Me pulling up to Commander Monday
From: Sonic Riders | Real-Time Fandub Games.
Zero value but its miku so its value
There is something... Off about the shelter art
I looked up the artist and it looks relatively inline with their other works
Azusa and shelter look a bit blegh
For shelter it’s the eyes and for Azusa it’s the mouth
Was gonna say it looked abit too perfect, but then again she isn't a real person so it works
I will say the shelter looks significantly out of place compared to the rest of the lair
Looks a bit too.... dramatic, I guess is the word?
Ngl it looks like a summer pfp
wish they gave us Jeskas Will instead of Chandras Ignition. But yeah, Miku fans are gonna eat this up
Oh God, The Professor is gonna have to talk about Hatsune Miku
Hatsune Miku announces worst value lair
This is straight up $5 of cards
Could they not have at least done a Naya Legend?
[[Jinnie Fay]] could have worked as Miku
[[Jetmir]] as miku would’ve been better suited probably
Multiple cards match “Jetmir”, can you be more specific?
Catgirl miku
I was thinking they'd probably want her to be a human or elf
So Jinnie or maybe [[Rienne, Angel of Rebirth]]
Me knowing this means we could have a dragon ball Collab but it won't happen because dragon ball already has 2 cards games of its own and it's toei
look at the bright side. Digimon tcg is dead lets go collab
Konami has the opportunity to do something really funny
Special rule for the event is every legendary has partner
"Commanders that already have abilities like partner won’t let players have more than two commanders at this event, but we applaud their enthusiasm"
Wizards doesn't support Polyamory smh
you say that but
play azusa and feather for double miku commander
@twilit canyon since you might be in tune with it, did outlaws of thunder junction change historic ninjas at all?
i love how obvious it is that they made urza's cave specifically so they could have another urza land with the name on the typeline
labyrinth is very cool for the deck though
what was the land that taps for each land with the urza type
oh that is sick
oh shit the kappa cannoneer leak was real
I can't believe they printed a card with commander in the text into modern
Yooooo he was real
I'm so stoked to play affinity exactly once
I like this a lot tbh
ayula husband real????
You can use it to ramp in the early game then grab a bomb you exiled with it in the late game
no doubt it was designed with that in mind
wow fuck nonbasic lands
please say sike
they really are trying to make us legacy lite
rangeling real?????????????? (in commander and legacy)
just satoru
I’m surprised they didn’t do all the cards that got leaked
Les gowwww
damn I really wanna run this in the 99 of something with stuff like kamigawa dragons
archon in bear clothes
Ugin's Labyrinth is INSANE, right?
Like sure you've gotta exile a 7+ cost colorless card but it taps for CC and you can get the card back whenever
That's ridiculous
You just put [[Sojourner's Companion]] or whatever on it
We have humility at home
He hates large creatures
the great equalizer
Humility at home: big fuckin bear
yes
He chomky tho
maybe something with anthems?
Thalia: I see this as an absolute win
If you can cheat out [[Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite]] with him, your opponent can't play creatures
Probably not worth 7 mana, but it's something you can do in edh or whatever I guess
nice combo. heres a solitude anyways
actually lol fury clears this too
do 2 dmg to norn, 2 to kudo
gg
Yeah, it's definitely not worth anything in modern
Wait no that doesn't work
Norn gives your board +2/+2
Your guys are 4/4s
But they can still solitude norn
Also fury is banned
I just don't think there's a build of DNT that wants to reanimate norn
Oh true, she's "other"
kudo dies to sba
But yeah, fury is banned so you could theoretically do this in modern
Still loses to bolt or whatever
dnt cannot reanimate norn
And again, there's no reason you'd play this
But I guess some bad edh decks will want it
No shot they'd print dress down on a body that sticks around at 2 mana
I don't even think [[Archon of Absolution]] removes abilities
[[Harmonious Archon]]
I wish this guy got printed into a lower powered standard
He was cool as hell
I remember trying to make him work with [[Outlaws Merriment]] and [[Divine Visitation]] while the rest of standard was on fire
Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, choose one at random. Create a red and white creature token with those characteristics.
• 3/1 Human Warrior with trample and haste.
• 2/1 Human Cleric with lifelink and haste.
• 1/2 Human Rogue with haste and "When this creature enters the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to any target."
I just wanted to play funky fair token generation
But yeah, even in MH I think dress down on a body that lasts more than 1 turn would have to be like 6 mana
i had already abandoned standard then
was in my modern phase playing humans and jund and trying to make phoenix work
and a whole lotta burn
Standard was fucked up by that point. I just thought the funny deck would be neat in a slower standard
Now look at standard, the best its ever been, and has a good argument for best constructed format in the game right now
There’s not a single deck type that’s not represented at the highest level. Aggro? Check. tempo? Check. Control? Check. Midrange? Check.
its boring as shit
Boring is subjective
I find playing with online mechanics boring because you can never actually theory them for real life, doesn’t mean I’m going to bash historic/alchemy
do you really see standard as the best it's ever been?
