Some feel impossible, some I'm just abysmal at, and some just feels like a slog to grind.

it's fun in its own right but its daunting bcs theres hardly skill, or rather the skill is playing your absolute best with the cards you're dealt of the ability wheel, vs a more consistent reliable skill of racing on an actual track LOL

Even when I do half-decently, I don't get more than a few pixels of progress (which is instantly lost on the next round)

It's not a simple problem because of how each combo can perform on different maps. There's also the players you're going up against, sometimes its quieter, sometimes all the rainbow ranks come out of the woodworks and go nuts.

Basically, no.
And once again, progress is meaningless because you gain literally pixels, and when you lose its basically like you never decided to try at all

It feels tedious and I'm really not motivated enough to persist through it
But I suffer from FOMO, so I keep coming back despite the fact that I don't find it fun anymore.

The second I hit Indigo everything went to crap.

This is not exactly what your situation is but I'll just tell you what I went through anyways

So I was at blue rank when I joined the KAR server, and obviously I joined a paddock and got my teeth kicked in metaphorically. So I knew then my combo then wouldn't really work at higher level and I couldn't really find ways to improve with it after that. I kinda just then tested different combos I knew about over time before finding something that could keep up with them.

You can take a break from trying to ladder on ranked for now if your mentality is being affected too much by it.
Experimenting on quick match works because it shares the same queue as ranked.

Try to focus on a specific combo that's brought you the most amount of success and practice with it. If you need specialized advice the KAR discord server has a lot of players that can give advice, they're very good people.

There’s 2 easy ways

1: Open paddock, have 1 other user join. Either of you can open the vs Gigantes stadium. Keep trying until the other player gets Gigantes, and keep trying until you can beat them in certain time. Gigantes player will not move, and they just sit

2: Set CPU to level 1, and only against single CPU. Gigantes’s health depends on amount of player is in the stadium, so level 1 and single CPU = easy.

If you’re struggling, I suggest using riders that can use special in midair, and use vampire or shadow Star so you can reach the top weak spot

Two huge pillars, make sure to play with 16 cpu for max pillar spawn, use Battle chariot, Hydra, Leo, or any of the machine with decent defense and very high offense.
Best is to utilize items or ability, like bomb, fire, needle, sword for example, and fire crackers, laser wipe, etc
Also if your special is fully charged, try and until you destroy the first pillar, and use it in second pillar
It’s best to check with pillar has most amount of CPU, so you can steal the final hit and quickly run over to the other pillar and try to destroy it before other CPU reaches

It’s probably good to memorize where they also spawn since they have set spawn area

Kracko is def easy one, you don’t really have to try and go after Kracko the whole time, and when you start seeing Kracko smoke up (which means they’re under 40% health) you start hitting hard with special or items or ability in the weak spot (eye)

More player = more chest, it’s best to memorize where the chest and keys are, and the game shows direction of the nearest chest so try and go after that
I suggest using flight machine for this since you can steal the key and run off in the sky to the nearest chest (shadow, winged, warp, vampire for example)

FL was the "back to basics for 3D's sake" game and DB and RtDX, while better than the previous spinoffs, wasnt totally strong (DMK missed out on a costume in DB and Adeleine got the worst mask in RtDX.. focused mask... oh my god.)

swerve stars gameplay is perhaps the most polar opposite to my gameplay enjoyment it can get

having to come to a dead stop to control a vehicle in a racing game that has impeccably smooth, responsive, and rewarding control to it kils me inside
