its solid but its removal magnet
and i dont love it being a legendary means its kind of all in compared to moonshadow
hm
wonder what i'd say is the best card in the game
single best
i can argue an answer for 1 card in each card type but...
hmmmm
Silence commander player
I just beat a green black elf turbo deck by making my super shredder 14/14
The guy was scrambling
How
Tbf some people still call me a kiddy for playing modern
so hard because so many cards are so good contextually
what ? 😭
yer
Still better than a premodern player, word me @sleek ferry
like underworld breach you could argue but then there are so many other cards
like LED or lotus or bazaar etc
[[underworld breach]]
Ok commander player
Are you a modern kiddy too?
yes
guess i am
been playing modern for nearly 7 years
but ig im a modern kiddy
I started with modern too
I play mishra's bauble, crack it, play it again because it costs 0, crack it, do this however many times I can, play brain freeze and mill myself, now I can cast anything I milled, then I can brain freeze my opp for their library or grapeshot them
simplifying it massively
Among these only lotus fits, led is worse than lotus with almost the same combos and bazaar does nothing outside very specific decks
[[mishras bauble]]
true actually but I was just trying to think of "broken" cards
but you're right those are just worse than lotus
Oh I see
You just abuse 0 cost cards
Spam them
And then use storm
Ok well that makes sense
well it's just one way of using it
I was thinking of it in the context of some black red mill deck
I remember using bauble + breach in the murktide mirror to get me a necro for 9
And then later using breach to bolt someone 6 times
the card is just so fucking insane
sol ring may actually be the goat hmm
Stand-alone card, sol ring is better
In context with a curated list of other busted af cards, lotus is better
Wtf is Canadian highlander

But only 1 ofs
1-0, clean 2-0 to start
not to be confused with auslander
[[abigale, poet laureate]] and [[inkling mascot]] are goated
I also think the uncommon black mystical archives in the set are too good
Getting free feed the swarm + bitter triumph off that slot is crazy
Never heard of Auslander
the repeatable prepare creatures seem goated for a limited environment in general
Mate of mine really enjoyed Lluwen while playing Witherbloom
tam cooked me r3
her prepare condition is stupid lmao
I have a more positive opinion on it than most of the ppl in this chat (I think it’s playable) but it’s apparently the #1 most expensive presale from sos
lol
wait really? I'm surprised
That’s what I mean lol
it has a demonic tutor on it but I'd figure some other mythic would beat it out for presale
I think it’ll probably end up seeing fringe play in standard in some reanimator deck or smth
But like more expensive than the blue emeritus
oh lol thats just commander players
Both of which, at least imo, are worse than the white one
commander players will gas up garbage
Ok but is the card not even worse in commander
Where u have actual factual tutors all legal
yes but commander players fear garbage like coalition victory
and hype up shit from a butt
Crazy
it is crazy
Anyways I do think it’ll be playable to some extent
had an actual "argument" with someone ik that plays commander about why it's not the best card ever made
[[$leyline tyrant]]
$2.97 • €1.13 • 0.07 TIX
0.91 TIX
$2.90 • €1.65
$9.52 • €4.14
$2.97 • €1.51 • 0.02 TIX
$11.11 • €4.00
4 mana 5/4 is a pretty nice body + the repeatability of the tutor is v unique to it
But I don’t think it’s actually like super good and idt there’s a deck that really wants to spam tutors like that lol
its their illusion of power
yeah the card is fine but it's also a removal magnet so you're spending however much to tutor and you'll probs only get it once or twice if you're lucky
aristocrats is popular
If it was a 4/5 and/or had a nice keyword
and they gas up their cards a lot
I feel like aristocrats is a strategy that could use repeated tutors at least
Would be litty
[[$anointed procession]]
$82.66 • €49.42
$58.69 • €36.38
$77.93 • €38.65
$58.21 • €31.13 • 0.02 TIX
if it didn't prepare in end step lol
it's a strategy that needs multiple pieces in casual
0 reason for this card to be expensive
its garbage
yet commander players will act like this breaks a table in half
or doubling season too
this card got crept by the phyrexian 4/4 and elspeth
The unfort part is that you have to sit a whole turn and hope they don’t remove it
aristocrat players will play worse for more mana
yeah but you know how irresponsible commander players can be with removal
yea but commander players jack up the price more
unreal formats drive price, it is what it is
Shrug
like misty said procession is still way too expensive
I was also under the assumption that mono black wasn’t a terribly popular color
sephiroth might've boosted mono b aristocrats hard
final fantasy was enormous after all
yea
again, commander players will look at u like its an insane bomb and the cards a 3/3 for 7 that draws 3
are you ready for abzan
Abzan is extremely peak mtg I hate to say
The only colors cooler than abzan are atraxa colors
(Witch maw question mark)
When’s wotc gonna print 4c lands
2 quick 2-0’s to start, I got to lock in for this last round
plus we got specific support in TDM 😎
I was talking w someone the other day about how many more land cycles u can make/powercreep and they were like what if 3c shocks but you pay 4 instead
5 color land that u pay 1 to get colored mana
enters untapped first 3 turns

why dont they print 1c lands that enter tapped but have some extreme upside
island, enters tapped, surveils like 3 or something
mirror the artifact lands and make enchantment lands
They do
do any of them see play
well ig some do
idk print more of those
i like mdfcs and stuff like channel
fetches for snow lands
there u go
dragonstorm had mistrise village and cori mountain
the black one is playable too but doesn't have a home
and avatar had agna quela, ba sing se, abandoned temple and koh
all 4 are playable, mostly agna and ba sing se atm due to meta decks using it
i will note that they all have a condition to enter untapped
yeah
i was saying to thugs they could make untapped 1c lands with some upsides
to give some form of extra strength for 1c decks
the avatar lands are basically that
they all enter untapped if you control a basic
it's too bad the red one is so fucking ass
they could probably explore that more
would they ever put a street wraith effect on a land
well maybe in one of the ub sets
i like that rampage land from the spiderman set
next magic set will have allied color slow lands
u discard a card and then u get to play it that turn?
