i've seen ppl "gain life" around it or other "cant gain life" effects
and then go "oh sorry i forgot"
and sure, u can easily just track things like this
It's a judge call for either. I'm not saying this card has to be printed today, but it's a card that has 0 issues preventing it from being printed
but thats def something they wouldnt wanna have happen often in paper
I mean, it's less to track than day/night
alchemy has been home to "paper legal but annoying to do in paper" designs for a while now and these cards always have ppl confused as to why its not paper legal until its pointed out how potentially annoying it will be later on
People forget the day night triggers all the time and that comes up with shit like [[Graveyard Trespasser]]
Creature ā Human Werewolf
WardāDiscard a card.
Whenever Graveyard Trespasser enters or attacks, exile up to one target card from a graveyard. If a creature card was exiled this way, each opponent loses 1 life and you gain 1 life.
Daybound (If a player casts no spells during their own turn, it becomes night next turn.)
3/3
Graveyard Glutton
Creature ā Werewolf
WardāDiscard a card.
Whenever Graveyard Glutton enters or attacks, exile up to two target cards from graveyards. For each creature card exiled this way, each opponent loses 1 life and you gain 1 life.
Nightbound (If a player casts at least two spells during their own turn, it becomes day next turn.)
4/4
This card is way less mechanically complicated than a decent bit of recent mechanics. It's 100% fine to get a paper print in the future
yea and they are keen on making sure things dont get too out of hand on these effects
i actually dont agree on it being less complex
its got a ton going on
You just have to track 1 psuedo-emblem
That's less than Day/Night, Dungeons, Ring, etc
It's like [[Sea Gate Restoration]] or the other one that does that
Sorcery
Draw cards equal to the number of cards in your hand plus one. You have no maximum hand size for the rest of the game.
"We have much to remember ... and much we can never forget." āTazri
Sea Gate, Reborn
Land
As Sea Gate, Reborn enters, you may pay 3 life. If you don't, it enters tapped.

"We carry on the legacy of those who defended our world by continuing to unearth its secrets." āTazri
Was thinking of [[Ancient Silver Dragon]]
I wonder if the new overlords make a mardu shell usable for standard
is that just rakdos with more tokens
I agree with alph on this actually. I don't think screaming nemesis is the best thing to print but it's also already been printed
I thought about it and came to the
Conclusion the deck would just be better as rakdos midrange
ah yes, the crab of recent archetypes
I was thinking of using that new zombie from duskmourn
Yeah
Screaming Nemesis is also not even the first of that effect
There's a lorwyn card that did it too
Cannot remember his name rn
seems okay to me tbh
I think you need to be solidly sakdos though to abuse the haste
Yeah, it's like fine in sac
not sponsored but you can redeem a free dinosaur deck for mtg arena on alienwear, pretty solid
https://t.co/omjnHhEiOA
yo
What does heist do
look at 3 random nonland cards in your opponent's deck and choose one. exile it face down. you can cast it from exile and can spend mana of any color to do so
Turn 3 Welcome to Darkness, X=1, then Deaths Shadow
Then die to whatever your opponent is doing
Busted
Actually with Dark Ritual you can do that turn 1
okay but have you considered
A Magic players greatest weakness: interaction
just jund em out that works for me
junding them out means high interaction
exactly

Some people are calling it "Rakdos Cauldron" but lets be real, the exotic star of the show is the tree.

I just discovered the interaction between [[Resolute Reinforcements]] and [[Of One Mind]] and I hate it
Oh why the fuck isn't that token a human
Damn
you can steal vehicles this way
if u had flash or force them to crew it on your turn
and they still retain their vehicle status and abilities becoming creatures
We did it we can finally go infinite with devoted druid

[[Swift Reconfiguration]] is one too
ye i like swift druid
So I had to check because I was curious
Optimus Prime 1/1 counters
Eowyn, Shieldmaiden human tribal
Sethron, Hurloon General Minotaur tribal
Ulalek 5c copy eldrazi
Sam and Frodo food tokens
Gonti, Canny Acquisitor theft
Queen Allenal of Raudach Selesnya tokens
Sefris dungeon delving
Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer face downs
Mr. House, President and CEO dice rolling/tokens
Ms. Bumbleflower 1/1 counters and group hug
Miracle Worker precon
This is all the decks I own I believe off the top of my head
Is that too many?
it's as many as you want
Did a major oof at locals today
This got accidentally left in one of my opponents posession when I left š
Luckily the card has been located and my locals has it ready for me to recover it when I return.
Make an orvar deck around it
As funny as that is, nah I won't be building Evil Squidward for my first mono-color commander deck
Heās cool tho
Also your username reminded me
I need to find woopers/bunny pokemon to make some grouphug tokens cooler
Any average person can just use the bunnies that came with the precon (and I don't own salamander warrior tokens for Gor Muldrak), but it be an extra level of fun to make all the tokens be pokemon cards.

