dragline is a decent upgrade to the maximum build exactly, but the deck has a pretty bad weakness into wide boards like the ones gaia makes
gantry feels very obsolete now that we have secret order
and the yggdrago support is very underwhelming, deck has to go out of its way to fusion summon and brusselin is arguably worse than sol and attrashoot, at least those are 2500 ATK
idk if it even replaces mani since the recycling is pretty important

i feel like you might be dramatically overvaluing the add, i see it as basically flavor text
what it does is give you a big consistency boost past the early game with a reliable 1-card-combo (and makes trap hole effectively dead, which is good because trap hole is much more relevant after negate attack's limit)
while gantry is just additional copies of buildragon for more consistency, tho it occasionally increases the ceiling by letting you summon the full 3 guys
wide boards isn't a weakness of the deck, it's a strength, wyrm easily fields 2-3 large bodies and can beat over any number of opposing bodies, while also being difficult to get damage over if you're attacking into it "fairly" (as gaia typically does, if they choose to spend conqueror on a pop at least)
the deck's weakness is tall boards like ancient gear golem or cyber end dragon (particularly when the opponent plays around buildream), and decks that can easily push damage through 3 monsters like dragons can
(the cyberse stuff is straight junk - brusselun is just so painfully inconsistent, dl now gets to know the pain of doing your big combo all to end on a brusselun after the opponent finally committed to 3 face-up monsters only for it to mill a trap. and wyrm, tho definitely better, is still not stronger than gaia overall and has a rough matchup into miragiastar)

I will say, i did test the wyrm excavator build a lot more than i did the buildream one, and i did feel that a pretty big weakness the deck has was being rushed down before getting to the maximum
Trying to deckbuild fusion wyrms kinda gave me a headache trying to fit everything into 30 and the ceiling felt like worse psychics/dragons, so i probably gave the variant less credit than i should

i think there's a strong argument to play 2/3/2, because you do often want to have a boss specifically in hand to clear zones even when dragline is available (true in both versions, since the dream builder one really wants space to summon at least 1 vanilla, while double extraction is reliant on tarasque to find the field spell and doesn't want her stuck in attack position)
the question is whether you can avoid bricking in the early game before you get to better curate your deck that way (double extraction in particular reduces the chance of drawing drake crush only after the first turn) - with picklon and secret order it's possible, double extraction also gets essel as a 1-card-starter on turn 1 (going second)