oh its called mayhem
[[exclusive nightclub]]
make a set of 1c lands that follow some color mechanics to place them from gy or something
Unironically, I think a cycle of mayhem lands would go hard
Round 3 g1 I was on the draw, drew a hand of all lands
Okay that’s fine, mull to 6
Drew a hand of all spells
Had to stack shuffle before mulling to 5
My 5 hand is very playable, kept a threat and 2 removal spells
Get him down to 1
He removed all my threats and reestablishes enough of a board to win from 1 as I draw into 4 straight lands
That’s a @knotty ferry ass story right there
G2, I go, I stomp him in 4 turns
G3, I keep a threat heavy hand vs his removal heavy hand
How
You stacked???
They do
This also exists technically [[urzas saga]]
Enchantment Land — Urza's Saga
(As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter. Sacrifice after III.)
I — This Saga gains "
: Add
."
II — This Saga gains "
,
: Create a 0/0 colorless Construct artifact creature token with 'This token gets +1/+1 for each artifact you control.'"
III — Search your library for an artifact card with mana cost
or
, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle.
But the main draw of artifact lands is stuff like affinity which as far as I know literally doesn’t exist for enchantments
Mystic sanctuary got banned
theres also some duskmourn one i found
they could defo do more saga lands tho
They don’t for a reason
Very hard cards to balance
Urzas is one of the best lands in the entire game
When your land drop is being dedicated to a card that’ll kill itself in a limited time frame and is more vulnerable to removal you have to overcompensate or else it’ll be basically unplayable
i had an idea for a 6 land cycle
mountain enters tapped, deals 2 damage to anyone
forest enters tapped, summons a 1/1 thingy with trample
island enters tapped, surveil/scry 3 (i have no idea how good a land milling 3 would be)
plains exile all gys? idfk this one is hard
wastes draw a card maybe? idk if a wastes that taps itself is enough downside to print that
probably not on the wastes
at prerelease, so far 1-1 but the win is a bye
did not open great, all my bombs were outside of my colors
i mean yeah but u guys wanted new things
do u know how they have the dual face cards
[fire ice]
[[fire ice]]
have they ever tried this with lands
one side island one side mountain or something
and they have differing bonus effs
nope not with different effects but yea
the pathway cycle are mdfc lands
one side is one the other is another
wonder why ive never seen these
is it bc they have no land type?
feel like u could print that if u want land powercreep
i mean you would play a typed version in any deck fitting multiversal passage
thats isnt 3c+
its got sauce
i dont think it'd work well
iirc, game wouldnt let it come in on other side from a fetch
this is funny tho
i didnt realize that
Lands that are just strong mana are never really broken but they enable a certain power level of deck at times that wotc doesn’t like to be around
Anyways pathways were iirc actually p good lands
But as to the other thing the main reason wotc doesn’t do lands with alt card types is because they have an extremely consistent record of ended up doing things extremely unintended or otherwise broken
And it’s very easy for lands with utility effects that might seem banal to be extremely good
[[ramunap ruins]]
Lands are generally a last frontier for wotc in terms of powercreep I feel
how big is the standard card pool
just played vs a red whit edeck where ive literally never seen any of the cards
and ive played vs red white like 15 times
[[pinnacle starcage]]
Artifact
When this artifact enters, exile all artifacts and creatures with mana value 2 or less until this artifact leaves the battlefield.