@atomic harness
the goat is covering one of the goat creature types
real
for how much I complain about boring/overbearing commanders in brawl, I feel like valgavoth is the opposite. 9 mana is way too much in today's game, monoblack does not remotely facilitate that kind of ramp and any advantage you have loses you life so you just eat actual shit to aggro
if you're a removal pile then you aren't running enough ramp and you're stuck at 4 lands while your removal slowly runs dry
ogey
Rats rats we are the rats
Sick art tho
okay normally i don't complain about alchemy cards being doable in paper but what is supposed to be digital only about this?
i think for this its probably just a card that didnt make the cut o fthe main set
4 mana 8/8
it is a really interesting design imo
but wanderer and mistmoor overlord def took priority
and the obligatory mythic white room for the cycle also took priority
4 mana 5/5 universal lord that manifests dread as a total of 8/8 of stats is not dog
its honestly pretty damn strong
2 for 1s removal
Oh true forgot to account for the thing it makes because I feel like it'd rarely manifest dread in a shell that's using it for a lord effect
And you only either have the 5 or 3 in stats at once
In draft, this would be really good
But I can't see it being playable outside of draft
4 mana 5/5 lord in a creature deck is fine
4 mana 8/8 post-board wipe is strong too
it should be solid in alchemy
most likely not enough for historic but its a solid card
Very solid card that is dependent on the power of the rest of the format
In a vacuum itās good though
i do think as a whole there are only a few alchemy decks where it'll be insane in
Been testing blue farm and master of keys for this cedh event testing pod
Blue farm is still solid
This is another one that's completely paper friendly
3 in the set
Other than the deck exile, this one is too
It'd just have needed the deck exile to exile the top card
welcome back grinning ignus
(Chance it misses, but could have had a clause where it goes until it hits a nonland that puts the rest back or whatever if they wanted 100% the same functionality)
Master of keys has been very meh, idk if itās the build or if itās just not good enough
This one sorta too
Could've just exiled the card and let them play it from exile
Like [[Elite Spellbinder]]
nah its perpetual
Oh right, perpetual
that means its never going to have that go away
Ngl that's another case where perpetual feels really tacked on to make it "this has to be digital only"
There's always some decent-good alchemy designs, but it's weird how many this time feel like they could have been printed in paper or were just very minorly edited to be digital only
But there's at least 3 that require 0 changes to be paper compliant
Also... This one is wrong?
It should be Dimir
All the other two color glimmers are the same color as their Bloomburrow draft Archetype
And there's two Orzhov ones and no Dimir one
already shared this one
True, I just noticed it's incorrect
I dunno if it'll be Dimir in client then or if it was coded wrong
But it's 100% not supposed to be Orzhov
Razor Demon is ridiculous no?
It's spellbook is [[Demonic Consultation]], [[Demonic Pact]], and [[Till Death]]
It's Demonic Bargain and Ever After
Yeah none of that answers Razor Demon
Card is stupid, right?
possibly
I mean it's a 3 mana 7/7, puts them on a very short clock
And they don't get anything that deals with it
[[Ever After]] sucks on t3-5
And Pact puts them on the clock too
[[Demonic Bargain]] is the only one that can theoretically answer it
And then you're exiling 13 cards to grab a kill spell
It feels like this alchemy has too many cards that could have just been printed in paper
Like Welcome to Darkness
Yeah there's 3 that can be printed unchanged and a lot that are perpetual in place of +1/+1 counters
I get that perpetual has niche differences in usage
But for the most part, perpetually gaining +1/+1 isn't that different from a +1/+1 counter
This set definitely feels like the least "justifying alchemy" set in a while when most of these are paper compliant or very mildly not
The squirrel is cool tho, it's a good digital only design
Anguished Recollection is a good design too and probably playable
But most of these are just "perpetual" on an effect that doesn't really need it
Agreed. It feels like they didnāt have a good feel on how to approach this set, and the one thing I definitely do not want, is paper printable cards to be made digital only
Like Welcome to Darkness is jank, but it would have been fun jank
Yeah Welcome to Darkness would be fun in commander and stuff
I've had the issue that a lot of alchemy cards just perpetually boost stats too when most of those could be paper compliant with+1/+1 counters
There were some good Bloomburrow ones that really felt like they needed to be alchemy and I'm sure others from OTJ and MKM
But a lot of these feel really forced
Goddamn what a baddie
ngl tho this reads entirely like
"alchemy designs are too hearthstone and not magic enough this sucks"
wotc: okay, we will make more grounded designs within the rules of magic
"alchemy designs are too magic-like and not taking advantage of the digital space"
yeah i agree with misty
given how you talk about digital only cards it seems to me like you would be complaining about them regardless of what they actually do
Itās not like they have a quota though, right?
every alchemy set has 30 cards in it
Oh huh
Unfortunate, a couple of paper cards will end up there then
Maybe they should use it as a testing ground with nerfs?
Yeah testing ground for nerfing/buffing cards that weren't strong enough in their draft is a good idea
They did that for SNC, but I don't remember seeing much of it lately
Stuff like buffing the survivor archetype would be good
they don't nerf cards often anymore because people get mad at them when they do that
I'm fine with digital only cards at this point tbh (don't love them, but they already exist) but it's just the lack of innovation and reason for them that's the issue
Cards like the squirrel that can be played from the top if its own top is an interesting digital design space
But it's hard to justify 30 cards per set when 15 of them are just "paper effect but with perpetual and seek", 3-4 can outright be printed in paper (The raccoon, the demon token one, and the white mythic), and maybe the rest feel uniquely digital
Stuff like Assemble the Team, The Squirrel, and the red draw card from this set are good
do we have another <= 3 MV reanimation target to pair with this in white/black? cause using one of the two low cost white reanimator spells on this sounds decent
or maybe even an esper build with oculus, but idk what the land situation looks like
I would change a decent amount in this list
lay down arms seems interesting to me
Lay down arms is fine, you do need your 1 mana removal, issue is vs aggro you do need your reactive removal, hence why cut down is so good
Saying this list does well into aggro is also disingenuous. It might do well into aggro if you know youāre vsing aggro before g1
But Iām like 90% sure this deck just loses to aggro g1 unless theyāre 5head and mulling for their aggro answers
god this art is so good
Anthem of Champions {G}{W}

