#Magic the Gathering

The point is moreso the wording
Magic can at least check the source of spells or abilities
aparently so
i knew the me from a few months back did some research
Does still have the problem of not working with damage
it's still a whole lot of words for an effect that is not typically used
Which is why you might need a writearound
Is lorien revealed actually good?
[[lorien revealed]]
uhhh
not really but it landcycles so if you can do stuff with sorceries and instants in grave it might not be bad
thinking like uuhh
[[capricious hellraiser]]
Creature — Phyrexian Dragon
This spell costs
less to cast if you have nine or more cards in your graveyard.
Flying
When Capricious Hellraiser enters the battlefield, exile three cards at random from your graveyard. Choose a noncreature, nonland card from among them and copy it. You may cast the copy without paying its mana cost.
4/4
man im a nice dude i bought the secret lair set for streetfighter for a friends birthdays but the vendor send the wrong packagewith singles worth so much more
Ah this like weird youtube shorts thing was recommending it
"must have in blue decks for bommandr!!"

I mean like
it's ancestral recall for 5 mana
which isn't good
but again, if you can abuse the landcycling it probably isn't bad
Gotcha
Being 1 to islandcycle is decent and the draw 3 is probably better than any of the other islandcycler
well yeah of course
no other landcyclers have been 1 mana
which is why oliphaunt and generous ent are now in LE
bomb for pauper cube
The question becomes do I cut a land for it?
Since it’s like a mdfc
it isnt an mdfc and it isnt a full land. i would only cut it if you are sure to cast the actual card too
Well I know it isn't one, I'm saying it's comparable to one
yea what im saying myself is that not being an actual mdfc matters
how?
big point being it costs 1 mana to find the land
think of them if anything like a slow fetch
which isn't too big of a difference of a tapped mdfc land
it can be though since those tapped mdfcs are way more castable
I mean more castable isn't the question here
I'm saying it's very comparable to a tapped mdfc land 1 to 1 even functionally
for formats where it matters such as opp agent or aven mindcensor
hmm how describe
the basis of what im saying tho is that they cannot replace a land
I can say these are better against non basic hate
how to describe why hm
yeah hm
like ok the reason this cant replace a land is consistency
if your deck cant afford to miss a land drop type of deal
they help this outcome
but ideally u wanna use em as a spell
yea definitely, you don't want to run them if you don't plan on casting them
I wouldn’t be opposed to a 3 of that card for 1 land trade since you’re gonna be able to draw later in the game depending on the deck and format and the land fetch is good enough
I hate that it’s a sorcery though
5 mana draw three is good. But it's also kinda win more? Like...you have to be in a comfortable enough position that taking a turn off to cast it is viable. Which is not trivial
Actually a 2:1 of removing lands is probably fine since it can also get shocks and sanctuary
A bit more aggressive than the 1 cmc cantrips that cut lands for the chance of finding one with them
but what spell do u cut then to make room
i also forgot about sanctuary since that cards not legal in so many formats
Fully depends on the deck I’d say
Sadly it’s not legal in the format Id think it’d be the most interesting in (pioneer)
Since it’s more than just a tapped land, it’s more of an instant speed cantrip that always grabs an island
why do I still see [[misery's shadow]] in standard
this card feels like the biggest fuckin bait I've ever seen
like you can grow it big vs monored but you have to pour all that fuckin mana into it and you essentially waste turns if you're not just using leftover mana to make it big
dimensional fissure kid
the first effect just seems useless to me too unless you're expecting to see a ton of tenacious underdog/orzhov midrange
d fissure in a meta where so few cards care about gy

also this mwm really ain't it
keeping it to one fuckin set makes everything feel terrible lmao
22 turn game
@twilit canyon @clever sun do either of you have a deck list for the event?
