general review for our currently-implemented ships, listings for any changes that need to be made, or any removals that need to be made.

#

review of ZOB claymore:

  • weakspot is supposed to be rear armor, but this thing has fucking 6 gyros for some reason, so it means nothing since you can just outturn anyone going for the rear weakspot (it should probably only have 2 gyros)
  • why does this need 2 bananium generators?
  • airlocks inbetween docking and hallways should be external
  • actual living space on the interior is pretty cramped, i think it was definitely just put there to not be called a killbrick
  • the thrusters on the exterior look hastily slapped on, and the thruster stacking for retro-thrusters is fucking stupid
  • placement of some stuff on the inside makes no sense (why is the reclaimer right next to the altar?)
  • why does this need to be exped capable.
#

review of parabellum

  • i think the thruster spam is pretty bad on this one, it just looks like they painted the exterior with it, and 90% of them look slapped on (See front end)
  • giving people a ez way to buy 6 EMP guns (2 of which being EMP missiles) is likely a bad idea
  • why is holopad not in cockpit?
#

arkansaw review:

  • the interior is stupidly bright and noisy imo, this definitely needs to be tuned down
  • tiles could use more variation (the spam of diamond tiles is pretty bad if you ask me)
  • thruster stacking at read and on sides, once again they barely look integrated to the vessel at all
  • seems like a "i wanna be able to do all the meta stuff without setup ship) w/ the full xenoarch setup + robotics/mecha setup + small medbay and fucking morgue?? + mining guns

flashpoint review:

  • interior tiling is very flat, the rooms are just 90% one tile, and its usually not a very nice to look at tile (this guy overuses mining tiles way too much!)
  • i dont like the doodle text in the cockpit
  • ai core is a noobtrap, intellicard doesnt work
  • decaling is lazy, and just bad in some parts (the fullwarns under every fucking catwalk is super noisy)
  • distro is lazy asf (literally just like 6 air cans hooked up to pipes)
  • overuse of piss sodium lighting, bridge lighting is too bright imo
  • This is the worst case of thruster spam I've ever seen.
  • its definitely too armored for a civ ship if you ask me
  • general aesthetic is pretty bad imo, very soulless with not much thought put into looks (why does the cockpit have fucking comfy chairs?)

Most of the stuff about flashpoint applies to vulture too, so treat that as both a flashpoint and vulture review.

#

@worldly drum adding you to this thread since ur reviewing ships too ig

worldly drum
#

ye

#

that's a mil ship

#

flashpoint anyways

#

its not particularly the best in combat against a decent foe

#

but its really tanky

acoustic vigil
#

i think the flashpoints guns are fine but the inner 1 or 2 layers of plastitanium can be rwalls

worldly drum
#

prob yea

acoustic vigil
#

my main problem with avtomata's ships though is definitely how low-quality the interior design is

#

and the stupid usage of thruster stacking

worldly drum
#

yea

#

like I get the point before was to build large thrusters out on the sides but most of the time thruster stacking is done pretty badly

#

Maybe post this to public todo lists

#

Contribs might be able to do some of this

acoustic vigil
#

yeah then contribs think ur being a dick to them and saying their design sucks (i am saying their design sucks because it does)

noble crown
#

that sucks for them

acoustic vigil
#

as far as i know with this playerbase they hate it when you tell them directly why their shit is bad

noble crown
#

True, but people are also asking for feedback and looking to improve their shit

#

At least, the good contribs

acoustic vigil
noble crown
#

Well, if they don’t take it well, ignore them and let the few good contribs at it

#

If it gets so bad we can always just remove the thread

worldly drum
#

contribs willing to take feedback

#

may not be the smartest ones

#

but they at least listen to what you say

#

I know Rubeebee is very open to feedback for one

#

and they made Claymore/Arkansaw/Parabellum

I do think that staff transparency is pretty important