Bro got a card that isnt even out yet
I have 7 decks, Iām trying to decide 5 of them to keep
Food
Human tribal
Ulalek
Tenth doctor precon
Bumbleflower
Kadena
Minotaur
Well, Iāll be getting rid of Optimus Prime, Gonti, and the Miracle Worker precon
Card is way too fair

ooh cool i wanna play an atraxa deck but that seems like too many mythic for me :(
i kept human tribal
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/JltV4QNHD0Ck8Cy8PTsNMQ i'm debating on what to cut for wash away and dawn's truce
Day 53 of me saying overlords are so fucking fun
Itās so weird because standard right now has a lot of based shit, but itās also extremely toxic at the same time
Meta legitimately feels like a āgoodā Yugioh meta rn
Is Mono Red still the current meta in Arena?
For best of 1 you have to build for your deck to beat mono red/gruul/rakdos yes
unplayable in bo3 somewhat
the meta coming into worlds or approaching it has been golgari at the top at 15% barely into mono white tokens at 12% into
azorius tempo, mono red prowess, orzhov midrange, dimir tempo/midrange, domain, boros control, gruul prowess, azorius control, gruul delirium, orzhov tokens, and rakdos viper
How does Azorious control fare against the meta?
if bo1, its somewhat a struggle cus u get no games 2 and 3 to even out
Ah, so Azorius is best with a side board?
magic as a whole is
control all around tends to be more oriented towards g2/3 cause a third of your deck can just not answer the deck you're playing against
ye
shit I kinda wanna play some explorer, I low-key miss her
perfect number to top end vs early aggro
perfect into midrange
good into control mirrors
an immediate 2 for 1 if she resolves
demands a counter in the match up
it did create a spot where if u were not playing white in ur control deck u were playing it wrong tbf
its still the case right now but it was more the case befoee
ye, march helped a ton too
I'd say white blue was also just crazy cause memory deluge was a genuinely ridiculous advantage piece. not as good into every matchup but the ones it was good in it was game deciding
and then there was sunfall, farewell, lockdown...
we have all but farewell and emperor and march rn
and deluge, that rotated too
Gonti
Optimus Prime
Zinnia
I tore apart those decks, I keep thinking thereās a 4th but idk
Best girl
what the FUCK do I have to play against this draft
that's valgavoth under trapped in the screen by the way š
a constructed deck
Fun fact: So the best pack to open for [[Summon the Pack]] would be Legions since the set was all creatures, but you run the risk of opening a [[Phage the Untouchable]] and dying on the spot
Legendary Creature ā Avatar Minion
When Phage the Untouchable enters, if you didn't cast it from your hand, you lose the game.
Whenever Phage deals combat damage to a creature, destroy that creature. It can't be regenerated.
Whenever Phage deals combat damage to a player, that player loses the game.
4/4
a small price to pay for [[hundroog]]
Battle of Wits hero, Ryan Gassaway, has top 8d a New Jersey RCQ
He played against mill in the swiss and his opponent conceded upon deck presentation and went home https://t.co/b0qcTKZ5Tq
his opponent conceded upon deck presentation
Could you fucking imagine
Rocking up with mill, thinking youāve got this new spin on it no oneās seen
Or one thatās proven to have results, either way
Youāve paid for entry, youāre doing well in the tournament
And your opponent pulls out a battle of wits deck
At that point conceding is all you can do because I certainly donāt want to be known as the guy who lost to battle of wits
modern mill has the means to mill out a battle of wits deck
lmao that's hilarious
I feel like the funniest way to play battle of wits is to have the deck contained in like 5 deck boxes
Just take one out of your bag, open it, put the cards on the table, wait a second, take the next one out
no its most definitely just a case of "do you even care enough about that win to go through it?"
Ahh
I'm thinking Jund isn't the move rn, with how much Get Lost, High Noon, and Graveyard Hate are in the format
Jund Vore is too fair