I've been playing it the whole time and esper midrange has just gotten so stale
it reminds me of kaldheim izzet dominance but longer
Easily, temur, 4 color legends, Azorious artifacts are all very fun decks
There’s also about half a dozen fringe decks
Yeah I'm not sure the extra year for standard was a good idea
I never thought I could find an azorious deck fun till azorious artifacts tbh, deck is just nice
[[assimilation aegis]] was such a cool addition
Artifact — Equipment
When Assimilation Aegis enters the battlefield, exile up to one target creature until Assimilation Aegis leaves the battlefield.
Whenever Assimilation Aegis becomes attached to a creature, for as long as Assimilation Aegis remains attached to it, that creature becomes a copy of a creature card exiled with Assimilation Aegis.
Equip
azorius artifacts are a cool deck but a solid chunk of the meta is the same as it's been for a while. maybe we need a bit more time to discover good stuff in otj but I need something fresh
Well in like 3 months you’ll probably get the worse of standard meta post rotation, where aggro is just king
yes because metas aren't figured out at that time and people go with the most straightforward strategy
it's still the most fun part of a standard because people are still figuring things out
Like idk about next set, but thunder junction is so good, there’s so many playables and fringe cards in this set
Probably the best set since Kamigawa high key
idk I could be wrong but the already high power of standard makes it harder to see what goes into the meta from the new set
Hopefully standard is better once Kamigawa and SNC rotate
But those sets shouldn't have been in standard for another year
I've been liking mono red prowess in standard cause its relatively simple to play
I am gonna miss the kamigawa cards
Yeah but this is on cast so its less interactable right?
Yeah
I'm just imagining something stupid
Like turn 1 dark depths mana rock dark ritual into this then cast og emrakul for free
but thats not how the combo flows
especially nowdays
marit lage is so easy to deal with nowdays
[[Dark depths]]
[[brazen borrower]]
nice marit lage
Ah
but yes
shelly's edict does not help
[[pick your poison]] nowdays at sorcery speed
which using mutated cultist causes
since its on cast, you cannot do something like chord of calling -> hexmage -> dark depths on your opponent's end step
and marit lage is just not a threat anymore if its not at instant speed
do we know when more reveals are coming out for mh3?
June 14
aight then yeah may 23rd
I mean I also thought Assasin's Creed would come out before MH3
yeah i was under the impression
Holy modern gets 2 whole sets dedicated to it in a row
but oh well
Good for them
well
(They're both commander products)
😔
have we seen the same mh3 cards so far?
TRUE
its more of a doompost if we say its all for commander ig
people said this about mh1 and mh2 when those were being previewed too
Tbf the assassins creed set mechanic literally mentions "Or your commander"
Yeah, it's just weird that a set "designed for modern" has that on it
crazy take but i believe they can design for multiple formats at once
It would be dumb for Wizards not to have Commander in mind for literally every product they make
Yeah but it's really weird to mention commander on cards designed for modern
kind of coping that they release another 7+ colourless affinity dingus in mh3
so the ugin land can just flop into affinity too
or I simply always open sojourner's
There's also the whole thing about every set having too many "designed for commander cards" nowadays
Which is definitely a valid argument tbh
Isn't the exact complaint that commander gets the lions share of cards designed just for it in every product even in sets with other formats on the label
Stuff like new Obeka does not make any sense on standard or draft
Yeah I mean I certainly would like it if commander could share the wealth with other formats
But for now that's just simply the financially correct decision
Yeah so it's weird when a set that's "designed for modern" is very commander focused
It doesn't help the kind of cards commander needs to function tend to be a lot more flashy and bloated
Which ups complexity creep longterm
They made it also share its pool with modern so that it can increase demand
That's the reason they made so many Unfinity cards black border legal
You know Ezio wouldn't have been wubrg and have a mechanic that mentions commanders if he was actually designed for modern
Also it's designed for modern so that if one of them ends up being orcish Bowmasters, modern players have to buy the set they'd probably otherwise skip
Yeah I'm not denying that Assasin's Creed most certainly has commander as one of its top priorities
Yeah, sharing the pool increases demand
why not? people being obsessed with commander is the reason standard rarely gets new fun brews
There's no cards in draft to use for Obeka or Eriette
If you pull either in draft it's a dead mythic
Also btw commander is genuinly fun but the high variance can get unfun after awhile; its all a sliding scale
don't think anybody is arguing commander isn't fun
Terminally online 60 card elitists are
can you point to them in the room right now
I don't think there's actually anything in that can enable Eriette outside of putting a cheap aura on like... A token?