I'm assuming nazgul something probably just dominates
Just got heavily outresourced by the one ring
ah, is every deck in alchemy just on the one ring
yeah one ring is pretty format warping
Modern too
strangely enough time walk that draws isn't bad
dumbing the card down a lot there though
eh I got to see the effect on modern
looking at results from yesterday's modern league, and i don't see the one ring on any of the undefeated decks
I do see [[call of the ring]]
and a lot of orcish bowmasters
I mean
one ring is also like mega expensive on mtgo
and I imagine rental services will be out of them or be hard to get
call of the ring is cool in jund
same as bowmasters
spam nazgul
the one ring is just on the cusp of op
alchemy doesnt has enough answers to it outside of white and red
I’m ngl, idt I like the format in alchemy if that’s what it is rn
But i only played 3 matches, so let me keep playing before I make a judgment
the one ring is very played in modern and historic and legacy
alchemy is much weaker than all of em so it will have higher rep

Yeah Alchemy has a problem with The One Ring
That’s mostly what I was referring to
Alchemy doesn’t seem equipped to handle the one ring
(Pun intended)
Cast it into the Fire
Leyline Binding
Fragment Reality
That's it outside of counters
Misty mentioned somewhere (DMs for sure) that Ceremonious Rejection stocks have gone up
[[ceremonious rejection]]
Sadly not Alchemy legal
Eh, I’m not overly worried outside of alchemy, they got way more ways to handle it than us
Though historic will probably feel it hard also
I'm gonna be sad if they nerf it for alchemy and it affects hbrawl
not that the card isn't super strong in that format too
idt you can nerf it without ruining the flavor of it tbh
If this was just a normal magic card, sure. But idt you can effectively nerf it without taking away the meaning of "The One Ring"
You can make it lose life every time you tap and at each upkeep
That would keep the flavor of it (maybe enhance it) and reduce the amount of times you can safely utilize it since you’d be losing… let me do the math on it
1 card: 2 life
2 cards (3 cumulative): 7 life cumulative
3 cards (6 cumulative): 15 life cumulative
STONKS DAY
alchemy has just opened the door for more irresponsible card designs tbh
There was a time before boomer jund. Mister Jund himself, Reid Duke, helps us tell the tale that midrange took to get to the top, and the eventual path that lead to where it is now.
Find all the decklists mentionned here: https://bit.ly/445z6vq
0:56 The Archetypes of Magic
3:36 What is Midrange?
6:32 Combo Winter
10:26 The Rock
17:35 The Birth...
Tempo deck
midrange actually
Same thing smh
set was designed for modern and up. it only got added to alchemy/historic later.
tbh it shouldn't have been alchemy legal from the go
they should have done what they've done in the past
historic sude
and release an alchemy version of the set
They couldn't have their premier crossover set not legal on arena
Wouldn't have made them money that way
also disagree just make it historic legal
i'm not saying not legal in arena, historic is played more than alchemy, so that's your selling point for arena
though with the knowledge we are getting 2 anthologies later this month
you could have also had it brawl legal
It was definitely a business decision decided too late to make a historic horizons version
alchemy has more players than historic
alchemy is behind standard but ahead of historic which is far ahead of explorer
It goes:
-Standard
-Alchemy
-Historic
-Explorer
-Brawl iirc
no ranked ladder
And they knew it couldn't be standard legal, so they just pushed it to the closest they could
bro, komi plays brawl
People play every format on arena
and komi is a celebrity
Brawl isn't like dead
(i joke)
It's just not super popular
its just not the most played
i play 0 explorer
tbh
but i play every other format
I still play explorer because gruul is decent in it
But yeah, Arena makes too much money not to put the set in it
So it was definitely a last minute business decision
anyways, yeah, alchemy is a shit show rn imo
eh they added mh2 so i wasnt surprised they added lotr
who was the guy that was complaining about modern being midrange central? because that's actually way more accurate of alchemy rn
some of mh2 at least
lol what
The best deck right now is combo
somebody was complaining here saying that mh1 ruined modern
I mean even ignoring the wonky digital only effects alchemy cards I'll see are shit like a 1 mana 2/2 with upside
and we were just like "lol"
And that's wild to me
i dont mind midrange being everywhere but i still believe people dont actually like midrange and just say that after they lose to combo
Mh ruined modern monetarily but it saved it as a format
But that was because the powercreeo for the set was off the fucking charts
I think Modern is arguably the healthiest format of any TCG rn
tbf they centralized it because a ton of the cards they needed to make the format more interactive was shoved into 2 sets
idk if they couldve spread it out through multiple standard sets
Bring evokementals to standard
and then they printed the best midrange card in the third installment
bring Dauthi Voidwalker to standard
Best control card too
best aggro card too
Aggro plays it?
yep, some variants of burn are on it now
Jesus
wait what card we talking about
I feel like it’ll eat a ban if aggro is playing it too
tbf they're also experimenting with [[parantir]]
No card found for “parantir”
the one ring is more impactful in aggro or combo than control tbh
it's 4 mana but modern is currently slow enough
yeah but i'd rather have the ring in aggro than control since they can actually close out a game before the ring's downside is anywhere close
not teferi
jace has been on his way out for ages
but hero of dominaria is still busted
especially with counterspell
Hero of dominaria, now that a name I haven’t heard in a long time
They don’t cut all of it
and yeah aggro does decent with the ring to win b4 it matters
But it went down to like 1 copy from 2
yea with that much draw u dont need ur wincon to be that many copies
can't shit like Hammer Time punish you hard for relying on the one ring though?