apparently they are watching leyline of resonance in bo1, which is nice. second-ever bo1 ban on arena would be extremely welcome
tbf
i dont think it goes
leyline is ass
even in bo1
i gave it a shot and its literally a free win and a massive dead draw to play leyline
saw some guy playing the red deck, mull to 4, concede
saw many ppl not open leyline, i cavern them and they have 3 in hand when they could have won the game
the card is bad and it shouldnt be played in any competitive magic deck
it doesnt even steal wins on the ladder the way minion of the mighty did
at least that was 2 real cards + the dud in hand
also super nice that anthologies are returning
I think the thing with it is how problematic it is when it does go off and how free it's ladder farming
Sure it might only have a 55% or so WR
But when you're winning every other game on t2-3, you can grind out a lot more games than someone on a slower deck
Every time you see Leyline + mouse + a pump spell and they don't have the removal you just win on the spot
In Bo3 it's not an issue, but it's an issue in Bo1 probably
Also, they 100% didn't play test with the new rotation in mind
Swiftspear and Scamp would have been rotated, making the T2 kill way more Christmasland
yeah i think it will be banned for the same reason [[tibalt's trickery]] was banned
Instant
Counter target spell. Choose 1, 2, or 3 at random. Its controller mills that many cards, then exiles cards from the top of their library until they exile a nonland card with a different name than that spell. They may cast that card without paying its mana cost. Then they put the exiled cards on the bottom of their library in a random order.
even if it's not good it's not healthy for a strategy like this to exist in the format
Itās not even because of how good/bad the card is
Itās the play pattern that exists in bo1 because of it
As you said, people aggressively mull, and either win on the spot or automatically scoop
except they dont even win on the spot much at all
even in bo1
if there is a ban, its just not fun for these types of games to happen
I mean, even if it only wins 25% of the games that way, that's still too many
also, Historic Anthologies 1,2, and 3 are returning to the store
25% of the ladder being non-games is BAD
until November 12th
The issue is the non-game factor
Trickery was the same reason, yeah
It was "hehe I win on t2" or "welp scoop and I move on"
god trickery was miserable in every ladder it showed up in
The actual decks that got it banned in pioneer and modern were more defined
But Trickery's standard ban was objectively because it won 25% of the games on t2
And they don't want the ladder to have a 1/4 chance you just queue up and it's decided by coinflip
If anything, this is only slightly better than trickery in that it's more telegraphed
At least when you see the Leyline t0 you know it's a nongame
i think u can leave the leyline alone and it wouldnt change anything but if u ban it to set a precedent itd be fine
Sometimes cards aren't banned in the context of meta, but because the play pattern is unfun
Cauldron Familiar ate a standard ban for that too
Standard didn't have the graveyard interaction for the cat at the time
Well hold up here, cauldron familiar was actually good
So not a great example
But yes, leyline will likely eat a ban for play pattern reasons
Cauldron was good too, but the ban explicitly mentions it was sorta done for Bo1 Arena
They said they believed the card would have been fine until rotation, but it was an unfun play pattern
they did it to save ppl from slow play and to early rotate it (and teferi time raveler)
Ban mentions a bit of all three
It was good, unfun play patterns for the format, and it was too time consuming
But yeah, there's enough precedent that Leyline is unfun to play around so it'll probably get a Bo1 ban
they still cannot find a way to make leylines good/fun
and honestly they probs should stop
rather awful play patterns and for what?
lore?
They're not even a lore thing
But yeah "free game modifying effect that you can have t0 BUT it's RNG and swingy" really isn't a great design space
Even in formats like pioneer rn, stuff like Leyline of the Void can just non-game a game t0
Same with Leyline of Sanctity in formats like Legacy
Void is good
It's a good design
If the match up is that bad that you need to mull to leyline, it creates bricks in their deck and then Void remains as a good stop-gap for GY decks
I guess a bit so with Sanctity and Legacy now
Sanctity isn't great because of the same issue
But the issue with Leyline designs is they're either an insane t0 answer or they're nothing
If your match up is so bad you need it, you are trading off a ton of consistency
For a while, Sanctity was in almost every sideboard for legacy because of stuff like Tendrils and Scam
I've seen a fair share of fair cast Void
With Scam dead, I figure it's less so
nah
You auto lost to Warrens
But Sanctity was everywhere for a bit
Void is probably the best designed Leyline, since it does feel fine to hard cast it, and it's usually not immediately a game ender rn
But every other Leyline has either been a nothing card or too much
It isn't ever against competent decks
ye
good decks vs void?
fine
bad decks vs void? auto lose but u also auto lost to rip
or crypt
Mmhmm
Hell, even Leyline of the Guildpact, which does nothing in pioneer, is strong AF rn
I think Leylines can be good if they are not enablers but answers
Problem is all other Leylines are enablers or attempting to be
wouldnt say strong
but yea
literally just says devotion +4
and mana fixing
less of a thing to matter with overlord
but it is relevant
Have not paid any attention to Pioneer post-bans is Devotion a thing again?
disregard that I played a Pioneer event last weekend
I think a better example would be nexus turbo fog ban in bo1
ehh
its played
the deck had okay winrate but the lack of chess clock in bo1 meant it was cancerous
i think it has significant flaws and its lost its edge
no karn is a blow to the deck's midrange plans
and i think there are more than enough decks going over the top of devotion to make it hurt
Also I am not surprised but DAMN the Overlords and Oculus feel like some of the most meaningful Standard prints in a long time
I'd agree with that
It's on and off, but the meta is turning more control heavy and that eats at its gameplan
Devotion was relatively safe into the combo decks and Sacc
But Phoenix outpaces it, Azorious never lets it set up, and stuff like the Rakdos Transmogrify thing can get their kill off before
Lol @glad peak remember when we said some jank EDH stuff was gonna cause [[Leyline of Transformation]] to become $5? It went from $0.50 to... $1
Enchantment
If Leyline of Transformation is in your opening hand, you may begin the game with it on the battlefield.
As Leyline of Transformation enters, choose a creature type.
Creatures you control are the chosen type in addition to their other types. The same is true for creature spells you control and creature cards you own that aren't on the battlefield.
I should totally pick one up for omo