Mudkip is on a mission to kill every single commander player
if it says upkeep and benefit obeka can use it
There's like maybe 5 cards in the set that say upkeep for obeka
She kinda nothing in draft
There are 3 other cards in OTJ + BIG that mention upkeep
Oh so way less than I thought
All of which are R/M
Yeah it's absolutely no secret that WOTC has been designing pretty much all their sets with commander as the forefront
And it's correct for them to do that
Wow so Obeka is even more unplayable in draft than I thought
There's a reason why MKM didn't do well other than its theming and poor draft environment
It had hardly anything for commander
I liked when set boosters had a slot for just the commander cards
Made it not eat up a slot for a card that was actually able to be used in draft
You forgot [[Outlaw's Merriment]] in OTP btw
And hardly in obeka's colors
And ONLY [[Laughing Jasper Flint]] is in Obeka's Colors
Legendary Creature — Lizard Rogue
Creatures you control but don't own are Mercenaries in addition to their other types.
At the beginning of your upkeep, exile the top X cards of target opponent's library, where X is the number of outlaws you control. Until end of turn, you may cast spells from among those cards, and mana of any type can be spent to cast those spells.
4/3
The others are Loot (You're not playing 4C for that in draft) and [[Generous Plunderer]] (actively a terrible card, you're just not playing it)
plunderer was tested in standard
Card's dogshit
its not great but it was tested
I would check for Eriette, but I'm p sure there's not enough payoff for her either
getting those tokens untapped at upkeep actually comes up
direct ramp on upkeep with little downside
There are a total of 5 Auras across OTJ/OTP/BIG
2 of which already blank the creature
Out of the remaining 3 that don't already take care of the creature for you
I would say 1 is arguably usable
[[Reach for the Sky]]
Which is green
you should tell arena drafters
I mean, 4c typically just loses you the draft
Unless it's something like double masters with crazy fixing
I think new Obeka and new Eriette are cool cards, they were just very obvious examples of "Cards that are only designed for commander taking up set space"
if you were green this draft, you can reasonably go 4-5c without too much effort
its not gonna be the highest winrate but you easily could
I generally go 2 colors sometimes hate drafting out of color bombs so other players don't have it but I'll admit I'm not particually good at draft
Cast this targeting Dark Depths, and follow it up with a free Ulamog
not everything that isn't competitively viable is aimed at commander
casual non-commander play is the most common way people play the game
sets were still full of competitively unplayable cards even before commander was officially supported
[[ambush viper]]
neat
Oh it turns that into [[Baleful Strix]]
Very slow and loses a lot of power but cute
jessie jane is a fun card
i like silent extraction but i imagine it can be hard to actually get the seek effect working consistently
Why does silent extraction choose before countering?
Feels like a really unnecessary line of text
copy effects
Ah, right
so anyways, who's your fav commander?
right now probably hakbal, which I didn't expect
just looked him up
i mean, merfolk is a very powerful tribal deck, but also intergrating landfall stuff can be very interesting
I probably could make him landfall but rn it's mostly just endless explore triggers for massive boards
man yoshimaru looks like he gets out of control insanely quickly
I mean he's a big Voltron dog
[[shizos caretaker]] is silly when I get a value engine going
but it gets hated out of the game very quickly
People don't expect 2 0-1 drops to just 1-shot you
Also allow me to show you the t2 combo
T1: Commanders
also incredibly annoying to pilot
"oh at your end step I do this, oops I forget to do it earlier"
my fav commander ive built is [[cyber controller]]
Legendary Artifact Creature — Cyberman
When The Cyber-Controller enters the battlefield, each opponent mills X cards. Put all creature cards milled this way onto the battlefield face down under your control. They're 2/2 Cyberman artifact creatures.
Other artifact creatures you control get +1/+1.
3/3
T2: [[Simian Spirit Guide]] or anything similar into [[Cloudstone Curio]] with any free creature in hand ([[Kobolds of Kher Keep]] or similar for thematic purposes)
You now have an infinitely large dog and one dead opponent
i made it as more of an artifact deck than a mill deck, but i love using it
On t3 you can do it with an [[Impact Tremors]] and the whole table is dead
[[ukkima stalking shadow]]
Legendary Creature — Whale Wolf
Partner with Cazur, Ruthless Stalker (When this creature enters the battlefield, target player may put Cazur into their hand from their library, then shuffle.)
Ukkima, Stalking Shadow can't be blocked.
When Ukkima leaves the battlefield, it deals X damage to target player and you gain X life, where X is its power.
