#Borers Should Not Get Puppets

Cortical borers should not get to freely puppet soulless entities around indefinitely. Their control should lapse in the exact same timespan.

Reasons for this are twofold:

  1. There's a pattern of borers just trying to hop into clone bodies and amass clone armies. It's not brain worm behavior, it's fail RP.

  2. a. This has gone from a pattern to an expectation. Players who are friendly to borers will often actively seek to clone themselves to make hosts for the children, rather than engage with other players for it.

  3. This kills the whole point of borer RP. You're a worm trying to get into a host so you can distribute eggs across the sector and grow the hive. You're not looking for a puppet to pilot 24/7. You're supposed to try to find a balance with your host either through fear or through love, and kill them only if necessary to protect yourself from a host you cannot coexist with.

I see a lot of criticism of borer players for NRP murderbone behavior and ultimately I think a lot of it stems from this. That said, I am not a long-time player of Monolith—I'm a relatively new player that has had some really mixed experiences playing borer. It could be that there's some elements I'm missing here.

I mean hivemind doing hivemind things isnt FRP

I think we just have different definitions of "hivemind things".

To be fair I also think there are other problems with borer gameplay that need addressing. The fact that most of the server will wear face protection for the entire shift to avoid borers is also kinda FRP, and leads me to feel that anti-borer protection should not be free to wear all the time. There should be penalties, or else the masks should not be 100% effective protection.

But that is a separate suggestion. One thing at a time.

Why the fuck are people willingly infecting themselves with literal brain parasites

That said most people don't willingly do it, they just don't notice the worm that crept into the ship and is hiding nearby to pounce in their heads while they're on the piloting console, or locked in making chems

I don't think we need to shut down emergent strategies based off intentional design in favor of forcing borers to have to play the "normal borer way"

its also kind of way to replenish lost crew lost on expeds, as opposed to "hey its me again i died but now im alive come pick me up"

Borers should be an actual parasite then instead of a metafriend role