I generally donāt agree with the general consensus but I agree that leylines if they wanted to make more, should have been in mh
Oh god direct-to-modern leylines sounds terrifying
Can you imagine Leyline of Faithless Looting or Leyline of Grief lol
I just don't see benefit to them being proactive game pieces and/or enablers over something passive like Void or Sanctity
I just don't see the appeal to making more leylines as a whole
I can see them being fine if you commit to making them be like Void
Leyline of the wheel: force both players to wheel turn 0
They either don't do anything or they're too much and it's hard to find the Leyline of the void middleground where they're like good but not overbearing
But looking at the new White one or Blue one
The White and Blue ones were clearly designed as buildarounds
They are really bad because when do you ever need that effect turn one and if you do, you never want to pay full price for this effect
gotta print free cards to keep up in a fast standard clearly /s
But the issue with that is that you can't really do it if you can't guarantee you see your buildaround every game
There are surprisingly little ways to gain life turn one with a creature in play.
The idea is that you play the white one in soul sisters or something to play all your cards as Serra's Ascendants lategame ig?
But again, I'd rather not have that be a card I only sometimes see and never wanna pay 4 mana for
No I know why they built them. But it's not a good four mana card.
I'd pay maybe three for that effect
Then there's really baffling ones like the green one
Possibly two
green was just designed by a jodah player
ali eldrazi is likely gonna try it at one point in 5c legends for fun
The new Green leyline is the most offensive one for sure
Like it's clearly a buildaround for something
Does nothing. Changes nothing
I'd argue the blue one is
But the issue is... What is that
The blue one is like another Conspiracy effect for like Slivers and stuff
If you wanted a discount on huge spells we have many cheaper ways to do so.
I can see the idea
green at least you can do some kind of jank valgavoth thing maybe if you're cute, blue just doesn't have anything in standard
But the issue is what tribal exists in standard/pioneer/modern that runs blue and NEEDS to be tribal
I guess you could argue it's for like Merfolk or again, Slivers?
Humans
Lmao time to build Azorious humans
They keep printing viable Merfolk though
Yeah that used to be the play
I will say it's hilarious whenever I draft the set and the Leyline is like the P10 in a pack
Azorius splash Jund
specifically you need a tribal that doesn't have enough tribal support and it's in blue
But you were core Azorius and played a ton of non-humans like Skyclave Apparition
Wasn't Orzhov humans better than Azorious during the time both existed in pioneer?
Not in Modern
Oh right, forgot humans was ever modern relevant
It's always on and off in pioneer, but it's only ever been Orzhov or Mono-White
And currently I'd imagine Pioneer wants Azorius as well
Mockingbird surely is worth the color.
The blue build was bad, and luckily the green build has moved into realizing they're better off cocoing into 4 hatebears
Nah deck is Mono-White again
T1 Hopeful Initiate, T2 Thalia's Lieutenant, T3 Coppercoat Vanguard is the dream
Topend of Adeline
I guess that makes sense, but I haven't seen it at all
and mockingbird doubles up on lieutenant
Tbf, humans isn't in a great spot rn
thats your most broken play
Outside of Phoenix, all the good decks can just boardwipe you
And now that pyroclasm exists, Phoenix can too
I was pretty sure it still wouldn't be tier one but I can be sure clones like Mockingbird are new to Pioneer
And would see meta play
There's technically a couple, Mockingbird is the best tho
Yeah Merfolk is playable
But it's not great either
And you wouldn't wanna be playing the Leyline lol
But Merfolk get Mockingbird, Floodpit Drowner, and some pretty good cards
did that free counter spell help them?
Oh no this is independent of the Leyline
Not in Pioneer
I dunno about modern Merfolk
o mb missed pioneer
Modern yes of course
Iirc modern Merfolk has been cheesy wins for years now
Merfolk are eating
Not like tiered or anything, but it drops a cute win from what I remember
The problem they run into is Energy
They don't like playing into creature-centric metas
And Modern is a creature-centric meta
And I imagine the blood moon Merfolk helps them a ton
Harbinger is great yeah
In pioneer, Merfolk are cheesy too, but they're lacking ways to actually do things Humans and Angels are doing
And honestly, I wouldn't even wanna be on humans
Angels is right there if I wanna play only creatures and Collected Company
Nah Humans is Mono-White rn (I guess Azorious)
i think bird is better pimage in many ways too
Actually give me leyline of the wheel
It just kinda plays exactly the same as angels does
No downside leyline sounds hilarious
Bird is sick yeah
The only difference is that humans gets a board of just 5 4/5s with ward 2
Leyline of Reanimator more like
Turn one dump your hand, draw seven, play land, reanimate
But Angels does that too and gets a board of 7 8/11s and has like 60 life at that point
Nah itās perfectly balanced, both players get to wheel
Can you imagine how pissed people would be?
I trust Ward 2 over bigger numbers
honestly same
Oh you kept a good hand? Better hope your next 7 are good too
- humans are individually better cards than the angel cards
who are just
big beaters
at best
tfw zero lander
Human cards are better individually, but angels are better for the long game
humans can run thalia + amalia can go wide as fuck
nah i dont agree there even
topdecking a human will be better than the average angel
I've been screwed over mana wise by wheels so often in commander lol
I mean outside of like bishop of wings, most of the angel cards in the pioneer list are solid
They should print Ranger-Captain into Pioneer
And a coco in pioneer can be value city in angels
i simply dont agree
Interestingly tho, there is this middle ground deck that's kinda popping up
It's mostly hatebears + coco
Since the human deck isn't playing Thalia either
than any single angel
yeah they should be
i gotta check the list that topped
p sure it was on 4 thalia main
The human deck in pioneer is all small beaters to overwhelm you
The green list is on thalia
Although it's not humans tho
It's like Thalia, Archon, Llanowar Elves, and stuff like [[Yasharn, Implacable Earth]] in the topend
Legendary Creature ā Elemental Boar
When Yasharn enters, search your library for a basic Forest card and a basic Plains card, reveal those cards, put them into your hand, then shuffle.
Players can't pay life or sacrifice nonland permanents to cast spells or activate abilities.
In its hoofprints, barren dust becomes fertile ground.
4/4
Yasharn is an interesting meta call in pioneer rn
Yeah this is the main board for that list
A little birdie told me about this decklist š¤
Or maybe I just found it on the internet š» š¤·āāļø
The Regional Championship gave us some pretty sweet Pioneer lists, including this clean looking Azorius āŖšµ Humans šØ deck.
š» Full Decklist and Stats Here! š»