: Put each card exiled with this artifact into its owner's graveyard, then create a 2/2 colorless Robot artifact creature token for each card put into a graveyard this way. Sacrifice this artifact.
bro said lemme cast a soccer ball 🤣
you think so? I think especially with mdfcs they're in the scope
mh3 mdfcs have been an improvement upon most zendikar mdfcs and I think we'll keep going over time
Mdfcs are a huge push but I sort of feel like that’s on a diff spectrum
Bc again they aren’t printing lands that like… do more
But they’re making it much easier to find your mana
Idk how to explain
we also get random stuff like [[abandoned air temple]] that randomly creep the old land that did this that was colorless
maybe not more ig but I think more efficiently
mana is mana at the end of the day, but efficiency of effects on lands seems to get better
otawara and boseiju are also extreme standouts
arena is so lucky in game chat doesn't exist
i feel like spatula stealth hates white more than he hates green
the thing is
white can either be completely free (lifegain deck with humidifier rabbit and the cat) or stage 18 cancer (enchantment spam)
green is just consistently cringe
sleepy art
is there a way to remove a hexproof counter
or is it just the same as hexproof (continuous status) unless the controller of the creature removes the counter themselves
i faced that tmnt alligator with that
leather shoes or whatever
i won but i remember in the past i tried to cast a spell on it to remove its counter cause i thought it was a 1 time thing
I know wym
I agree that lands have gotten better still
But just in a much less aggressive way than other card types
Stuff like field of the dead was unbelievably broken even if it reads much less offensive than it is
Or ramunap
[[nowhere to run]]
ntr…
This is tech
Holy shit
White players would be cooked
got the quandrix precon for msrp, very poggers
Nice! I’m waiting for the product allocation to stabilize before buying all 5 for bulk pricing
This card sees you pay in a few decks as an anti sheltered by ghosts card
/in pixie it’s the primary method of removal
Where’s the tech for emblems
Yeah I found a sick tech for winning with your brain turned off
[[Badgermole Cub]]
Creature — Badger Mole
When this creature enters, earthbend 1. (Target land you control becomes a 0/0 creature with haste that's still a land. Put a +1/+1 counter on it. When it dies or is exiled, return it to the battlefield tapped.)
Whenever you tap a creature for mana, add an additional
.
Every mountain starts as a molehill.
2/2
Damn, someone gsz’d out a strangleroot geist and pumped it with cauldron to hit me
It would be a shame if undying doesn’t work
Watched the 10 player commander game and the rule they added was great but the game contained a lot of things to what I expected
Lots of smol bean syndrome
damn I didn't realize [[flow state]] said "and"
Sorcery
Look at the top three cards of your library. Put one of them into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order. If there is an instant card and a sorcery card in your graveyard, instead put two of them into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.
yeah
oh wait [[borrowed knowledge]] is insane in this rhystic copy meta
best pokemon pocket impression
This was my takeaway also
Imagine how painful it would have been without the rule
Promoting protectiveness was a great call
What's the rule?
Bag of doom, each players name goes into the bag of doom, in order to get out of the bag of doom, you need to deal damage to an opponent during one of your turns
The catch is that your opponent can do stuff like crack their fetches during your turn to get you out the bag
Do there’s a bit of politicking that can go on for that
At the end of the bag of doom cycle, if there’s still players left in the bag, 1 is chosen at random and they lose the game
There’s another stipulation where if you kill a player then the bag resets without your name in it and bag order starts with you
Interesting...
No bag on first 4 turns either
[[hydroponics architect]]
busted card that's probably getting nerfed at some point
no
he wont
at least not until i get a chance to go fetch library of alexandria and never run out of cards ever again
oh boy
just to abuse it
how many do you have Ren?
Here comes prerelease 2
gl oomfie
Oh according to the book, Kasmina is an oldwalker and can detect sparks in people.... And she's desparked...
so she cannot see herself...
interesting planeswalkers not allowed
Welp grist is just bug now
Literally. All the boring characters kept their sparks
But anyone who was cool lost theirs
Wtfffffffff
The only cool planeswalker they can bring back to save the plot now is Kaya…
Wait kasmina’s an oldwalker?
Apparently according to the book
The book is canon, iirc
But she could be lying
||Although she also apparently resparks at the end by forcing herself to, so that's some credence to her being one||
does that mean you can become a planeswalker just because you will it to be?
call that a force of will
Quintorius kept theirs…
Is Kaya desparked as well?