just run 4 time raveler to have an easy time vs rhinos and living end
If you run no removal sure but drawing three will probably get you one
yes kinda
subtlety and solitude do a lot of work
I heard rhinos are starting to side Questing to kill under ring so I guess it also works against teferi lol
same as counterspell at some key points
speaking of hammer time though
Titan is running questing beast instead of the random big thing flex slots because of the ring and to not be blanked on their combo turn
[[forge anew]] isn't good enough right
Enchantment
When Forge Anew enters the battlefield, return target Equipment card from your graveyard to the battlefield.
As long as it's your turn, you may activate equip abilities any time you could cast an instant.
You may pay
rather than pay the equip cost of the first equip ability you activate during each of your turns.
Ring Vs hammer time is a toss up
especially the krasis version
Forge Anew got tested then immediately removed lmao
It can be but I don’t think anyone is playing it
yeah forge is cheeks
I figured the 3 mana was too steep of a cost tbh
Like the only cute thing about it is letting hammer time play around chalice
They’re already not too bad Vs chalice because of sfm
there was another forge anew deck i saw in modern that was kinda meme
And saga
on top of white being one of the artifact removal colors
forge anew is just overkill
Forge anew was a meme deck with a bunch of living weapons and sfm iirc
doesnt really save u from what u already beat before
found it https://youtu.be/pPwQ6y610Ok
Can the new Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth rare Forge Anew make massive equipment like Worldslayer and Argentum Armor real in Modern thanks to its ability to reanimate them and equip them for free? Let's find out!
Today's video is brought to you by Card Kingdom. You can pick up some MTG cards (and help support the show) at https://www...
doesnt hedge vs bad match ups
Mtggoldfish
I enjoy both mtggoldfish and cardmarket's content tbh
they're at least very real with me (unlike literally 99% of commander channels)
BROKEN STAPLE
I like cardmarket since they have an actual competitor giving advice and adding value to their channel, mtggoldfish sort of fell off
I feel they used to have good info but now it’s just “broken commander staple” and this -random new thing- is too good in modern”
mtggoldfish actually got me on the Boros Equipment deck I'm currently playing in standard, and then I just made changes based on what I know the deck is weak to
Revisited my battles deck for standard, fun times
Turns out my locals has started doing Magic. Commander format for now and some fellow players hopped on it. What are some good decks to aim for or to make currently? I know the basics of magic as I used to play lol
👁️
The best way to get into commander is to just buy a precon
Pick whichever piques your interest
Oh no he’s here too
Any recent recommendations?
I want to say the lord of the rings ones but they may be overpriced atm
Yeah they are unfort
Oof
You should look into a precon or colors that you like, playstyle that youre feeling
Meh I don’t mind since it’s a precon. And yeah I liked blue or black when I messed around with Magic. But I know commander decks have like 3 colors lol
I have no idea what that is but since two people said it go blue farm
Blue farm always
lmao same here but yolo blue farm it is
ah i thought it was some product name lmao but i see its like a whole ass deck
not the weirdest magic deck name
the commander(s) are frequently [[tymna the weaver]] and [[kraum, ludevic's opus]]
👩🍳
yea kinda
halfling has been insane at times
but maybe i want more instant speed removal
bowmasters and shelly both do combo things with timetwister so im not keen on cutting either

together we will turn this from a decent combo pile to a meance to society
ooh we gettin roped

where is young blud goin
deep fried
served with a side of coleslaw
its incredible what going from 4 to 3 and tweaking some numbers with a real sideboard does to a deck
Too early to call it Imo because Misty is one of the most powerful players
but this deck is kinda gas
updated
The answer really is that it depends on the people playing
Yeah you can play Blue Farm but if everyone is on upgraded precons
No one will have fun
Not even the blue farm player
Sure
But build Blue Farm
Y'all I hate Misty FR LOL
"I ran Sarulf as a one of just to test it"
and she drew it every time
Its like giving a new yugioh player Danger DW to play against Blue-Eyes sds
the math works in my favor bc im simply better
Variance will kill her soon trust
nuh uh
FYM NUH UH
LOL
YOU LOST CONNECTION
ill reconnect
joewarida
that match was 100% mine to win
look at this fucking hand
i win this game
every
time
fatal push orcish holy
The all-star here is Rusko for sure
commander is a casual format so play what you think is fun. If you need help picking your commander I can help
Yeah I wouldn’t mind some suggestions and a good sealed starter deck to start out with. Blue Farm feels like I gotta buy a bunch of singles lol
There are the new LOTR preconstructed decks for Commander to help start you out
the warhammer precons were good and are cheap now no?
