even the new mouthfuls only get used in levels that emphasize how similar they are to previous mouthfuls

Yeaah I would have liked this. a couple extra stage 4 evolutions would have been really cool and im a little sad we didn't get a new power boost to mess around with

overall I did enjoy the dlc but I don't entirely blame people for feeling underwhelmed. like you mentioned it's very rehashy and while I think they did really well with what i assume were limited resources, i can def see why people were expecting more. For me anyway it doesn't help that the final boss itself is a bit rehashy even if it's got new stuff as well. So it's like yeah. The big upside to all of this is that they're almost certainly putting all their main resources into a separate new title so that's exciting

Oh one more thing. The music is exceptional - one of the qualities I think might even exceed that of the base game

I went in expecting basically some fun EX levels and a hopefully cool final boss, and that's exactly what I got? It's not a full game and never was going to be?

I guess to me, it's not the assets that really matter that much, but what they do with them. And the level designs were very much original even if they used existing assets and props

especially since Galactal fills a very unsatisfying place in the roster where its basically a midboss but without the things that make midbosses fun

like they go out of their way to just make it a glorified door

it doesn't really contribute to any rewards besides giving starry coins that other enemies drop anyway

doomers were similar but at least they were part of completing the super ability/another dimension section plus you get two energy spheres from it

and the remaining enemies just being buffed into damage sponges isn't fun either

i'm not saying i didn't enjoy the DLC overall but i would have a difficult time saying it elevates the game without the 60 fps

like, the 60 FPS is doing a lot of the carrying work here

Going to be real though I wish there was a little more stuff that accounted for the "already beat the game before" players, because this stuff was very much built for NEW first time players of the entire game

Hell I would've liked some more abitrary means of "replaying" the game, like some sort of Bandana Dee mode or even some bonus challenges for the base game levels

As someone replaying the base game alongside it, it allow completely new level design that emphasizes on verticality.

Anyone who expected more out of a 20 dollar dlc that gave you 12 levels are themselves to blame

but i think new mouthful modes are very unique and bring very different mechanics from the main ones

they feel more distinct because they feel less like variations on previously existing copy abilities and offer different traversal options
