you don't fuck up or get noticed before you get to them, you'll AT MOST convert 1-2 people without more attention.
If you're caught however, by one guy looking at his shuttle console or mass scanner, It's over, ADS is coming, your ass is glass.
Only exception is if you land the chimera TSF gunship, then just shoot at the little blue dots until they stop moving (lol), infect then dip. Ultimately though, you'll want to infect one of the big stations, and the better of the two is Camelot.

But once you get to Camelot, get some money, infect some minions and start jumping people.
Now, infecting minions spreads the flesh floor, Which slows everything not chimera in it to a crawl. Use this to entrap and surround people. Take them.
Get a few friends, and Camelot is part of the Hive.

**THE SNOWBALL **
SO now you have some friends and Camelot.

Now leave.
Get a handheld mass scanner (THIS WILL SAVE YOU, DO NOT FORGET IT), get a backpack to put animal cubes in, dump and convert some cubes near medbay (Is it spawncamping if it's not you camping?), and leave.
Leave as soon as possible.

To spread, you need as many strongholds of chimera as possible.

Start with any and all of the smaller stations if you didn't get them already, or go back to buy the rest of the animal cubes that you couldn't get earlier.

NOW you hit trade mall
Start at cargo, infect it, then take over as many ships as you and the hive can manage. Hit it hard and fast. Coordinate with your hive and prepare them.

*** USE EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO YOUR ADVANTAGE ***
If you lose anybody, you can bandage/patch/ointment them and then revive them with a defib.

What you want now is ships. You want as many ships as you can get your hands on.
Now you get to trade mall. Take over ANY and EVERY ship you see there that you can get access.

Take PDA's to try and unlock ships that are locked.

If ones are too fucked to fly, take their shuttle consoles and put them on ships that can, but need the console.

Move shuttle consoles to the back of ships for better ramming position.

If you board a ship that has a fight you can't win, and they have an AME, turn off the AME, boost the injection rate to like 50-100, then hide on another part of the ship. When they turn it on, BOOM.

Virtually every ship is a weapon, and you use it. You see a ship, throw everything you have at it. Try to work across multiple ships to take them out then expand the hive. If you can't board a ship, try ramming it then board it.

The best you can get are combat ships. These will win the chimera the round effectively. Show up, blast people, infect, move on. Works even better if you get a handheld crew monitor from a MED ship.

At this point you will have only a few heights to go to basically take over the round.

** THE TERROR PATROL **
NOW that you have all the major and minor unsafe stations under your control, you have a couple options.

Like the mongols after conquering a city, be sure to periodically return to Camelot and Trade mall to ravage people trying to pick up the pieces of your raids. Best to kill/capture their ships first, stranding them on station, then picking them off.
Dump some creatures on there for good measure.

MECHS are gonna be your biggest problem. Shoot them with your ship cannons if possible, (Should be a little larger grey square) stay back if not. DO NOT RISK RAMMING THEM.

As you're patrolling, target other smaller ships doing random shit and try to take them over. Board if you can, nuke then board if you can't, ram and board if you can't can't. If you get stuck call for help from the hive.

Just try to keep good tabs on whose who, you can friendly fire other chimeras, particularly if they're not very responsive.

**DELIMBED **
Getting into this much ship combat, odds are high that you will end up a nugget, without legs or arms. Not to fear.

Remember those med bounties from earlier?
Have one of your chimera friends surgically remove their brain, and replace it with yours. You have to do this quickly or you'll both die, so do surgery on both, remove the brains simultaneously, then swap. BAM, good as new.
(You can also replace limbs with cybernetics from a mechfab or stolen from an IPC, but it takes wayyy longer, not worth unless you're desperate).

** THE FINAL BOSS **

TO TRULY PROVE YOU ARE THE PRETTIEST BIOPLAGUE TO EVER SPREAD, YOU HAVE BUT TWO FINAL TARGETS.

FIND:
TSF HALCYON, and PDV HELIOS.
(maybe PDV Jupiter as well, very funny to take it over and fly it for the chimera)
(Do abide by all rules in engagement)

These are HIGHLY defended targets, that you will want the strength of your hive to take out. Prepare grenades, prepare ships, and a lot of monkey cubes.

Take these out, the sector is yours. Congrats.

** Funny counter strats I want to see used more**

It'll be fire.
Litterally.

1. Welding fuel, Firebombs and Pipebombs.
These are stupid simple to make with stuff you can find all around colossus central, not the most reliable, but they have straight up won me fights against chimera.

Throw beakers of welding fuel and light them. It clears out entire sections of flesh mass FAST. Can do it with firebombs, thrown welders, or even cigarettes. This will also heat up the atmos in the area and deal heat damage to anyone without proper protection, be warned.