I mean that’s how that one kid got hers
yeah but she's different because she manipulates fate as a baseline or something
Also do we know the big secret of Strix or is it still not out yet
there was a remarkable lack of secrets in the set
the secret was the friends we made along the way
there was a secret in the novels which was ||undoing the snarls would split the plane in half and kill the elder dragons probably|| but that wasn't in the actual set
i wonder if that'll come up when we get to alt universe strix
Haha yea that’s why I’m asking as nothing alluded to anything afaik. Was wondering how this would tie in to the students being in Lorwyn, but I didn’t even pay attention to that story lol
Old walkers probably work different
Old walkers were always built different even after the mending
u guys ever bm so hard u accidentally deck urself
yes
i never played storm before
and didn't know it counted my opps casts
and then drew 18 with wisdom
oops
i had 2 level 2 artists talents on field and a gran gran
so all my monuments cost 0
i had like 24 over lethal
i just wanted to do the cool thing
and didnt realize my deck ran out
[[monument of endurance]]
Sleeving up for tomorrow @sleek ferry
Hope you learn a thing or two
About what
About winning
MY DECK IS SO BIG
It’s not the size of your deck but how you use it
yeah that was my reaction at first too
then you realize there's no extra and it becomes fine
Damn my double sleeved deck is splitting sleeves
But my other double sleeved deck isnt (inner sleeves are different)
No idea why this is happening
I think I’m shuffling too hard
sigh i'm actually tempted to make a mathemagics deck
help
the allure of the silly wincon that can also be a 2 mana draw 1
Bro I just played vs a pure exhaust deck
With the guy that looks like ziggs
[[afterburner expert]]
Creature — Goblin Artificer
Exhaust —

: Put two +1/+1 counters on this creature. (Activate each exhaust ability only once.)
Whenever you activate an exhaust ability, return this card from your graveyard to the battlefield.
Speedbump has miraculously survived ninety-nine rocket crashes, and he's aiming for an even hundred.
4/2
congrats, you played against a random pile of cards
congratulations you're a true quandrix student
that said you could invest your exponential mana in that or you could invest it in [[doppelgang]]
anything you want, if the opp is ahead on board then you can copy their stuff
that's one of the beauties of this card
Eh i usually like less nebulous wincons
I think lute into mathemagics plus critique is enough
I see what you're saying
that isn't as cope as it first seemed, forgot this says target player too
And the card doubles as a shit draw spell if need be
that said if you're already running critique then isn't that plenty? at that mana you can dome half their life
I mean
True
But having a single wincon isn't the best
Like what it they heal
Realistically critique won't do over 30 dmg a game
is this the avatar wish board deck or the oops all spells deck
are you planning to hard draw into this as a 1-of
2-3 just sounds like a bunch of bricks but idk
ik it's a 2 mana draw 1 but if you're doing that you're dying
I think 1 mathemagics either main or side sounds nice if the game goes long maybe
Maybe
I'll have to test
I just know from playing creatureless jeskai black that sometimes you unfortunately need creatures
Rev gives you good ones but that's a happy coincidence
I'm not familiar enough with 4c control but ik a bunch of lists have had some 1-ofs like the owl
Ye they usually run like 2 creatures
I don't like it
Also i sold my wan shi tong
I think he's good but he's only really mainable due to landfall existing
And I don't have that in my locals
ic
Latest buys @sleek ferry @knotty ferry @atomic harness
Good job
Holy rich
The comments on this post were ridiculous btw. “WotC can’t even print stuff correctly due to how much UB slop they’re printing”
Meanwhile, printing is the one thing WotC has the least control over
the number of total sets they're printing is lower than it was last year or the year before so the idea that ub is somehow causing this is absurd
@knotty ferry and anybody else looking for Meta gaming content on the new set, this is probably a solid video to watch with some top players https://youtu.be/ovYeZiGNmg0?si=GxLK9BtpFM-t_RYL

imma listen to this at the gym
I respect nassif but he was incredibly text blind during his initial evaluation
I respect his opinion but only after the format progressed
Last prerelease 3-1
Consistent but sadge
Got a stupid loss r1 cause i drew 5 in a turn and they were all lands
And i was fishing for removal
And it was like that basically both games
Yeah, Edgar does the heavy lifting in these discussions
Oh ok sure then
In Nassif’s defense, he just had a kid
I'll have a look later
True
So his mind is probably on everything but mtg
Yeah but after "i skipped critique it read trash"
I think I'll listen to him more in a few months
He also thought erode was trash
Edgar made the point that erode scales better as the land is mostly inconsequential the later the game goes
While the maps let your opponent fish a bit
Vs get lost that is
Ngl i think so too, and since the game is fast rn it's gonna be trash than gold more often
Cards like erode really depend on how good the threats its removing are
The added synergy with wan shi tong is a plus though
yes but i don't see it that much, into aggro you give them a land and early, and into control you have other tools online
my theory is that it's obv not a 3-4 of, i think it's a 1-2 of at best
and only in control
Nassif is a control specialist so it makes sense he thinks it’s not that great but decent
That and also because he probably has his mind off standard rn
ik he was incredibly high on tablet
i was too then i realized it's RR
it's akward most of the time
it's as akward as lute into double color spells but at least lute is a giant wave of mana so you can manage the floating mana
and there's so much of it you don't mind floating
i tried hands with both tabled and lute and it's funny but waaaaay too greedy
we'll see, sos is bringing so many playable cards it's hard to predict
which is to say, i am probably talking out of my ass too
🤷♂️
[[skycoach conductor]] is going to do a lot for this deck
Finally sleeved everything, nah, this shit is massive. Wtf
No way my double sleeved ygo deck was this big
tmnt negate 🤮
dw you'll get a nice negate eventually
i have the jace one
Bought a Quandrix precon that's pretty severely misaligned
But one of them is straight up miscut with the test sheet on the side
oh that's pretty cool
someone i know is selling "miscuts" that look like they've just been cut in half and it's impossible to verify
It’s so funny that the Silverquill deck is $75 while the other 4 are $50 and under btw
I don’t even think Silverquill has the best reprints
yeah I was wondering what's up with that. is that one even the most popular?