2/2
Gishath
I do also love [[Ghen]] as a stax deck in Cedh, but I haven't gotten to play him much lately

I should proxy [[High Noon]] for Ghen
It's a repeatable 5 damage that's also a rule of law
It's like the perfect card for him
Big fan of playing unorthodox stuff in EDH's most competitive form
At the same time I also like jhoira
Which one, she's got 3 cards?
Historic storm
Yeah the only good one
I wanted to build this one eventually
it seems very fun
Ghen is very fun as a stax commander
The rest of the table doesn't get to play cards and you can turn off enchantments that are bothering you during your turn
Blood Moon being annoying? Swap it for a chains for a turn
:vapshoes:
But this time I have to wait like 20 turns to see if my opponents drew the out
so mystic mine
so mystic mine
sounds fun to steal a bunch of stuff
My only thought when I saw him was 'oh its infinite mana payoff man'
rn I'm trying [[gluntch, the bestower]] and [[tahngarth, first mate]]
Legendary Creature — Minotaur Warrior
Tahngarth, First Mate can't be blocked by more than one creature.
Whenever an opponent attacks with one or more creatures, if Tahngarth is tapped, you may have that opponent gain control of Tahngarth until end of combat. If you do, choose a player or planeswalker that opponent is attacking. Tahngarth is attacking that player or planeswalker.
5/5
I bought gluntch already cause I have a lower power pod at my locals
but tahngarth gets really fun really quick
my current biggest problem is that I keep liking decks that need 4 player pods and I run into 3 player pods
I need to find a way to build budget peregrine dynamo that still has eldrazi stuff
With all the colourless shit in mh3 no doubt stuff like Forsaken Monument are gonna go way up
I wanna proxy Tivit Cedh, Marchesa voting, and the gay kings group hug next time I buy proxies
Commander deck spoilers
"the gay king's group hug" now that i gotta see
them bringing back regenerate without even using reminder text is wack
especially when the whole reason they stopped using regenerate was because it was too confusing
I love that the theme is "boomer jund"
You automatically win if you show up to the table with a poorly photoshoped alter of them kissing
[[kalamax, the stormsire]] will always be my favorite commander
Legendary Creature — Elemental Dinosaur
Whenever you cast your first instant spell each turn, if Kalamax, the Stormsire is tapped, copy that spell. You may choose new targets for the copy.
Whenever you copy an instant spell, put a +1/+1 counter on Kalamax.
Its mood changes with the weather, and vice versa.
4/4
Wait hold on
They renamed Tribal to Kindred
... then reprinted all is dust with tribal?
the all is dust image is a mockup according to the person who leaked it
they only had actual pics of the new cards
the actual reprint of all is dust has kindred on it
They dropped the "(Zero is even)" reminder text?
Oh wait I forgot what all is dust did
They dropped it on twins of discord
I was mixing up the two
If this is true then it's a shame it's not OG Ugin being reprinted
Super late April fools lair
I get what they were going for, but these just look awful
Which is the point, but the new arts are all good and the textboxes are just so gross
Eww even the numbers are in comic sans
These look like the kinda art chatgpt would spit out
Oh my God I just realized the mogis uses "ur"
"Fur Hire" moment
But even grosser
I hope there's a version of this with regular borders because all the arts are cool
At least this one technically breaks even because Torment of Hellfire is $20. But the price you pay is in your soul, and outside of Ruination, it's all bulk
Wow this is lazy
This is just a regular lair but they went "comic sans and random caps"
I feel bad for the artists if there's no regular version of this
this is completely inoffensive
It's super lazy and it sucks all those arts are stuck on just a late April fools lair
I get it fits the "salt" theme, but just feels very last minute and "hello fellow kids"
Just realised they had the opportunity for a dies to doom blade joke
who cares. im sure the artists were fine with it signing off on it
Artists don't know the full details
They were just given the briefing for what their art should look like
I asked Daarken about it for the CLB Alchemy cards and he wasn't told they'd be going behind him and doing Photoshop filters
this is rough
huh that actually seems like decent baseline value for something like enrage triggers or any other way to utilize pings
I didn't realize Commander masters cost this much I just dropped $120 on 5 packs
I knew it was pricey but holy fuck
there are people that bought a box of this??
idk lmao I'm gonna find out when I get home
There are people who bought collector boxes of this
I'm not opening these without sleeves around me
I pray for the jeweled lotus for you
it's no jewled lotus but hot damn henge is like a solid third of what I spent
jesus henge is pricey
o damn yuriko is only $2 rip
the only time I ever split a box was splitting a collectors box of double masters 2022
$75 for a single pack basically
(4 way split)
Anyone picking up some of the modern horizon precons?