If LOTR isn't your cup of tea then March of The Machines preconstructed decks are fairly cheap
Because they're fairly shit but
Buy Magic: The Gathering Cards, Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards, Pokémon Cards, One Piece CCG, Digimon TCG, Flesh and Blood, Lorcana, CCG Supplies, and more.
Alternatively, wait for commander masters decks to be out
Oh when is this and what is it lol
The commander masters set is coming out soon which has reprints of commander staples, the decks are based around 4 themes: eldritch horrors, enchantments, planes walkers and slivers
There’s no guarantee the commander masters decks will be good though
They're a premium product with likely higher value cards in but we don't know for sure
Tbh if you want the best precon that’s play out the box ready with limited upgrades
Than the zombie one is probably your best bet
If you are considering the Lotr ones

August 4, and I can get up the 4 themes up real quick
You got superfriends, Eldrazzi, enchantments, and slivers to pick from
The eldrazi have always been neat sounding to me. They any good in commander?
Man this art style just doesn't really work?
It really comes down to whether or not the character looks cool alone
But all the regular women just look the same in it
Neheb looks good tho
Good enough yea but people won’t like you
Explorer Anthology
And Historic Anthology
Explorer Elves now has all the pieces of Pioneer Elves
chord is huge for yawgmoth in historic
sounds good to me
real
they are alright
lord of the rings if frodo was a tear asunder
not the most common tribal commander
come to think of it, what are like the least hated commanders/playstyles in edh?
if I ever do get into paper magic I don't wanna be the villain at the table lol
isn't this bigger for hpauper btw
If you play 0 interaction you’re golden.
But you’ll probably never win
stax or land destruction
And baral counterspell tribal
oh u know what i read that as most hated
least hated?
nothing tbh
casual edh groups cannot reach a consensus on what an ethical deck is
Oh shit me too
Err group hug ig?
A deck with 99 forests and some old vanilla legend that's more than one colour?
casual edh pods hating literally everything is a big part of why i don't like edh
i'm not interested in a format where people will get mad at me for interacting with their cards
this list would never end
I legit played with a guy who gets mad when you... Stop him from winning? Like bro did you think I would let you win?
yes
Man acts like he's never read the word counter in his life
Don’t forget sol ring
Nothing is more offensive to a casual player than a t1 sol ring
for some reason a lot of casual players have this mentality that if they can't win 100% of the time then it's bad game dsign
I’ve legitly dropped down jeweled lotus’ before that never got anywhere near a reaction as a t1 sol ring
and then there's those players who's all "my deck isn't that good but I win most of the games because I'm just good at politics"
my friend you're pub stomping
stfu
3 mana now Vs 2 mana every turn is all they see
sol ring i can understand being bothered by but that's the kind of thing you need to talk about before the game starts rather than after it happens
I mainly just dislike mana vault, crypt and jeweled because of their price tag, but that's a personal problem and I don't bring that hate to the table
(can't proxy at my lgs)
wotc refusing to make them affordable also ticks me off
Literally nothing
If it wins a game, casuals complain
Tbf sol ring should have been banned at the start of edh
But I get they wanted it to be the only format you can play the card in
It's just such a massive tempo swing
It's why I like collector ouphie

You get to pitch a new system that isn't entirely random for choosing who goes first in Magic. It could be anything from slightly in control (cut to middle card cost) to deckbuilding (higher total deck mana cost) to its own minigame (bidding life).
What do you pitch?
#wotcstaff
218
my pitch: clash and whoever wins the clash goes first
still sufficiently random but not entirely random and incentivizes running high cost cards more often
Play to win made the best point in regards to this; Casual pods, do better in policing your play groups if you don't want sol ring to be played, the card is perfectly fine in cedh.
