High school is the time for an explosion of youth.
How so?
Well, it’s that time of life where kids get all the crazy out of their systems before they are forced to grow up into soulless gears of corporate society.
I thought I’d finally get to make a splash once I got to high school.
But as I walk through the gates of my new high school, Josai High, I can tell it’s gonna be an uphill battle.
Everyone’s already divided themselves into groups – there are some delinquents, model students, popular girls, geeks, and athletes. All of them talking, laughing, chatting like they’ve known each other all their lives.
And then there’s me, with glasses thick as a window, a stiff haircut that tried and failed to be trendy, and an outfit that’s probably best described as so last century.
If you asked anyone in my school about Takagi Rantaro, they’d probably say, “Who?”
Even back in elementary and junior high, I wasn’t exactly popular – no major roles in clubs, no starring roles in school plays, no spots on the school team. If there ever was some hot-blooded manga protagonist in my class, I would have just been Mob Character with Glasses #3.
Honestly, I’ve gotten used to it. I’m not marked for greatness, and that’s nothing to mope over.

The scrambled words swam through his memories, warped insults that stabbed deeper and deeper into his heart. Featureless silhouettes, entangled together, leered at him with eyes curved into narrow upward-facing crescent moons.
The young man stirred from unconsciousness. As attempts at motion brought shots of pain through his system, a whimper spilled from his lips, and his youthful features distorted in an agonized wince.
He found himself in a soft, downy bed, tucked in up to his chest under a thick blanket that smelled of linen cleaner and air freshener.
“Oh, good, you’re finally awake.”
He turned to the source of the voice – a wall-mounted monitor playing a recorded file.
“You were quite injured when I found you.” The voice was deep yet muffled. “Had it not been for the best care Japan can offer, you would have been irreversibly damaged.”
“I’m sure you have plenty of questions.” The voice continued. “I will give you more information as needed. And as for my name… You may call me Daimon.”
The young man got out of bed. He found a clean, almost sparkling bathroom and washed his face in the sink. He looked in the mirror, and a blonde boy with light blue eyes stared back at him. Some scars lined his face, though their stitches were barely discernible.
He continued playing the video recorded by the figure calling themselves… Daimon.
“Your name is Hiroki.” Daimon spoke. “Your surname has been redacted for your own safety.”
Hiroki sighed. The name wasn’t ringing any bells.
“You are currently in a private residence, one I have purchased under a false surname that you yourself will also assume – Kusaka.” Daimon remarked. “You might be in a bit of a haze, since the doctors operating on you used quite a bit of anesthesia to save your life.”``` Hiroki returned to the bedroom and found a varnished wooden wardrobe. He opened it to find rows of matching outfits hanging from the cabinet’s arms.
“This will be your new outfit.”
Hiroki gave it a once-over – a blazer, a pair of slacks, and a simple monotone tie.
“Starting tomorrow, you will be enrolled in Takaiwa Academy, the school for Japan’s 1%.” Daimon’s voice seemed to tremble ever so slightly. “Your mission is to study hard and become the best student you can. You will write a report to me at the end of every school week. Are your instructions clear?”
Hiroki wasn’t sure how to respond, but after a few minutes of silence, the recording continued.

So. I tried writing again.
He didn't recall how he had ended up confined here, captured by men he'd never met before. Nor did he recall why his right eye had been sealed away under a strip of painted paper.
But he did recall quite a few other things after that, with painful clarity - the trials.
There had been other children in the cell with him before.
They had all been strapped to batteries and circuits, tied to lightning rods, exposed to the elements - trained to control and channel electricity. He had been the only survivor.
Next came a strange sort of training, with him as the only student. His captors had given him a hastily compiled, shoddily crafted book that demonstrated a swordsmanship technique that allowed its user to create afterimages and arcs of electricity with every swing.
The notes were scrambled, as though they had been written in the heat of the moment. The illustrations were crude and rough, scrawled with coal.
In spite of these difficulties, he still managed to comprehend the technique.
He could also perform it, of course, but it drained him severely.
It took only two or three repetitions for him to be completely exhausted.
He heard the guards' complaints one night, their shadows flickering in the candlelight.
"Why can't we get rid of this brat?"

