And I think DT not only has good tutorials, but PJ streamlining/reducing them gives it a less intentional feel and contributes to the nothing soup feel of the game

The heavier railroading of DT gives it a stronger framework to build character moments and jokes

And the backtracking is the freedom of exploration people crave rather than filler/padding

Anyways I also think DT has the best M&L soundtrack and it's not remotely close

by M&L standards it's only having 1 less battle theme than average

it doesn't have a unique theme for Zokket which sucks but it does have a midboss theme which compensates for the usual gimmick battle theme they would usually have in a game like this

all things considered it still has the same amount of battle themes as Bowser's Inside Story

also bis dx went ahead and introduced unique battle themes for dark star and dark fawful and that is technically the most recent game in the series besides brothership

so it was clearly something they recognized could be improved on compared to the original

also actually no it doesn't really have the same amount of battle themes as bis (ignoring final boss since brothership's does technically have more themes for the final sequence than the rest of the game)

brothership has normal enemy, midboss, and boss

#

bis has bros normal enemy, bowser normal enemy, boss, and giant boss

I think it's just a bit sad to compare when you see how Brothership has about 5-ish battle themes (don't remember how many the last few bosses have), while the very first Paper Mario had like 12-13 depending on how you count

Then if you compare it to the TTYD remake that dropped the same year it just feels pitiful.