It’s the one that’s the obvious most powerful one, where you get a draw engine that’s easy enough to trigger in the command zone
Potential draw 4 a turn is pretty good
this cycle isnt very good right
this reads unplayable in standard but probably breaks some eternal format somewhere
Not really
It doesn’t break any format but it’s a good answer to maybe a couple lands
I can only think of bazaar at the moment but maybe it significantly affects maybe 3 other cards
You can’t activate dark depth’s counter removal ability
Lands that bounce don’t do anything with this
what about if it has 0 while you have this
Slow lands are usually solid standard additions, their playability goes up post rotation
Then dark depths triggers and gives you the guy and goes to grave
thats not an activated ability?
Nope
That’s a trigger
It does hit 1 part of the combo though
do u just declare thespians stage instead
ic
Tap abilities, man lands, bazaar, shifting woodland all come to mind
They can activate stage on any land if you call stage and still combo off lol
[[thespians stage]]
Nah
it has to be one they control?
They can copy anything, and if you didn’t call that land then they still have access to the stage ability
Copying hamlet does nothing
yeah im just saying if they have 2 mana they can copy the hamlet at worst
yeah
like if theyre getting mana from artifacts or something
and its their only land
Oh in that case yep
whats the difference between this and prowess
The big modern application will probably shifting woodland for hamlet
Prowess gives +1/+1
[[shifting woodland]]
Best application for old school gamers is you play it in lands and hit wasteland
Hamlet on ugin’s lab doesn’t really make sense since they still get the double mana
or do you mean like vs this card
Vs it
ic
Copying hamlet when the thing copying it’s already on the field does nothing, you don’t get a hamlet trigger
Titan is an annoying deck that just loops with shifting woodland
Land
, Sacrifice this land: Search your library for a basic land card, put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.
"A hamster sumo wrestler? Snot that's also a crime lord? An alien newt assassin? April, how am I supposed to edit all of this footage into something watchable, much less believable?" —Irma Langenstein
[[terramorphic expanse]]
Land
, Sacrifice this land: Search your library for a basic land card, put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.
Some say this snarl—the most turbulent, changeable location in all of Arcavios—is the birthplace of the five elder dragons. There are also whispers it's where they are destined to die.
are these just the same card
You just sacrifice these lands in response to the trigger, hamlet does nothing
But yes
If hamlet had said “as this card enters, choose a land name” it would have been sooooo funny vs fetches
yeah im just going through the entire set rn
didnt know they just reprinted the same card with the same text but a different name
til
Yeah, cards like these are great for building a draftable set
And it doesn’t break anything having multiple copies of them
arena keeps flashing me with "strixhaven comes out in 2 days" so may as well figure out whats in here
Set is def interesting
Had a lot of random cards that just slot into decks
And gives some legs (maybe) to some decks that needed them
It was great in sealed if you opened at least 3
Multiple cards match “go ninha go”, can you be more specific?
[[go ninja go]]
I think resonating lute is overrated tbh
Cauldron will see play
I hope ark sees play, as it’s super interesting
yeah thats kinda where im at
i didnt even know people rated lute tho
[[daydream]]
so is this the best way to blink things?
im not finding anything else this efficient
oh nvm i found one
[[splash portal]]
[[ephemerate]]

this card is banned right
oh its legal everywhere
neat
daydream is kinda like ti tho
even has a way to cast it again
just worse
Solar loves that card iirc
[[flow state]]
Sorcery
Look at the top three cards of your library. Put one of them into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order. If there is an instant card and a sorcery card in your graveyard, instead put two of them into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.
