#Heat damage from air

When you walk into a room that is several hundreds of degrees you get burnt. But if you have a hardsuit/modsuit and the helmet is lowered you don’t get burned.

I suggest we change this to increase realism.

  1. That heat damage is dealt to the head if the helmet is lowered when in a room with high enough temperature.

  2. That your character is unable to breathe without internals if the room temp is too high.

Second part is Couse of you have a suit and helmet is up. You can still breathe the air even if the air around you is several hounded of degrees. And let me tell you, there is a progressive limit of how hot air a living thing can breathe.

This is a quote from a smart lad: ”oughta port EE seperation for it then.”

Heat damage without suit helmet

This is realistic actually

#

Because your head hot suit inside body cold inside suit head body cold so not really that hot

I still can’t read that. I have irl experience in being in flaming hot environments. So I am not convinced by your made up version of what realistic is. 1. You can’t breathe air that is 200 degrees. A basic example is inside a sauna at 95c. Now imagine that at 300c. 1. You would get burned without protection for you face even if you had a body suit. 2. You can’t breathe air that hot. Burning your face with a suit with the helmet lowered should be at the same temp as your character starts getting burn damage without a suit.

• ”Burns to respiratory tissues are possible at >100°C (212°F) — think of inhaling steam from boiling water.”

” • Exposed heads would overheat or burn quickly in high-temperature environments,
• And blood cooling can’t compensate for the rapid heat load from 100–200°C environments”

Sadly we lack the ss13 mechanic of air dealing damage vbased on temperature

#

Honestly might be an idea for wizden’s discord if I’m being honest

Isnt this a thing already?

realistically the hot air entering your lungs would do wonders to your respiratory system and there would be no end to the agony that is your internals becoming a sort of flaming bull

#

unless the hardsuits have a way of making the air entering cool instantly which isnt an issue tbh

#

i mean... they already technically (and mechanically) prevent your bodies internal temps from changing upon entering them

Basically what u want is damaged to be relegated to the head when a hardsuit isnt fully on

#

Same with modsuits?

#

Modsuits CANT work like that since it has to be sealed

To prove my point I tested this more. At around 480 kpa I started getting pressure discomfort. As soon as I toggled to hardsuit helmet on that disappeared. But the main point is that the character is able to stand in air that is 1100c with a hardsuit, even without the helmet, and not even any internals(gasmask and airtank)

#

The pic with burn damage. Is when the character was naked. He started taking minor burn damage at 85c. I suggest that the same damage should start to apply to the head even if a character has a hardsuit, but the helmet is lowered, that the character can breathe in 1100c without internals is another issue…..

probably has something related to woundmed code to actually function this way

#

either that or a complicated workaround

#

But

#

Not for the reason you may think

#

the head shouldnt be the only organ that receives damage because if your helmet is on the rest of your body will also inevitably heat

#

I also feel like this would be a easy fix

shrewd summit
# copper pike I disagree

Do you mean that without the helmet up the rest of the suit is not sealed either so the hot air flows into the whole suit?

copper pike
#

Outside of that

#

When your head heats up

#

rest of your body would also inevitably heat up

#

plus I feel like it would be easier to code it so the whole body heats up

#

Just gotta take a look at the hardsuit code first though

#

IRL the earths atmosphere protects you from a lot of things

#

in SS14

#

the atmosphere is sealed inside a steel box

#

So heat is a lot more lethal here

shrewd summit
copper pike
#

it comes with pressure

copper pike
#

Because modsuits already cant protect you from heat if you arent wearing helmet and the modsuit isnt activated
