#Powering up weapons

You now have to power up your weapons console, when they are not powered up you can't fire your guns or even aim them, but when powered up it tells other ships your weapons are armed, forcefully enables your IFF(but It does not show up in scans), and disables your ships ability to jump. Enabling and disabling the guns would take a couple seconds so you can't just start shooting instantly, maybe the time is based on the weapons server you have. Kinda like in sci-fi films when someone on the bridge calls out they are powering up their weapons to fire. The idea is that you're diverting power from your FTL drive and IFF in order to fire your guns.

This feature is intended to:

  1. Make IFF weaker so you can't hide in combat
  2. Makes it harder to flee from combat you started fighting in
  3. Add an RP aspect

For IFF it allows stuff like full IFF hiding for more ships because they can't hide and fight at the same time. Also helps newer players identify IFF less ships when they get ready for a fight instead of when the mass driver is in their head.

You can't flee from combat as easily if you started firing back due to the disabling of FTL. You have to disable your guns then start the jump all while being fired at but still gives you the chance to flee before you power up your guns. If you want to fight you have to go all in or fly away manually while turning off your guns, no half assing a fight with FTL running and IFF hiding

RP wise it lets ships tell if they are about to be attacked and lets stuff like standoffs in ships feel cooler. Plus just more sci-fi

forcefully enabling iff is so ass

#

there is no rp aspect if you literally show you are kos

#

no need for words now

#

just shoot

#

i shouldnt have to be hunted by 50 instantly tsf cause i powered my guns up to threaten a civ

#

and besides while the guns are powering it is a big sign that "OKAY I GOTTA RUN AWAY AND FTL NOW WHILE THEY CANT DO SHIT!!!"

I got a better idea. How about you have to power up FTL instead so that obeying the rules of escalation wouldn't cause you to fail by default?

Id rather have it so ship weapons can be detected on map

the main problem with this is that forcing IFF on due to weapon activation is stupid and would make factions unplayable

Would it just be smarter that when firing your weapons your ship IFF is revealed for 10 or so seconds?

at that point the only way to do ship combat is making a ram

#

and splitting people in half with 5 billion tonnes of uranium

Making iff only reveal within a limited distance would be cool

Ok sure, that seems to be people's main issue with the idea. I'll change the description but assume the iff that is revealed does not pop up on scans. It would help with newer players identify ships in combat.

Idk what y'all mean about it making rp worse. I get the point about jumping away… but you can also just get closer to prevent them from doing that if you rob them. There is nothing about it that would make you not need to talk, escalation is still a thing it just lets them know your threat is more real

Yeah trying to get iff to not reveal on the map for everyone to see is a todolist thing

#

Im still not sure if iff should enable on powering up weapons tho

#

Turning iff should just mark you as an unknown, powering up weapons should mark you as an unknown with powered up weapons

#

But only locally ofc