I could see this thing getting a bit more popular
from the regional championship
there are only 2 true dud cards to draw from this list and it'd be initiate, and bodyguard in a topdeck war
This was 10th at the Regional
everything else is at least relevant
I think this looks more real than both Humans and Angels rn
yea but thats not humans and i think that a list like that has a peak
its a reactie stax list to the current meta
if the meta changes, its cooked and has to retool
Yeah, depending on how the meta changes, I can see this falling off
It's good rn into control, Jund, Phoenix, and Incarnation
I'm not sure how it answers Transmogrify or the Mono-Black Mid deck
(That's another deck I'm keeping an eye on. Mono-Black Mid looks kinda real)
I think Jund just cannot win if they side in the Yasharns
Anyone else having this issue?
never
dimir midrange is feeling so nice this standard, it has so many answers and so many good threats

ćQRT of Interesting As Fuck (@interesting_aIl):ć
'Simple and effective rat trap'
good let the rat die
I was wrong, Brazen Borrower is correct in Phoenix rn
Bounce their Tefs, Rest in Peace, LoTV, and High Noons
Liliana of the veil?
Leyline of the Void
The only deck playing Liliana of the Veil on us is Waste Not and they're losing that one
I dunno, for a bit it wasn't worth maining
But now that High Noon is getting mained, it's probably better to keep it in the main
yeah I'm joking cause lotv can mean both
Was correct to side in against control or anything running cage/rip/Leyline, but high noon and control just being more prominent in general now means it's main time
It was kind of a dead card against Jund
bouncing talents to reset them could waste the deck's time for a kill
and was still good vs everything else
Yeah but talents is a new deck
When the matchup was Jund/Phoenix/Devotion borrower was fine but not doing enough
Control, Mono-Black Mid, and Caretaker's all main stuff that needs to be bounced
Oh I just realized you meant scavenger talent. Yeah, it made them take a turn off usually
if he doesnt say sol ring...
He makes the right call, don't worry

Summer is the only person in this chat with any amount of hype for new reveals
Also did WOTC just
Kill pioneer
Weird they forgot about it yeah
Especially considering pioneer is in a pretty good place rn
It is an anime magic card correct
True
They really have been mostly misses with the anime card arts
I think the worst one is probably still [[Balan, Wandering Knight]] imo
Oh I forgot about that one
Wtf
Scryfall includes THIS on "art:anime"
And it's not really anime but its bad too
This artist was a coward
Didn't draw Eriette's real face in the reflection
Yeah going through the anime arts, they're mostly uninspired at best
There's like 3 or 4 really good ones, but the vast majority kinda ... Suck
the art is totally inoffensive but its also just safe
Yeah, outside of the like 4 bad ones above most of it is fine
It's just boring and lame
THIS is a mayhem devil
He's a silly little guy burning shit and he looks cool
This is a deviantart oc
anime art smothering tithe is the premier way to play smothering tithe
Disagree actually
I'm getting a sense of deja vu
New force of this pear
Iām not big one the anime smothering tithe
They took the (ironically) cheapest way to divert from the original intent of the card (to bury someone in their wealth) by changing it to the weight of oneās wealth in a social setting, all to make a cheap anime trope reference
Where as the enchanting tales one I like a lot, itās a reference to a fairy tale (rumplestiltskin), and suitably has the same grim feel to it with the hay being spun into gold from not just hay but their own bodies
Oh true, didn't even consider the rumplestiltskin reference
Yeah that does make that tithe a lot better
And all the Orzhov ones are cool
nah just marvel stuff
and it's not even a crossover IP I am crazy about, I just like seeing new cards ā¤ļø
and then they got leaked and looked even less interesting for a lot of people
I thought some people were just guessing it was fake
We were coping that
I tried to buy them but the thing got taken down
There was a typo on the black panther card (white before green) and a typo on Captain America (red/white/blue opposed to blue/red/white)
But the Captain America one is probably on purpose
Although Guile didn't get it
lord knows marvel has the power to request it in that order
The Black Panther one probably would've been very unlikely to happen
And the border looked Azorious in the light, but it could have been the screenshot
random question but is anyone continuously getting a notification dot on the #1020928692983181372 forum itself
nope
I'm not seeing it
weird
marvel set excites me even less than the lotr one
Lotr at least sorta fits the ideas of mtg
marvel stopped being interesting to me about.. 5 or 6 years ago?
Marvel is just gonna be... Here's characters you recognize
At least the Lotr one had deep cuts too like Grima and stuff
lotr one fits better but they all just feel like they should be made for commander products
Wait, is the marvel one modern legal?
I believe it's the same as lotr
time to see the infinity gauntlet in all your modern games /s
I completely forgot the assassins creed one was randomly modern legal too lol
yep
asscreed set
asscreed really was a commander set with wizards going "lol but what if one of these cards is relevant? we're totally quirky for making it modern legal"
True, felt like they did it just in case
Then competitive players would have had to buy it
Well Iām personally ready for lotr 2
Lmao Benjamin Wheeler. Stephen A still the GOAT
with the chase card, "the second ring"
Cast It Into The Fire
Sorcery
Search target opponents hand, battlefield, graveyard, and library for any copies of "The One Ring" and exile them all. Protection cannot stop this effect.
Give me money WOTC
Give it companion and make it cost 0
companion - you are running no copies of the one ring in your starting or side deck
guarantee one ring for 3 mana idk if i actually take that
cus some of the most broken ways to use one ring is to go ring -> ring -> ring
I still think you should've been restricted to running 1 copy
breaking a rule of how all other magic card's work for a reference is not good game design
wouldn't it just be an inverse relentless rats
Yeah just put the "A deck can have ~ of One Rings" on it
I think the issue is that it either should have done that OR tracked counters on YOU
Since One Ring -> Draw 6 burn for 3 -> New One Ring is a problem
also pretty sure alph meant the card that hoses the ring, not the ring itself
we've discussed this multiple times already surely
Canceled my order on the endless punishment precon, made a mono-white voltron deck in its place
kinda tempted to get the pixel ajani avatar now that I have gems to spare. do they let you use gems you didn't spend money on?
man this orzhov deck for midweek magic is busted compared to the others
It really is
Also, they should not have put the fucking Azorious deck in there lol
It's go SO MANY triggers and I have not seen a player play it at regular speed yet
Iām doing the responsible thing
And using the 12 wild cards I built up to optimize my land base finally
"who are you?" "I'm you but more expensive"
It does bother me pixel art Ajani's blade isn't gold tho
compleation took its color away š¦
new blade who dis
what if he did actually get a new blade at some point
especially given the flipwalker ajani was very early on time-wise
flip ajani is his spark origin point
so yea
going to silver would be a new blade
Nah art from recent sets uses gold too
OHH ITS GOLD ON ONE SIDE AND SILVER ON THE OTHER
?
I don't think it's sad at all, there's 3 big evenly spaced events for the year
ahhhhh
would rather have that than 10 small events that are less planned out and harder for people to attend