"mogis deals 2 damage to that player unless they sacrifice a creature (lol)"
idk why but this killed me
it dealt 2 damage to me even
This makes me want a secret lair with card game jargon

I wish we could get this in paper
no
also no way to verify which card has flash and how to track it having flash forever
could always use an infinitoken and rule zero it, but yeah it's design isnt really paper friendly
I mean its doable its just kind of a mess
You could just write it on a slip of paper and put it face-down but thats gonna have memory issues
if it weren't secret you could just exile it and it would be easy
it's not a 1-to-1 copy of the effect though ig
it not being secret would be a completely different card
Thanks for watching Good Morning Magic! If you enjoyed the episode, it'd mean a lot to me if you subscribed: it only takes one click, and helps grow the channel.
Today I try and answer one very popular, but not-so-simple question: where does the idea for a Magic card come from?
Have a question? Post a comment! You can als...
fascinating that he designed [[teferi's protection]] in like 5 minutes right before a meeting
it's such a great design
God dammit he got an Alchemy card
Sucks, he had all this cool story and I was hoping we'd have seen him in the physical set
Although that's also totally not nashi
That art is super off
Your boyfriend? Yeah we turned him into an alchemy card. Yeah we gave him an effect that couldn't see print in the physical games. Yeah no we made him look like a mouse.
I just don't think this artist can do people/animals that well
The face in their only other person is weird too
This art is good tho
so the opposite of ilse gort
Nah this art is fine it's a tad more realistic than magic usually gets though
The pose is a little off but for a non main set card this is pretty par for the course
Lmao well Isle Gort can only do a specific kind of person (furries) well
It looks like a lot of their personal work does way more stylized faces in a style MTG wouldn't do
Trying to find an example without dick and/or tits out
I'm with jot, the dude here looks great
That's a really nice piece
it looks fine, idk what you're talking about
They're very talented, yeah
Bleeding previous bounties before finally having theirs cashed
It's just not a style that really works on MTG cards
Since it's more realistic than usual
But yeah, sad Nashi got relegated to an Alchemy slot
mtg arts have been going for more realistic in parts
and the parts that haven't are stylized that way
I don't think they're a bad artist or anything
I just don't think they got Nashi right
Should've swapped them and Ilse from that uncommon
And put Nashi in the commander decks
I'm honestly not a fan of how nashi looks except for their anime art in neo kamigawa
Their first art is doing the meme face though
this looks like it came straight off a Japanese furry account tbh
but honestly, accurate lol
My favourite one
Been messing around with a Naya legendary deck, whose entire purpose is to ramp and get double triggers
[[pia nalaar, consel of revival]] + [[rocco street chef]]
Legendary Creature — Elf Druid
At the beginning of your end step, each player exiles the top card of their library. Until your next end step, each player may play the card they exiled this way.
Whenever a player plays a land from exile or casts a spell from exile, you put a +1/+1 counter on target creature and create a Food token. (It's an artifact with "
,
, Sacrifice this artifact: You gain 3 life.")
2/4
Very respectable then, carry on cooking
Targeet
otj alchemy full set just got revealed, rankle looks like a powerhouse
i really liked the blue black counter
teysa is a go-wide obedezat and ruby collector looks nuts to me as a finisher
ruby collector looks pretty strong
which one was that one?
weave the nightmare
ah, yeah this looks pretty decent even without multiple modes at once
the collectors are hype too
THE GOOSE
IS
LOOSE
solitary defiance is weird to me in blue, that feels like a pretty not blue style of card to me
The energy land is fake y'all
Why are so many of the cards set on Eldraine or Ixalan
Like Rankle, Elenda, that goose, and Vona are very clearly not on Thunder Junction
There can be multiple geese in the multiverse
That's very clearly eldraine tho
maybe they commissioned the art in a batch and shifted some cards around
I'm sure there's some stuff the other way around
Hmm I wonder if they're cut cards from BIG actually
Since it was supposed to be a larger set and these don't feel as slush art-y as usual
A bit sad the card with Jace removing the oil from his veins is alchemy only
Flavour text would've gone hard
Should've used his "you're infected with a disease" quote
“THE OIL IN YOUR VEINS IS A VIRUS. YOU ARE FEVERISH. YOU ARE DEADLY ILL. YOU ARE BREATHING, AND YOU ARE ALIVE. YOU ARE FIGHTING AN INFECTION AND WINNING.”
Also this feels weird as an effect, especially in white
I know it's both things white can do but it's not something you see them getting to do as both on one card
Iirc it's a blue effect in stuff like [[Ovinize]]
Oh huh
I think white just has that in its pie yeah
still feels pretty white to me, especially given it's only on tapped creatures
I just haven't seen that particular combo
Haha yeah those idiots
can people give me suggestions on a commander deck to make?