They should do it the good ole fashioned way
Trial by combat
the commander banlist should realistically have like 6 cards on it
ante cards
dexterity cards
invoke prejudice and other culturally offensive cards
silver bordered cards
Honestly, I want [[Braids, Cabal Minion]] back
Surte there's the magical christmas land where you play her t1 and she locks the opponents out of the game
But there's also thoracle combo
i think the only power level ban should be lutri
Leovold and Flash too tbh
And honestly, the golos ban is totally fine
Not from a power level reason, but from a "wow he outclasses so many commanders and is boring as hell" reason
Oh I forgot about [[Hullbreacher]]
What a fucking ridiculous card
Hullbreacher should have said "instead they create a Treasure Token"
they dont ban for power level but they ban for power level
Tolarian Academy, the Moxen, Fastbound, and Rofelos probably should stay banned too
Golos was banned because of his versatility
He was one of the most played commanders because he just did any theme better than the dedicated theme
And he's a boring 5c value engine
So that just sucks
the problem i have with the banlist is they say edh is where you can play the entire card pool and every style of play is welcome
Yeah but you can't have every card legal without it causing issues
I mean hell, there's bans in legacy and restrictions in vintage
they also have rule 0
which they misuse entirely
cards that are unfun to play against can just as easily be legal in the format and then house ruled out
Rule 0 should honestly be the other way around
It's way easier to go "hey can I play this deck with a banned card in it" than "hey can we all ban sol ring"
rule 0 cannot be used in sanctioned play
For sure
But rule 0 basically doesn't matter for commander as is
Having to find a new shop/group rn, rule 0 discussions are useless
Everyone goes "Oh my deck is like okay power level and I do/don't care about proxies"
And then you do something that wins you the game and they get annoyed
Rule 0 doesn't do anything unless you literally show them the entire decklist
casual edh gets toxic really quickly
i remember one time
i played a pod with my deck, combo off opponent gets salty
i ask to borrow a deck
he lends me wall tribal
he gets salty when i win with it
Yesterday, I played with a pod I hadn't played with. The commanders were as follows:
-4c Omnath
-Edgar Markov
-Evelyn, the Covetous
So I bring Elsha because that reads to me as high power level commanders
Edgar and 4c omnath guy threw a fit when I top comboed despite no interaction for the 3 turns it took me to set it up
Evelyn guy made me play out the combo to show the other guys they were dead (infinite storm count grapeshot/brain freeze)
And even then, 4c omnath goes "God I hate combo decks"
Like bro, my combo takes 3 turns to set up. You had plenty of time to stop me with any form of removal
Evelyn player did actually use Olivia Markov to steal Elsha for a turn, made me waste a Blink of An Eye to get her back
I read Elsha as Alesha, there names are so close
or cedh
Evelyn player was by far the only person at the table who was competent at all
evelyn should also be a combo deck in most cases no?
But the other two just got so pissy that I had a win
It is, yeah
she is the newest grixis mean-girl club member
I had my combo before he did
worldgorger?
But he was also intentionally durdling and [[Spark Double]] copying Evelyn to steal parts of the other decks for the funny (and to try and hit my combo pieces)
I'll probably play with that dude again. He laughed really hard when Evelyn hit my [[Nexus of Fate]]
i need to nerf my casual deck tbh
I'd assume so
I was gonna bring Roghark/Yoshimaru to the next game but 4c Omnath guy threw a fit because he wanted to play Syr Gwen and live more than 2 turns
Honestly part of me wants to build a group hug no wincon deck for the two kings and just play that when people complain
i also wanna build a hug deck
i will lose my last remaining drop of hope for casual when somebody complains about it
Literally sit there and just let everyone draw 20 cards every turn
which is absolutely gonna happen
"I was gonna win but your stupid deck let him draw the card he needed to beat me"
"you ruined the game by giving that player who won a bunch of stuff"
spark double?
Stax is group hug because it indirectly lets everyone draw more cards
oh that evelyn list is 100% not tuned
I'm like 99% sure he runs it as a filler card
None of the lists were tuned
But he was the only person at the table playing removal
ive taken to just building extraordinarily weak decks
But spark double is a moderately funny interaction, and my tivit list I'm building is guilty of playing voting cards for the sake of moderately funny interactions so I vibe with it
Elsha is fully optimized, Ghen is fully optimized, Dog/Bold is fully optimized
most casuals just want to win for free anyway
Running less than optimial shit elsewhere is fine
What's really funny is casuals HATE dog/bold too
Like dude, it literally wins via attacking with a big vanilla
Cedh tables love seeing dog/bold btw
People like seeing actual combat matters decks and are surprised how many counter spells you get in boros
And it's always fun to [[Angel's Grace]] the thoracle
Instant
Split second (As long as this spell is on the stack, players can't cast spells or activate abilities that aren't mana abilities.)