Pipe bombs, while unreliable, will easily cripple a chimera to nothing. If you land some on one, you can outright delimb them and make them a pretty easy kill.
To get you probably need either a chemvend/full dispenser though.
Make ash by burning paper, add carbon to make charcoal, mix with sulfur and potassium. This gives you stacks of gunpowder to make the bombs.

If you're the horror movie protag on an invasion of camelot these are very good strats for getting the happy ending.

#

**2. Chem and Explosive Grenades **
Explosive grenades will be useful for dealing with them in the same way pipe bombs are. Often, chimera will repeatedly peak corners to spike you, then hide back, as that's their best ranged move down corridors. It's the perfect opportunity to nade them. If you limb them, they're fucked.

Chem nades are what I'm really here for and one in particular.
Phlogiston.
Did you know that phlogiston, on being mixed, produces plasma gas?
Now you do.
Now fit two blue space beakers with 600u Plasma in one, 600u Sulfuric Acid in the other and 300u of Phosphorus in each. Detonate in a hallway with a lit welder and bam, instant plasma-tritium fire.
Just know, this will Ash anyone in the area it hits. Any doors opened to that area will INSTANTLY flood because of the high pressure, and will also have a high likelihood of ashing someone. But if you want to clear Camelot fast...

Popping a plasma can works too, but more dangerous

The other option is to utilize fluorosurficant to spread cure around in a radius, but I've found the foam on Monolith to be FRUSTRATINGLY little. Maybe throw a bluespace beaker at it.

Making animal cube chimeras sounds good on paper but its kinda a noob trap imo

#

They are stupidly easy to kill en masse and they grant the enemy the same organs as a fleshbeast

# mystic ferry Making animal cube chimeras sounds good on paper but its kinda a noob trap imo

Depends on how you use them.

They create a distraction for you, and let's you initiate first without risk to yourself.
If you got a good mass, you can split someone's attention between dealing with them versus dealing with you. It's also hard to call out in broadband while you're actively being attacked (for people who can't type fast enough).
All of which is exactly what you need to start.

If you used them to entrap people like in a corridor with flesh mass, you'll very quickly capture people. Which is your ultimate goal.

They also hold areas against people who aren't equipped to deal with it.
On Camelot, I've had several people be converted right out of cryo because of the animal cube chimera. (Or like one guy who welded off cryo and sat for like 30 minutes before we came back and sweeped them up)

Later they fall off as not being as useful. If you're doing in Camelot, it's a tough luck for them to get some of said organs without a lot of trouble

Doing the animals past that point is more a shock tactic, but loses utility quick and you should be focusing on ships.

this sounds cool and all, but is there anything you can do if you by chance do get called out

cause lets be real its gonna happen, not everyone is slow typers

specfically before taking over camelot i mean cause your gonan be known if you take over camelot

# sleek halo this sounds cool and all, but is there anything you can do if you by chance do g...

Once it's out, it's out. Bound to happen eventually.

It's about what you get for becoming known.

So it depends on how organized and equipped people are. If it's earlier in a shift, people are less armed, less organized, more timid, better to move fast and enact your strategies.

If it's later in the shift, it's better to hide, to play it sneaky. To fakeout an infection and wait out a more opportune moment to strike.
You can use the medical bounties for this pretty effectively.
Single people out.

Maints are little off tunnels are your friends, because you can see people (infared) where they can't see you. If people are swarming and have an organized defence, it might be better to just hide until things cool down a bit, then resurge when people think it was dealt with.

people will metagame chimera spawn anyways

if you get called out just jump from ship to ship and dont use one for too long because they are gonna target it to glass

nice guide, but if you truly want to be a menace these are my tips or what you will want to do from the start

  • spawn, rush over to TM or any station where there is a ship docked, have your IFF on when doing this, having it off will only make the guys there ask you things in shortband if anything and thy'll become unsettled when there is no response, having it on is simply better to avoid being asked questions

  • agressively rush a person, get their mass scanner, if no mass scanner, repeat untill you get one, try to find money along with it too, basically you'll need a jetpack, money, and meds to even consider combat on armed targets

  • Now starts the fun part, pull up to an active ship (pro tip, you can know which ships are 100% active by FTL'ing consstantly and those you see in hyper-space are) stop somewhere 1000 meters from there, and open your inventory, and start throwing 1 credit at a time, this is 4 times faster than your space walk, and unike using a jetpack it will not make you appear on map, you can cover the 1000 meters in about a minute at max, board them and kill, they wont be able to put much of a fight as they are not really prepared for a chimera, just play nice, calm and slow, (another protip, throwing letoferol spikes at running away people sometimes makes them bleed leto or spikes themselves produce it, ending up in making one tile below them biomass and slowing them down massively) kill them, loot them before converting, move on

