#Re-Work Edison Power Plant (job roles, equipment, and other functionality suggestions)
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
doesnt make much sense in this setting
also job bloat bad most of the co roles could be removed since nobody plays them
just pick spacer
out of safezone jobs
but this is a shipfork
frontier has that already if you want station but not station rp
the main thing is jobs roles are not needed for special pois, any faction or group of players should be able to capture and use them without being reliant on something like a plant tech being there
this is already an issue with other jobs blocking functionality behind them, i.e director of care and paying medical crew, these lead roles are rarely filled
nobody uses edison short of selling gas because theres no other game mechanics where it can be used
the underlying issue is lack of functionality and not lack of roles
the worker roles arent needed if the poi is capturable by factions and important enough for there to be a constant presence there
tsf has an underutilized engineer role that could fill this gap, asr could have a similar counterpart
or not at all
or hire spacers to do it
more rp that way
hiring forces a minimum of interaction instead of someone picking round start station role and dicking around in an isolated part of space for the whole round
hire someone who flies a windreign under horizon energy tag same thing
yes thats a functionality problem
theres no reason for edison to be there right now
ur suggesting job roles instead of functionality
well thats the title of this thread
thats better but bloat co-like job roles are a bad idea
maybe Edison could have a special tech tree that allows them to manufacture more efficient generators or something? Probably end up basically being their own minor faction i suppose then, but their main goal could just be generating as much power a shift as possible to sell
Selling 'energy' is a fairly common scifi trope, as long as you have enough energy you can do lots of shit, like one of the only reasons we dont convert sea water into fresh water on a mass scale is because its not cost effective for us to do so yet -though it could be if people werent fuckin scared of nuclear power-
Edison could be given a machine like the Sevastapol tech disk printer
not sure what it should produce though
Edison should be a material producing
Factory
And should be where rare materials are produced and made like plastinium TC and more rare materials to be added in the future
And of course should be incredibly fortified maybe even more so than the flagship because this is a incredibly valuable asset to whatever company owns it
And honestly I think people should be running the place
Dedicated roles maybe
Telecrystals do exactly what their name implies
Teleport shit
It is hardly a relic of the past.
And in my head Cannon the vending machine utilizes
Telecrystals
To pull from abandoned warehouses
But I'm going to be real telecrystals
Absolutely need more use
In printing items
Not exactly sure what but we need it
telecrystals seem like just 'Programmed' bluespace crystals
No actually
Surprisingly I know a bit of lore about this
Blue space crystals handle hammer space (definition allowing more space to be created)
Telecrystals allow objects people and other things to be instantly transported across space
One manipulates it
One traverses it
Although one of these crystals are incredibly unstable
Cough cough telecrystals
their purposes may differ, but like...we only ever mine bluespace crystals, and we also use bluespace to warp places?
never mined a telecrystal before
modifying a hammerspace crystal sounds like something that'd make them unstable...if they ever were before
Yeah it is modifying a blue space Crystal into a teleCrystal
And well that's lore for you
Tele crystals
Are like Blue space crystals but on crack
And better at teleporting
What I assume blue space crystals do is create space in front of you then delete it
Telecrystals
Just straight up teleport you there
And I am heading into headcanon
But I think uplinks and vends have special devices in them that imprint coordinates onto a telecrystal
To transport items people essentially whatever you want
But isn't as renewable as blue space crystals which can be used multiple times
For faster than light speed
Storage
And what not
Remove edison.
Make a gas deposit depot for atmos ships to sell shit.
Doesnt need to be a big ass station.
in a shiptest there really is no purpose for a station that hoards a giant energy making machine. You cant sell the energy like in goob.
better yet make gases useful for manufacturing shit factions would want
Agreeable
Sythalloy should not be TSF exclusive
And should be connected with atmospherics
Just like plastinium TC and whatever else is made from atmospherics
I mean the ASR need sythalloy for their best armor
Is that not reason enough?
make plastit not a drag to make and put the needed shit on a POI for it to be fought over
if factions dont feel like doing it on an atmos ship then they can utilize the POI that has the stuff in place and just needs someone to flick a switch
that could be their job, make it so that they generate Telecrystals, for civilian interests, and up the drop rate & cost of the contra stuff
then you have something you can just give to civilians as a reward as a faction head that doesn't involve you giving essentially contraband out
telecrystals should be its own POI
still considered illegal, tsf would be upset
thats just money though...
are you suggesting making the illegal substance legal
i mean money that can only be used in like a proprietary vendor
a legal contravend of sorts
yeah but then if you hand out actual telecrystals to folk they could use it in the legit contravends, i dunno if that would be considered 'balanced'
if you dont want it eating TC then sprite a new currency and a machine that converts TC into it
i mean it's basically the same as like coles cash or some shit
we should make them do that
it would incentivize keeping hard cash
that would be a good reason, i've used cash in a vendo merely as a novelty like twice
should pay tsf tbh
Something that valuable should require some setup tbh
Well yeah, just about every engine job takes a bit of time and knowledge to set up. It's be more complicated than say just setting up a few ame rigs or something
We could make the singularity and Tesla engines again for one. Those require supervision especially since we don't have weldbots and stuff like that
Sorry I meant to reply to user's "they could just flick a couple switches" statement
Just an example is all