okay @golden summit lemme explain my future book before I forget.
So the story follows Felix Fletcher, an 18 year old, basically depressed american teenager in his final year of high school.
He has lost contact with all of his friends, he isn't close to any family member. All he really has going for him is school, his part time job at the local book store, and the stuff he reads and the small bits of merch he buys.
He acts like he's fine though. Hell he thinks he's fine. Because the problem is that he struggles with his emotions. Like, not in the sense that he's emotional. Kind of the opposite. He feels incredibly empty.
He struggles to really identify his emotions and the emotions of others, basically as if he suffers from Alexithymia (but not literally that). Like it's not impossible for him to laugh, just kind of troubled.
Anyway, instead of spending more paragraphs explaining Felix's mind, since I don't wanna make a wall. I'll get to the plot now.
So, the point is that it's a superhero setting. (Which is why I swore I told you about it, but maybe I only mentioned small details in passing?). Superheroes became common knowledge somewhere in the early 2000s, with the story being like 2019-2020 or something like that. There's a few heroes operating in the town. (Like 4.5, the .5 is a basically retired old gay jewish man, who is also the owner of the book store / felix's boss.)
Anyway so the further tl;dr is that the city's strongest hero, Pleione, a wrestling themed magical girl is fighting her archnemesis, who ends up shooting something at her. Felix ends up taking the blow that was meant for Pleione, and ends up infected with a demonic parasite (that he later on names Nox)
Nox is supposed to feed on negative emotions and turn the infected host into a monster, but since Felix is kinda empty he can't do that. Decides Felix is interesting and gives him powers, wanting to see the kid fail one day. Felix ends up becoming a superhero himself now.
So bigger tl;dr. MC is a depressed teen who has a shadow demon spider that gives him superpowers, allowing him to transform
He ends up teaming up with Pleione, since she blames herself on it. She is also actually one of his classmates, Seina Ward, a half-Japanese girl.
So she's our secondary protag

Link summoning is just like any other summoning method. The stronger the monster you wish to summon, the more monsters you must give up to bring it out. In this case, the monster I will bring out is among my aces as strength goes. You'll see in just a moment.

It’s already been a few months since it was announced back in 2025, but Super Sentai is going on hiatus for the next ten years or so.
Yes, indeed, in the year 2025 or 2026, the tokusatsu franchise that’s been running on Japanese TV for the last 50 or so years went off the air.
I feel like I’ll miss Super Sentai. Even though my first introduction to these shows was Power Rangers, their adaptations for American audiences, I can still understand the feeling of fans about the ‘end’ of Super Sentai.
But I’m not a “true fan”, so to speak. I’ve seen more Power Rangers shows than I have Super Sentai. The only shows I’ve finished from the latter are Kyuuranger and KingOhger. But ShishiRed Lucky’s undying optimism, despite his repetitive catchphrase, brought me some hope in trying times. The show’s opening, LUCKYSTAR, is one of my go-to jams. KingOhger introduced a colorful, quirky cast of rulers, and the show had enough plot twists to keep me on the edge of my seat. KuwagataOhger Gira, being the only sane guy, in a way, was quite funny – but I also liked how the characters had plenty of depth and nuanced contradictions to them.
I sometimes fantasize about it – becoming a costumed hero, working with others to save humanity and the Earth, occasionally piloting a sick combining mecha. We all need a hero like this, I think.
But there are no mystical power sources to access, no technology to transform, no giant robots to pilot and combine.
So what do we have? We have each other, we have teamwork. We can work together to better humanity.

So... I had an idea:
"Honegai shimasu! KAmen RiDER DAVER!" - Daver Driver henshin announcement
(pun on onegaishimasu, hone (bone), and gai (armor))
Transforms the user's skeleton into armor. The transformation sequence involves the skin breaking as bones burst from it.
Kamen Rider Daver's main form is white, with blue and red lines running down all over the body. The skull's eye sockets glow a somewhat heroic blue.
The transformation sequence is not as painful as it looks. The Daver Driver duplicates the user's bones to become their armor and sedates them during the transformation process. Unfortunately, putting on the Driver itself is the painful part - the belt portion features spikes that stab directly into the user's body (like the suit of Penance/Speedball)
Kamen Rider Daver can opt to manually 'pull' a bone to become the Daver Scalper, which can serve as a blunt or sharp weapon.
Damage to Daver's armor only increases its lethality, as the bone armor becomes ragged and sharp.
Notes