  • you need e-shield and cap sabre or an equilevant after a while, keep using the ships youu board and conquer to ram other ships, convert the owners of the ships you rammed and move on, in general just avoid space combat, engaging with a guy for 20 minutes usually brings nothing good, they'll call far reinforcements, try to escape, worst case scenario bail out in space and start making distance with money flinging

#
  • see if they stop at the wreckage to check, at that point if they are not wary they will asume you died and let their guard down, if you have cap sabre and e-shield rush them in space, do not bother with spikes, they do nothing, simply killing them fast is way better, use syringe injections to turn them, faster than clawing, if you see them alert others in the ship, or you lose them in space and feel like they are gonna, quickly get on the ship, (you can do this from the start too and the guy outside boarding your old ship will come in anyways to save his friends, if not, its fine, take the ship and leave) rush the guy onboard quickly, opposite to what op claims, you kind of are a monster, really, that is if you got a cap sabre and a e-shield, you are good against lasers, and you can be good against incendiary too if you got robust movement, i killed a guy in a straight tm hallway with no biomass with a burner, simply with movement, its possible, a rare situation but if they use melee use a mix of letoferol throwing and melee of yourself, you wont lose in a melee fight.

  • from there on you can take on anything and everything, posessing an emp emitter or emp bombs will only add to your strength, just be aggressive, rush people, dodge bullets via movement and always do surprise attacks with the no radar visibility movement jutsu technique and you are golden, you can even take on mechs with incend rouds if you got one or more chimeras with you and if the mech pilot isnt particularly good at the game and just relying on their incendiary round giving them auto win, even solo is possible with emp, worst case scenario, try to get out of their frame with jetpack, then quickly start flinging money, bam, you are 200 meters away from where they last saw you with no radar signature and you are rapidly moving away, get back to their ship and ambush their remaining crew or them when they get in and leave mech for maximum sweat

#

overall, you just need to get money, meds, jetpack, mass scanner, cap saber or something similar, e-shield and you can win almosst all of your fights if you take advantage of no radar space movement, everyone else will be using jetpacks or suit sigs so you can easily avoid or find them if you need to, if you come across a incendiary guy just get in there and robust him, same with lasers, same with anything else, if you cant get them in one go retreat, heal, come back, you are the hunter and they are the prey due to your x-ray vision, so you know what they are doing but they dont know what you are doing, so they'll often waste time talking in chat or looking around as you are healing

#

additional tips i can give to fellow brethren i guess are

  • spray bottles spread 3 tiles of biomass and then they expand, no liquid though

  • spilling out your blood from syringe makes one tile of biomass with liquid (yes, it works on bluespace beakers, syringe and etc)

  • you can inject rats and bugs and critters of similar and make them chimera, otherwise you cant claw to make them chimera, they just die

  • syringe gun, self explanatory

  • you can use shock batons, or any of the tider martial arts

  • you can hit smaller chimera with slash or pierce weapons, make them bleed, and then drag them around so they bleed all over the station, even better with a piece of glass no damage at alll but many bleeding

  • do not say location names in hivemind, always consider it compromised, tell your other chimera
    "you see that? Closest thing"
"we get on the closest station"
"get on the ship, one we first came with/one you left"
"mil ship, med ship, civ ship, exp ship, simply call attackers as attackers and ads which others listening to hivemind can see in map as upset fellas, civs wouldnt get what it means"
"take on the controls and bring us to where you mean"
if you tell your ship name, leave or switch ships or space flee but just know that they know now and you need out of that ship asap

  • search for micro or highest cell for your mass scanner, if not carry extra batteries, keep in mind an emp kamikaze charge to enemy will emp your batteries too so do not make a "i escape to space if lose" plan if you are going to use emp in space fight

So far, using these strategies worked extremely well and i average around 10-15 conversion at minimum every game, with half of them if not majority being armed targets with often high tech guns or are ready for chimera with things such as mechs, fully armed ships or incend guns, even surviving for hours in my last run and winning against even flails and gygaxes, several asakim and many more, i was unstoppable

# sleek halo What about advanced mag boots

not many have it, and if they do, they are probably slowed down by their armor or gun still, or their hesitation, you see where everyone is at all times but they dont so they will hesitate if you go around corners or dive into maints or places like that, if they blindly rush with incend just use spray bottle leto to biomass 3 tiles infront or behind you, or spill liquid to slow them down, that is if you are not already bleeding on your way out, you can just see whoever has what through walls always with your vision, so you can choose your fights, only thing you cant see is mechs, but you can hear that