First 3 scryfall random legendaries
Define 'worth'
im not the greatest when it comes to deckbuilding, so i prefer easy-to-see synergies, and i've been haing difficulty finding some that intrigue me
Huh I just realized something weird
The first reported Chupacabra sighting wasn't until 1995
Meaning the game is older than chupacabras and every card of a chupacabra is based on a more modern fantasy creature than the game is
neat
I'm wondering if there's any other mythos creatures that are younger than the game in tropes
I’d say pick a precon and go from there maybe?
@bronze bronze what kind of playstyle do you like, or at least colors
we need something to go off of
If you want easy to see and make strategies just play elves
Literally write “commander:bg o:elf” into scryfall, pick a bunch of cards on there, then play it
What could be a good way to upgrade her precon without going infinite combo?
Cantrips
And as a spell slinger deck you’re going to want an infinite or two to finish games
Dual caster twin flame is a favourite
Okay infinite combos are okay as long as they don’t become Stupidly overpowered
Is probably better way of putting it
Just play all the sorcery and instants that discard for cost then draw, win con being lab maniacs
Lmao
Serra Spirit Guide, Cabal Spirit Guide, Tolarian Spirit Guide when
yeah not sure why you would want to add more lmfao
ye guy posted this before, but still funny af
I do a lot of almost winning lol
maybe you have to start sandbagging so you can waste people's resources to then win lol
I tried and then I was the biggest threat
Tbh I'm bad at the game when I pose any threat
maybe you should try build-a-board commanders
[[otharri suns' glory]] is very removal resistant
Legendary Creature — Phoenix
Flying, lifelink, haste
Whenever Otharri, Suns' Glory attacks, you get an experience counter. Then create a 2/2 red Rebel creature token that's tapped and attacking for each experience counter you have.

, Tap an untapped Rebel you control: Return Otharri from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
3/3
Like
Guff is very bad at being a wincon lol
Karador win combo needs too much mana
And the morph precon dies to any flying creatures
Myrrim, Yuriko, and Kaalia are huge problems for be
Me when I play Lord of Riots and they hold up removal for my value engine
Pot calling the kettle black lol(is that the right phrase? Idk)
ye
Stupid phrase anyways
Secret Lair: $5
Well I guess it's like maybe $10?
Either way, there's NO value there
god freestrider lookout is such a nice card in commander
hitting up to 4 lands in a turn cycle is insane if you have the right stuff, but even 2 lands is just ridiculous value
running them in gluntch means you get a guaranteed trigger on each end step
i tend to prefer either control or aggro style decks, with a fondness toward dimir
Sam from Rhystic Studies brings his Dandân deck so that he can show us Forgetful Fish! Described as a blue mage's dream, Dandân is one of the most complex Magic: The Gathering formats, but best of all? It costs very little to build! See it played with Georg here!

Man I love paying for a limited event only to get kicked out of my first game cuz of an update
1 {t}: create a token copy of target creature. gains haste until end of turn
3r can be cast with haste but dies at end of turn
forgot the name of the ability
[[jaxis the troublemaker]]
Legendary Creature — Human Warrior

I will be fair and say that's because jaxis isn't exactly a popular pick though
PFP, goblin king and if I'm having a good day rankle I will know off the top of my head
kiki jiki is more popular but jaxis is popular for budget commander in red
[[$kiki jiki the mirro breaker]]

I'm a bit sad there's no queen marchesa here
Would've gone well with the card theme
Especially since she's on the plane
Rankles the joker, goblin king is king, marchesa could've been queen, I guess pfp can be the jack?
Oh I forgot coffin queen is in the set
That makes sense then
...I just realised jaxis is the jack

So what's pfp? The ace?
have you tried [[yuriko, the tiger's shadow]]
Legendary Creature — Human Ninja
Commander ninjutsu
(
, Return an unblocked attacker you control to hand: Put this card onto the battlefield from your hand or the command zone tapped and attacking.)
Whenever a Ninja you control deals combat damage to a player, reveal the top card of your library and put that card into your hand. Each opponent loses life equal to that card's mana value.