i like this card
i like it but tomorrow is the first time i get to actually play it
will proxy it with a colleague at work
i need to evaluate it in a real game
it's on a very thin line of "this is fucking broken wtf" and "guess skipping t4 loses you the game"
they are pretty balanced around it being a fixed epic
not to say that they are the worst thing ever but they are pretty okay
The white one in a slower format has potential
i mean yeah
theres other 3 mana do nothings
and the spirit from avatar that is a 4/5 with ward and flying that needs to waterbend
but its
in like good decks
see the issue is that
is the card still bugged
actual aggressive decks will punish reanimate in standard
like monument doesnt always trigger on 3, you need to attack with gran gran for that
but also people dont main deck artifact removal like that
[[withering curse]]
i like this card a lot
also to me the best one feels like black
[[unholy annex]]
Enchantment — Room
At the beginning of your end step, draw a card. If you control a Demon, each opponent loses 2 life and you gain 2 life. Otherwise, you lose 2 life.
(You may cast either half. That door unlocks on the battlefield. As a sorcery, you may pay the mana cost of a locked door to unlock it.)
Ritual Chamber

Enchantment — Room
When you unlock this door, create a 6/6 black Demon creature token with flying.
(You may cast either half. That door unlocks on the battlefield. As a sorcery, you may pay the mana cost of a locked door to unlock it.)
this but way easier to build around
and doesnt die to removal like that
costs more mana but also the upside over time is way more worth it
the issue w the black one is that its just a bit too expensive
and realistically they tie if you try and play any demon for upfront cost
i mean u cant really make it 4 mana no?
thats feels too pushed
yea
but at 5, its def too much to pay a turn even if you choose not to, then your draw engine is off
but ppl have been trying golgari ramp lists with cornucopia to gain life
and have the 3 mana board wipe always available
and this as top end
its not really worked to what i've seen
theres better ways to play golgari
i mean control just seems weak in general
from what i can tell
many threats but few answers
Idk, I saw somebody coping on sultai control post sos in the prerelease, and it looked like the worst thing ever
any color combo of control jsut seems bad idk
ah but you see, the issue there isnt control
its sultai
magic's most cheeks combo as of late
Sigh, mardu control (tbh its evolved more into a midrange/tempo deck) will do great things come Tuesday
sure. i'll believe in a mardu control list before a sultai one
you say that thugs but i feel like every control deck would rather be a tempo or midrange deck
and making it a control deck is just making the deck worse
Well you weight your options here in playing blue centric control vs non blue control, what are the strengths and weaknesses into the current meta, etc
For me, [[inevitable defeat]] is a card worth investing in for non blue control
i just played vs a deck on this
the problem was the evoke elements eat decks like this for breakfast
I mean depends what deck you’re referring to. Spellementals? Decks that play deceit?
Idt mardu control does bad into spellementals at all for example
i was on the combo superior spiderman combo deck u put me on
i couldnt find bringer but 4 mana deciets were putting in work
I could see g1 dimir having an advantage yeah, that makes perfect sense
yeah the main problem i found on my opps side is that the hand snipes kinda wittle em down
rescource wise
The lack of draw engine is a negative yep
I do think cards like flashback do a lot for this
like the superior spiderman example, i spend 4 mana to snipe a card and return whatever you develop, and then he did this card
and he kinda gets 341d
yeah lol
like i do like inevitable defeat a lo tbut it can be kinda blown out at times
tbh tho i do think deceit is a pseudo control muncher
even vs like, blue based control
Eh, on the play sure, but blue control decks will choose when/if they’re letting your deceit resolve
i mean deceit also implies ur on blue
so they arent getting to counterspell it for free
they only have so many cards and mana
That so many cards is way more than you with 4 consult and 4 stock up, and we still got to see how flow state fits into that equation also
I meant flow state
Not consult
im not saying its a one sided stomp, but i think ur giving the control player too much props here
theres a reason the arcehtype is struggling
i'm sure the reason is not deceit
idt hes the only reason but i think hes one of the reasons
resolving superior early into control is painful an unrealistic
well into blue based control
Yeah it’s not because of deceit, but ignoring that, control arguably got a lot more toys this set than any other archetype
which is why it's the only one viable rn
As opposed to blue cringe control
i mean idt control is viable at all
At all???
maybe that changes with sos
That would be objectively false
Wtf
that is uh
Don't people still play jeskai control
Jeskai control is/was popular pre sos
Thank you thuggleton
And Jeskai control is probably significantly better post sos
This yuni kid played 1 game vs a bot on control and thinks it's unviable
Than pre
i mean as i said maybe things change
Change? It's already viable
Control isnt viable, players are just too bad
I guarantee my boy CGB would cook you on his signature blue white control
Word me @sleek ferry
CGB is the control wizard
CGB invented counter spells
Not to be confused with the grand wizard, that’s spatula’s boy
The only grand wizard I’ve seen decided to wear all white on horseback, bad idea
i think anyone on that deck is deluded idk
now i really will remove myself from the convo
The only viable decks right now are decks I’ve lost to
The only non viable decks right now are decks I play because I only play based off meta
Silence commander player
Yuni is silent again
When pressed
Just makes claims and dodges questions
Actual ragebait
?
bro told me to make a list
Yes
what do you want itto be 3 decks long?