Yeah! Uh-huhā¦
Play my commander
Uh-huhā¦
Are you even playing, Remy?
Uh-huhā¦
Youāre gonna be way beh...
Vegas baby!
damn, I arrived 15 minutes early to locals and tables are already almost full š
Hopefully you found a seat
ye I did and played a game that lasted 3 hours lmao
it was really fun though, everyone got to do the thing
Iāll probably stop going to my LGS on Fridays due to just shit community
Saturday the chiller people go in on now
Oh yea my jelly baby token finally arrived
Phoenix just cannot beat the Mono-Black Demon Midrange deck, huh?
I don't think it stands a chance, especially after they board
it can
the match up isnt ideal but there are many points where u can gain tempo vs the demon deck and blow them out
I'm not sure how you can keep them out of it tho
Brazen Borrower is your only way to answer anything bigger than an X/5
And otherwise you just have to hope you've got lightning axes and negates at all openings
theres only 4 cards bigger than an x/5
Whatever happened to the goyf deck that was picking up steam for like a week btw
in pioneer??
I finally did it, but Jesus that was unfun
Ran the control player down on time
They spent like 20 of it g1 because I had like 70 life
Welp completely forgot yawg will was legal in commander
Just got blown out by it in tevesh tymna after we dealt with all of the stax pieces
our modern pet deck
oh huh it's a thing in pioneer?
Mood
the thing about the modern deck is that currently
the recent obsession is abhorrent oculus
balemurk overlord + oculus fit into frogtide
super well
Lmao just found out there's a legacy deck that can use [[Chronatog]] and the One Ring to mill the opponent out
Looking for input:
The vendor contract for the Commander panel includes a *surviving* non-disparagement clause, which means it limits what I can say about them forever, even if the contract ends.
I don't mind the NDC, but I'm uncomfortable with it in perpetuity. Thoughts?
I'm confused as to what interaction these have
You never take another turn
You have permanent protection from everything
Your opponent loses because they run out of cards
ah I see it doesn't activate as a sorcery
Yep thereās that one and there was the older version that went top 8 at some event
Twas goofy
I dunno how you'd make it into a real deck since Chronatog needs some form of protection
But it's funny
don't you lose if they have anything that can exile ring in the deck tho
and that yeah lol
only need to protect chronatog
ring can go but the etb will remain
this hard loses to many anti-protection stuff though
True. It's a meme that'd likely steal games and not a real deck
But it's a funny concept
I think it's made top 8 all of twice?
Fun fact, it can also run [[Pact of Negation]] because you never take another turn
ah
What commander from Kaldheim should I build?
toralf is super fun
[[toralf]]
Multiple cards match ātoralfā, can you be more specific?
if you play a damage amplifier then a burn spell turns into a board wipe and nuke
[[toralf, god of fury]]
Legendary Creature ā God
Trample
Whenever a creature or planeswalker an opponent controls is dealt excess noncombat damage, Toralf deals damage equal to the excess to any target other than that permanent.
5/4
Toralf's Hammer

Legendary Artifact ā Equipment
Equipped creature has "
,
, Unattach Toralf's Hammer: It deals 3 damage to any target. Return Toralf's Hammer to its owner's hand."
Equipped creature gets +3/+0 as long as it's legendary.
Equip

Never been a fan of burn decks, especially after learning opponents choose replacement effects
that's fine, it's irrelevant if you can ramp up to 1000 damage by the end of the chain
Fair
At first I was like āwhat about koma?ā Then remembered
Itās koma
Iāll get deleted off the table before casting Koma
you can do koma if you wanna play a 1v3
I played my friends sea monster deck, I forget the commander but you pay mana, reveal the top card of your library and if it was one of the types, put it on the field
It was turn 6 and I was mana screwed, activated his ability and revealed koma
Became the table target and was doing nothing the entire game
Iāve thought about [[Svella, Ice Shaper]]
Legendary Snow Creature ā Troll Warrior
,
: Create a colorless snow artifact token named Icy Manalith with "
: Add one mana of any color."