1/3
you can play her as control or ninja typal
This is actually pretty sick ngl
Imagine a full set of poker themed cards
Oh yeah art is cool as hell
It's like a better implemented version of the tattoo ones
But I'm not huge on the cards shown
Welp someone I know doesn’t play magic anymore but every time there’s a commander pod he comes up and snidely remarks how many blue decks there are
Same guy who went off about how blue is ruining the game and how people should only play green “for an honorable fight”
If it's not blue black or red chances are I'm not interested
Same, those are the most explosive, interesting, and interactive colors
Dude wants magic to be turn big thing sideways sure that's fine, gruul has cards that punish people for playing spell slinger and such, but there's a reason people like blue black and red and that's because they give some neat decision making
Oh I played a green deck specifically for him
It was land destruction control with a storm finish
He then tried to say the player was the problem
But yeah idk why he has such a distaste for blue
Counterspells
It's always counterspells
"you didn't even let me do the thing or get the thing on the board"
Did they just not print the effect text?
Sometimes they don't
It's not a huge deal for these because they're either memorable or short
Like goblin king is a goblin anthem and mountainwalk
Back to the blue bad talk though, people don't like the idea that their cards can just dud
They want value on their investments without having to play around them
He hates decks that go bigger faster and any form of removal too which is weird because if he hates blue then he should at least like voltron
Classic you're not letting me do the thing
Anyway, show them this and they'll jam it in every deck they have
what
I know it feels like I’m adding more but the blue hating thing is just the surface
He loves storm for example but never plays it
Idk just show him lorcana ig
Sounds more of their speed
No instants, interaction only on your turn, combat matters a lot
He loves digimon but of course hates one color and mechanic
Hating sec control is a god given right though
Okay so ace Digimon I kind of get, it's a mechanic that reads a lot better than it does and can create feel bad moments... But digimons power creep has been nuts and it's not even close to the biggest issues the game has
And crusadermon

Yeah I don’t understand why he hates crusadermon of all things, he wasn’t even playing when it was tier0
I need to sit this dude down to make him play against pre banlist xros heart format
Anyways that’s enough of me ragging on him, he just spent too much time today just trying to get newer players to feel bad for playing their precon/silly theme decks just because they contained blue
This is a cool style, but wow these are unreadable as game pieces
Me when handtraps
"Grrr what do you mean the most optimal way to play is to run cards that negate my stuff you're a meta slave sheep"
maybe, ill get back to you on that
For some reason the bonus card for the wanted posters is...
Norin??
He's double sided?
I guess you flip him over when he's exiled
Better pray to god no one's playing cards that care about double-sided cards
Or else that's gonna be a long conversation
I guess this is because you have to be wary in poker of your opponents hand?
it is morally correct to proxy all RL cards
Morally? Most people don’t care if you proxy ALL cards
Financially? Do it
Legally? (For tournament play) No
Norin is for the wanted poster lair... For some reason
The bonus card for the poker lair is [[Coffin Queen]]
(Did they pick 5 cards that no one knows the text to to make it even worse?)
Even worse, the leaked version had room for rules text
This format still isn't great but it's a little better than what we got
I imagine it didn't work well for stuff like [[Rankle, Master of Pranks]] tho since he's got a ton of text
oh these are pretty cool
They're really nice (although the cowboy hat looks dumb on Tez)
The Korvold is nice to see and this is the first foil print of Karona
Kinda sad they picked bad Grenzo
But he's gotten a lot of reprints lately
idk not having access to cards cause they dont get reprinted doesn't seem like a good thing cough Trident Draigon
ultimately not our decision ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Like I don't think anyone (apart from vendors) would argue that everyone should have equal access to cards
Yep, rules are if you want to play in sanctioned event you gotta have the cards
what does RL mean
Reserve list I assume
oh
"Real life" is pretty uncommon to abbreviate that way
I've seen worse on this discord
Fair
I have a dude at my LGS who plays rocco to fetch [[venerated rotpriest]] and use a bunch of cheap white damage prevention spells to combo the table to death with poison. anybody have any ideas how to meaningfully interact with them without just running them down like the archenemy from the start?
last night I tried to hit him with targeted removal and he combo'd me to death in response lol
[[solemnity]] maybe?
Im gonna assume this is EDH
My question is uh
ye
How are they getting 30 protection spells
not protection, you know those really old cards where it says "prevent the next # damage creature would take"
usually a number of creatures and they tend to kill one person at a time
last night was a special exception since someone had that one artifact that generates a myr whenever a creature etbs on any field
Hm
Well the problem with combo decks in EDH is that attacking is just about the only form of interaction you can take against them
I would say like
Hold up a counterspell for rocco specifically
omfg
temporary lockdown is like a 1 of in most decks that run it
someone got me with 3
previews start in 3 days
pupper
These look like shit
I like the art but they're hard to read and kinda lame
Wait did they cut the text off on them??? Why??