?
why do you think im taking a second
i gotta list em
this guy bro
wants me to make a 100 page novel in 10 seconds
and calls me a fraud when i dont
List them out 1 by 1 duh
name every list ever made
Registered nurse
idk the post sos meta noob
You heard him commander player
Pre sos
We know you play Ms. Bumblefuck or whatever her name is
I’m sorry, I don’t listen to non modern kiddies
The stunt double for the rabbit in Monty Python
That’s the other guy
Adam has the $2000 version of ms bumblefuck, he’s allowed to play her
my agents
One can’t help that the bunny Farseek is the best art of it of all time, fight me
Your agents say control is unviable, shut up
Holy fk this is sick
Indeed
@knotty ferry
Some of the treatments we’ve gotten lately are super nice
not all archetypes are good at all times
its okay to admit that
Lmfaoooo
Bro really decided to stop making a list and decided to go online
do you want me talk out my ass or something
You already do
You're already doing that
Thank you mudkip-san
This guy is trolling
@atomic harness wake up son
Maybe I was wrong about you, maybe you can survive in modern
A very strong maybe
I can survive anywhere
You can trust this one mr mudkip
This one
anyone taking control to a standard mtg event is on some hard hallucinogenics, and i see theyve been shared with everyone but me
Ok why do u think it's unviable
Here I’ll make a list, the top 5 in Yuni’s list he posted , 5c elementals, Dimir midrange, Azorius Momo (which gets a huge buff in sos), Dimir (midrange and combo), Jeskai control, rakdos rummaging, bant rhythm
Idt I missed anything important
a lot of decks have a high density of threats that you have to continuously answer early in the game, not giving you space to try and draw more, meaning you are more reliant on topdecks. due to every deck having to play a high amount of lands, + low space to play draw makes you more reliant on drawing a decent flow of reactionary cards in the early game. theres also the problem that current control lists tend to play more taplands than other decks between surveils + manlands from what i can gather? meaning its very realistic to miss some early draws, or get a little mana screwed early on. now im not saying control cant win a game no matter what, thatd be dumb. but looking at the results online a lot of (fringe) results tend to be around 20th-32nd place in a lot of these events. the boardwipes can also come down a little slow, especially if youre on the draw, since iirc most tend to be around 5-6 mana? and the other day we were talking about how a large amount of swings can happen turns 3-4, meaning idt its unrealistic to say that your entire engine just comes on a little too late. now there is the argument of say, you counter their early big push or their second big push, and then you can stabilize around there, maybe having a boardwipe to clean up as you do stabilize and take over the game, but to me that just feels like a lot of moving pieces to have to find early on, especially in combination with lands, and since as i said earlier you often arent getting space to use draw spells early on, i find it can be hard to sculpt around getting to the stabilization point.
Sounds good, in response I'll tap 2 to cast no more lies to counter your essay. Gg planeswalker
Holy hell, a new copy pasta dropped
ill tap 1 to cast spell pierce, and then attack in with 20 with my badgermole cub, nice deck duelist
You don't have any mana
why not
How you tapping 1
have you read badgermole cub?
I destroyed all your lands
i have infinite mana
Holy cope
so you destroyed all my lands and then has extra mana for counterspell on turn 2? holy broken deck
i take it back control is tier 0
I went to bed
yeah i didnt know control had a secret start of game effect that nukes all their opps lands, countered all their spells, and then gave them extra mana on top
while drawing card
I briefly read that and i disagree with most of the points, but it's 23:30 and i have to be up at 6
If i remember I'll make a few points in the morning
I'll remind you
I believe in you, critic
I was gonna say finally someone that gets it but then I kept reading
Ok, I just played irl, ngl the hardest part is just keeping track of everything
I wish irl was like arena where ur cards became small when u put more of them into play

lol
Also [[Leatherhead]]
Multiple cards match “Leatherhead”, can you be more specific?
I hate this card so much
4 drops have a way of either being insane or dogshit
BAN ALL GREEN CARDS
Never in between
Unbased…
Silence diaper boy
Also you know what I was just thinking about
I haven’t seen beza in like 9 months… @twilit canyon
I miss him
white midrange decks nowhere to be found
Solar vs yuni, 2026, colorized
Funny interaction: Technically you can mulligan to put a target to reanimate on bottom of deck for him to mill
Haven’t people been doing that with Grenzo forever?
