Forums! Some new, some replacing existing channels.

Hi! We've added more forums which we will be moving all active threads to immediately, and a few channels will be archived and replaced by a forum thread <t:1665936000:R>. The below plan includes how things will work after these channels are archived.

Gaming and Entertainment Forums

• #entertainment-eden will be replaced by #1009165548258590782, with a pinned general thread to serve as a more direct replacement for the previous text channel.
• #gaming-galaxy will remain open, but its threads will be recreated in #1009165414774874142, making them easier to discover and follow.
• All new forums have links to the older threads, either in the OP of a replacement thread, or in a dedicated archive thread.

Pokémon Channel Archival

• The #pokemon-ghostly-greavard channel will be archived, and recreated as a thread within #1009165414774874142.

Spoiler and leak changes:

• Spoilers for recently released content (games and other media) are no longer kept next to leaks and rumors. Instead spoiler threads will be properly tagged and created in the relevant gaming or entertainment forum. Until you join a thread, no spoilers will be visible.
• #leaks-and-rumors will be replaced by #1009165798239121448, housing leaks, rumors, and datamining findings. A pinned general thread will be created for discussions on anything that doesn't have/need its own dedicated thread within that forum.
• General spoiler threads will also exist in #1009165414774874142 and #1009165548258590782.

Thread Creation

• Same as the older channels, the ability to make a thread is held by moderation staff.
• This prevents abuse like spoilers in thread titles or entirely off topic posts.
• For #1009165414774874142 and #1009165548258590782, you can ask for a thread here in #1009133424575000697.
• Specific to leaks, the #1009165798239121448 forum has its own dedicated request thread to keep things contained.

I also want to stress that these aren't the final versions of these forums. Tags will definitely need more work, but beyond that, we really would appreciate any feedback we can get, big or small.

As far as actually using the threads, no, there's not much difference.

But discovering threads within a normal text channel is pretty awful. They're locked behind a small button in the corner of the screen, and you have to swipe to find it on mobile. And not every channel will have threads, making it even less likely that people will look for a thread.

Normal threads will also always show the latest message when you're browsing through the list, making them unsuitable to hold spoiler content

As far as notifications go, that won't impact you
If you don't care for a thread, don't join it
If you don't want "1 new thread" to show on the forum, mute the forum itself.

These new forums are controlled by mods, so there also won't be a large amount of threads created

Like, does it have to be any form of spoiler, or just for anything that happened very recently?

it's pretty much a replacement to how #leaks-and-rumors used to be for general spoilers
which I didn't use myself, so I don't know exactly how much it was used for that

but my understanding is that if something is recent enough that everything about it should be considered a spoiler, it probably shouldn't go into a non-spoiler chat
you can either request a thread created, or use the spoiler thread if it's something that doesn't need a thread

outside of the three channels that will be turned into threads in a week, the only other channel we're planning to replace with a forum is #whispys-writers-club

we could move more into threads, but that would be condensing things a bit too much

I think #entertainment-eden is just as useful as #gaming-galaxy , i think it will be better if it stays

#1009165548258590782 will have a pinned thread with the same purpose as the existing #entertainment-eden

#gaming-galaxy not becoming a pinned thread is mostly an arbitrary decision

with some justifications of it being one of our oldest channels, and having a broader appeal than the other channels that are being turned into threads

entertaiment eden gets about as much traffic as #gaming-galaxy tho, even if it's relatively more recent

I think it might not work out as well to not have an immediately available channel for people to post on random tv/movie/anime stuff on, while forums still require somebody to join a particular channel before posting, which the majority don't do

for a general tv channel, i think it's better to leave it more accesible rather than having it share room with the other specific forum channels

i also think the general channel would get buried if piled alongside the many topics, i'd assume it would potentially move down too much if left alone for a few days and not leave it accesible for most to see, kinda how the new spoiler channel is at

That does have a bit of an issue when #1009165548258590782 will have a general non-spoiler thread, and a general spoiler thread

But the idea there is that the pinned thread will also include a mention/jumplink to the spoiler thread

and search I guess

though if it's been buried so far down that search becomes useful
either we're keeping up on spoiler threads that people want and the general spoiler thread is irrelevant
or something else would need to be done to address that

#entertainment-eden is being deleted on the spot, #galactic-general is also being deleted and being replaced with a 6 hour slowmode forum

#entertainment-eden gets to live. Keeps it more consistent with #gaming-galaxy, and keeping the spoiler thread pinned rather than floating is also good

thanks for the appeal! glad the channel got to live for accesibility (and with spoilers being more secretive they'll make more sense as the pinned for the forums)

That channel being for leaks only might actually be good to be kept more secretive as the pinned in forums

So regular people passing by don't tap into a leak by accident

yeah, that was one of the main reasons behind leaving leaks as their own forum at the bottom of the server

rather than getting their own threads within the gaming/entertainment forums

Yup, and we know a lot of people usually tap or click on the spoilered images/bars anyway by instinct, so this is best to prevent that kind of spoilers in a more public channel

(also i am realizing the forums are a godsend to not need to make a lot of roles for people to want to access a spoiler/leaks channel)

but the main downside to threads, both in normal channels and forums, is search

still can't search within a specific thread

can only search the whole containing channel

which isn't great for forums that also contain spoiler threads

they have been making a lot of good changes to forums since they released
like locked threads don't completely disappear anymore