,
: Look at the top four cards of your library. You may cast a spell from among them without paying its mana cost. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.
2/4
But then it turns into gruul stompy ramp
ice shaper
looks inside
not blue
Won at locals today through the power of 4 small birbs, a weird jellyfish, and a nice bunny I was able to swing in for the final hit š
My opponents were on Miracle worker precon (first out), a token guy (forgot what it was, but it kept making tokens, second out), and Baylen the haymaker if it starred in the Lord of the Rings
indeed toralf is very fun, any doubler increases damage exponentially with creatures on the field minus their toughness
for something more powerful, orvar might be doable
Gotta ask what would be the easiest format to learn. Finally putting an effort into wanting to learn Magic after being curious about it for a while as much as I despise Wizards and Hasbro
Mmm?
standard
Standard it is, probably will move eventually to Commander once Iāve gotten the hang of things. Had a friend recommending learning it so āyou donāt hate yourself later. ā
Ye, Commander
commander is pretty fun. having 4 players in the game really changes how the game is played, and it's a lot more social
Commander is a format I would not recommend to start with especially if youāre looking to get good fundamentals
But yeah gonna stick to learning standard first.
I feel bad for my friends who were hardcore only commander players (started with commander) and when they started standard they had to learn from scratch
Commander is great start with that.
it's a good second format but not first yeah
Also open to learning anything for Standard when it comes to decks and junk
Another format I definitely would recommend is pioneer
The only part different from standard is cardpool
And it's genuinely in a really good place rn
I also say this bc there's currently a super cheesy deck in standard running around MTGA ladder
And first things first after thay is deciding on a strategy
Hi kid how does an aclazotz deck look @stark skiff
Like an aclazotz deck
However Reid built it
Time to try out Standard. Guess we're playing Caretaker's since I've got most of the cards already
I wanted to mostly play pioneer, but all the events are standard rn
Creature ā Spirit
Flying
When Ghostly Dancers enters, return an enchantment card from your graveyard to your hand or unlock a locked door of a Room you control.
Eerie ā Whenever an enchantment you control enters and whenever you fully unlock a Room, create a 3/1 white Spirit creature token with flying.
2/5
This deck doesn't feel like it can play through oculus without topdecking a sunfall tho
My Valgavoth precon arrived. Ready to start playtesting at locals and then upgrade from there
I want to eventually make it a cEDH deck since my locals cEDH night is Tuesday, and casual EDH is on Saturday when my gf has the day off from work
Yes, itās a super cute deck
It didn't do anything lol. How does it win?
Sidenote: What should my sideboard look like?
I figure this isn't correct, but I dunno what I need
Valg cedh is pretty meta dependent as itās a parasitic deck but as long as your meta isnāt all turbo you should be fine
Otherwise you have to play quite a few stax pieces that donāt help you much just to slow the game down enough for you to eventually combo off
do you have ghost vacuum
that's probably how you deal with eye lol
oh nvm you have rip
Man the art of Porcelain Gallery looks cool
Iām glad that the art going harder than a drunk driverās car through a Dennyās is definitely a good lesson to learn. Like some of the Fallout pack art I saw with Three Dog for example, chefās kiss
sigh
Leaks confirmed
STARS AND STRIPES ass strategy
what uninspired design
someone at locals asked me if my bloomburrow winter plains was a proxy š
Ororo Borealis? At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country? Localised entirely within your card game?
Wow these are all really boring
Iron Man is a sidegrade to [[Oswald Fiddlebender]] I guess
Legendary Creature ā Gnome Artificer
Magical Tinkering ā
,
, Sacrifice an artifact: Search your library for an artifact card with mana value equal to 1 plus the sacrificed artifact's mana value, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle. Activate only as a sorcery.
"Can't see this airship crashing in the near future. Sturdy as a rock."
2/2
Yeah that sol ring is probably worth asking price alone
I'm not sure how to break storm but I guess there's something
Oh and my interest is completely lost
They're limited quantity lairs
The leaks were real
I guess if I'll proxy a universes Within version of Storm if I have any interest
you can uhhhh maybe fury of the horde then underworld breech to loop fury of the horde?
never mind it's not great lol
These are not the whole thing right? We're getting precons?
There's modern legal sets for marvel
gotta do more research for what storm can do lol
These are just regular lairs
ok good, so as I thought
I guess we can loop an infinite turn spell?
But there's better ways to do that
yeah idk the more i read her the less i actually like her
@clever sun yo girl is in somehow some way
Yeah there's like not a play line with her that's not better somewhere else
Wanna do creature things? animar
Wanna do Temur spellslinger? Why
There's Malcolm things too for Temur and that wins faster
flying vigilance in temur is also weird as hell why is she not haste?
Honestly
Temur Food Chain is dead too since she'd be... Okay for that
But that was Thrasios Jeska and we needed Dockside
And it wasn't even the best food chain build
You can do red blue spellslinger with green for mana dorks and endurance I guess
Oh this is gonna be pricey
You only get it for spending $199+ on lairs
Which was the case before, but big difference between this and the Scorpion God
Also that means the non-foil bundle will be $185 lol
voltron commander yup
Spiderman gets a whole set?
I assume that includes spider verse then
The Shelob support set
How many fucking sets is this crossover gonna be, because unless that's one of the 2 modern legal ones, this is marvel set 3
Realistically Spider-Man alone is enough for a full set, even before Spider-Verse stuff
feels like something that's mostly for people that just wanna spend more money on cards, cause it doesn't look that good
or super hardcore marvel fans, but there's already an infinity gauntlet signet so
Yeah, it's very whale and pretty ugly imo, but it's the first time one of these has been playable
Art for Ajani in Foundations answers an important question
He has human nipples
We can extrapolate an answer to another fan favorite Ajani question too
But I shant say
STORM!?
less to cast if you control a Human creature and a non-Human creature.

: Chronatog gets +3/+3 until end of turn. You skip your next turn. Activate only once each turn.