ngl I hate these
this is the most "how do you do fellow kids" energy I've seen in awhile
i love thrun being the biggest hater
lmfaoo I was just about to say the same
Wait this is real
Bonus card is definitely thrun with a million dislikes
Nah the likes/dislikes are their P/T
Didn't even notice
So he can only be a 4/4
Yeah, the layout is kinda ass
idm this but are magic players even young enough to be on ig
Depends, but most aren't probably
Oh my God... This lair is gonna be sold via the TikTok shop
the what
You couldn't pay me to play these in my deck
I think those are hearts not dislikes
Ok like
I get these
And I think the whole "Social media card" thing could actually be pretty funny if done well
I don't get too beat up about sacrificing some amount of card legibility if the new design space you allow for it justifies it
I personally think textless lightning bolt is fucking sick
The issue comes in
The MTG mobile app UI being used here looks like ass
The jokes being made here are like
Really plain
And Im ngl the art itself doesn't really do it for me
Oh my God he's mewing
I HATE these
thought it was just a kiss towards the camera
It might be a duck face
nah pretty sure he is going for the "my name is skyler white, yo"
Yeah that is the reference
pretty sure the people that would play these are the same people that would get the ugliest face imaginable tattooed on their body
these give NFT vibes
True. I hope these bomb so I never have to see them attempt this again
Sacrifice an exerted employee: create a Treasure token
Cycle for Jeskai is crazy
why does it cycle for jeskai
who knows
cycling for 3 specific mana is not poggers
conspiracy so edh manabases dont get too good
it'd be bearable if they were like duals
and cycled for izzet or simic or smth
but 3 mana and it has to be specific, and then it fetches tapped? not great
the fact that they're untapped colorless lands before then makes them better though imo
nesting grounds looks like a really nice utility land, glad it's at uncommon
You guys know nesting ground already exist right?
nobody said it didnt
Oh sorry my apologies that’s the idea I got I’m sorry
oh no I didn't
Got to use Tarrian's Journal in a game finally, and it really performed very well. Transforming it is so worth it. Card's been in my deck for a bit, but I hadn't seen it in a game until now.
are you using it in standard?
I use it in brawl with old rutstein to turn his tokens into draw for 0 mana
Commander. Duel and multiplayer
theres more leaks
but i cba to find post them
just needed to post this one in particular cus its fucking sick
I love that
doesnt cost blue mana smh i'll never play mtg again
why would it cost blue
[[Counterbalance]]
it has water in the artwork

(also i didnt know counterbalance existed lol)

For 3 mana this seems a bit dicey
Unless you're playing 0-1 drops or repeatable 0 mana token generation this is 5-6 mana on average to lose 1 life create a treasure
Def seems abusable but probs commander card?
In Christmas land, you play it with [[Gravecrawler]] and [[Blood Artist]]
T3 win
Also the uncommon from thunder junction that lets you recast it if you commit a crime.
at the same time, you could be running [[phyrexian alter]], and i feel like it would be way better
treasures have other synergies such as artifact and they stick around for later turns though so you don't have to use it all at once
Yeah you can spread the treasures out
Not modern legal
sorry, i dont pay enough attention to modern to know what's legal there
can't wait for artifact lands to get unbanned now they've printed and added all this new artifact hate into modern
oh also
B&R announcement tomorrow
Time to ban a rotating card from standard
ive come up with a really stupid idea for a custom card im making for my dnd character
a saga commander as in, a commander that is a saga
Ban evolving wilds from pioneer, when we said no fetchlands we meant it
yeah so this means you can crack treasures and burn your opp
[[treasure vault]] might be interesting too
Creature — Human Artificer
Fabricate 3 (When this creature enters the battlefield, put three +1/+1 counters on it or create three 1/1 colorless Servo artifact creature tokens.)
Whenever an artifact you control is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, target opponent loses life equal to Marionette Master's power.
1/3
Wait this is ridiculous power creep
Like what the fuck
That's SO MUCH better than blood artist
i don't agree
I guess it doesn't hit for opponent's creatures too
blood artist gains you life which matters a lot
But blood artist is rarely doing that anyways
Hits each opponent too for whenever that matters
Yeah this is "each opponent" and also includes artifacts
merfolk eating so good
It's WAY better than blood artist
blood artist goes infinite with that goblin from yesterday and this doesn't
Provided you're up 1 life, this does
You just have to be 1 life above any opponent(s)
okay but what if you aren't though
i'm not saying this card is bad but it isn't strictly better than blartist
blartist gaining life is pretty relevant
It also brings a body that you can sacc with it
Yeah the lifegain is the biggest thing you're losing
But I think counting artifacts, coming with a sacc, and hitting each opponent is enough upside this is usually better
You can also just play both
most decks are only looping creatures to sac anyway ¯_(ツ)_/¯
it's just a way to broaden the horizons of the card
the modern horizons, one might say
When the brain is surge
sigh