Probably, but how many Grenzo players do ya know
Got to play a cedh game tonight and we realized it's funny that [[Gifts Ungiven]] is a game changer when [[Intuition]] isn't. Both say "win the game" on them
And how manu share his being a goblin
If anything, Intuition is the stronger card
Why are you asking me
I want your opinion on our findings
TLDR after the first new Phyrexia set Phyrexia found out how to breach the multiverse, shortly after Jin gitaxias found out how to compleat pws. Before they did a large scale invasion a lot of the praetors went on missions to other planes to basically wreak havoc. This is what led to jin compleating tamiyo and basically fucking over the wanderer, vorinclex fucked up esika and basically killed the world tree (this is what then enabled them to actually conduct the large scale invasions) and sheoldred killing jaya and compleating ajani
AFAIK urabrask didn’t do anything during this, and Elesh Norn was busy getting trolled by ashiok
Pretty bad
Also somewhere in here sheoldred figured out how to do super sleeper agents which were basically free hax and half of what made them so scary
Thank you son
Also on this topic do we ever see sheoldred/urabrask/vorinclex fighting ppl in actual card art @twilit canyon
I know we see vorinclex get his fucking shit rocked by kaya
I thought vorinclex was duking it out with Kaya and losing yeah
But do we see him like… basically killing esika
speaking of kaya where is she anyway
do we count sheoldred's edict
Sure
Duking it out is incredibly generous. Kaya fucking annihilated him
Vorinclex got merc’d almost immediately
It wasn’t even a fight
Vorinclex a chump fr like the color he represents
@knotty ferry
Crazy bc badgermole cub would no diff kaya
[[vorinclex]]
Legendary Creature — Phyrexian Praetor
Trample, reach
When Vorinclex enters, search your library for up to two Forest cards, reveal them, put them into your hand, then shuffle.

: Exile Vorinclex, then return it to the battlefield transformed under its owner's control. Activate only as a sorcery.
6/6
The Grand Evolution
Enchantment — Saga
(As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter.)
I — Mill ten cards. Put up to two creature cards from among the milled cards onto the battlefield.
II — Distribute seven +1/+1 counters among any number of target creatures you control.
III — Until end of turn, creatures you control gain "
: This creature fights target creature you don't control." Exile this Saga, then return it to the battlefield (front face up).
Word
He mauled esika halfway to death and then kaya showed up and he immediately tried to leave the plane LOL
Unfortunately for him she is the ultimate tracker
No
Because that’s just her sentencing him to death isn’t it
[[sheoldreds edict]]
Or something
Also to answer she basically got trapped on ravnica
Or correction actually I was thinking of war
Kaya was under so much scrutiny from aurelia/ravnica as a whole that she was last seen hunting bears on kaldheim
Esika didn't even die
Inga saved her
True, but Vorinclex couldn't even kill the youngest and weakest Kaldheim god
Well the gods are all hardy even if they can’t fight back
The actual damning thing about vorinclex is that nissa almost killed him
Jobber supreme
The Kaldheim gods are some of the weakest in the multiverse
And Esika is the newest god there
I thought they just sucked at fighting but were still v resilient
Again, vorinclex still a jobber but it’s not like killing esika was his job
He was just supposed to get the piece of the tree which he did and then dipped
@twilit canyon hey gamer how come flare of fortitude and solitude are banned in historic
there was a blanket ban on free spells
Their design policy is all free spells in historic are banned
Funny because most of the flares suck
ie: force of negation and endurance are legal
And [[Pact of Negation]] has always been allowed iirc
Fon and endurance but no solitude sounds crazy
They banned flare of negation and allowed force of negation
flare actually kinda real thanks to architect
Flare is weaker yeah lol
so i get the reservation
every blue deck in this format should be on hydroponics so flare becomes much more reasonable
Isn’t it just cultivation that’s like actually not good
I guess fortitude is mostly a commander card
But the edict one isn’t bad I thought
I just bought the borderless Gwen Stacy + yearbook Aesi for $12 combined
[[flare of negation]]
No card found for “flare of negation”
[[architect]]
Multiple cards match “architect”, can you be more specific?
[[flare of denial]]
[[hydroponics architect]]
wtf this is broken
[[force of negation]]
FoN is significantly better than flare
[[force of will]]
This is the actual goat one
i like the art of it with the angry man
aura
why is it a blue card when theres fire tho
Blue cards can have red stuff on them…
Gwen Stacy? You mean Nia, skysail storyteller?
are creatures so fake that fon not hitting them is that good
Aside from that I liked the double masters art a lot
No that’s actually a pretty notable downside
The reason fon is goated and fod is like passably good at best is because of how much easier it is to have a card in hand than on board
He’s not crying