You can't lose the game this turn and your opponents can't win the game this turn. Until end of turn, damage that would reduce your life total to less than 1 reduces it to 1 instead.
Oh yeah 100%
Actually now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure 4c Omnath guy was the same guy who complained about proxies and dropped an actual gaea's cradle on me last time I went to that shop
casual is the most toxic shit pit you can get dunked into
Yup
So I think 4c Omnath dude just has issues with anything that isn't his exact deck
I found a way to get uninvited to casual groups btw
I mean, I just bring out stax
Play brutal Control decks with mass everything destruction
as i said i made somebody salty with their own deck before
The collective groans when you start doing stax stuff usually gets you uninvited
aka [[Keranos, God of Storms]]
Legendary Enchantment Creature — God
Indestructible
As long as your devotion to blue and red is less than seven, Keranos isn't a creature.
Reveal the first card you draw on each of your turns. Whenever you reveal a land card this way, draw a card. Whenever you reveal a nonland card this way, Keranos deals 3 damage to any target.
6/5
And like for context, my stax deck is [[Ghen]]
No no
He's not a very common stax commander
You need them to never want to play EDH again
Keranos is hitting the table
[[Obliterate]] will be placed on the stack
ive actually made somebody quit edh before
multiple people actually
one was in a cedh tournament
guy sits down round 1 with foiled out azami deck
i win the pod
round 2 we're in the same pod again
Azami in this day and age? At an event?
I think it's so funny that 2/3 cedh decks are not very common cedh commanders so people really enjoy playing with them there, and then casual decks hate Ghen and fucking [[Yoshimaru]]
this was over a decade ago
This card literally doesn't do anything
Okay even a decade ago Azami is was so mid
The funniest interaction I had was a guy who got mad at me for playing both my commanders t1 with yoshimaru, made us all shuffle up to play again since "he had such a clear lead", and then I did it again
Surprise, as long as I keep a land with a single white source in it I can play them t1 every time
ironically another azami player killed me in a later round
Commander 2013 we had Jeleva
My favorite casual EDH tale is keeping a table trapped
Got invited to a casual pod
I said "nah no thanks not into casual EDH much."
They insisted because they wanted the fourth
I said fine
but no conceding or I leave
You know how salty an entire table gets when I use Deadeye Navigator with Nicol Bolas the Ravager to keep them hellbent as I pick off their lands one by one?
they could have just all conceded at once
One of the members finally got tired of the loop and let the table go by having me leave
That was the funny part. They wanted to keep playing. I trapped them in the game.
Because "well you won't set that up next time"
"We'll draw removal soon"
I gave them a chance with Timetwister
that actually reminds me of my favorite casual pod possibly ever
Granted I had Narset in play so they drew nothing
But they got about 20 cards in to their second deck before one of them cried uncle
Oh yeah, 4c omnath guy complained about a timetwister without narset out last night too
Like bro, I literally just gave you 7 new cards to interact with me with
Your fault for being tapped out and not running any artifact removal
i was at a whataburger or some shit at 3 am and i see people playing edh and they have a fucking emrakul out so im like yo can i play and can i use braids
and theyre like absolutely
i get braids out turn 2
Honestly surprised we dont have very many commander masters spoilers yet
game goes for a long time eventually i manage to find a finisher
they look at me and say
that's the most weve ever had our shit stomped good fucking game
hand shakes all around
i saw them months later at the lgs and they were like "oh shit its braids!"
I want that to happen to me
Just at some random place and see people participating in the same hobby as me
And we immediately start playing
Like a pokemon battle
One of my favorite EDH games was with Keranos
It was a cEDH pod
Everyone signed up for it
I manage to resolve Obliterate real early with rituals
Setting everyone (but me) back a while
Now here's where it gets funny
No one sees a land the rest of the game
We keep playing spells of course this is cEDH
But no land is played the entire rest of the game
I eventually lost to Najeela beats as the Najeela player managed to land her through my Force of Will through their own Force of Will
But it was such a fascinating game and one of my favorites
ive had great cedh games too ofc
one of my faves was cazur ukkima beats
won that one vs a half staxy/midrange pod
1st player was on tymna sakashima bears, 2nd person was on gaaiv stax, 3rd was on 5c sisay stax
I've yet to have a cedh game where I've went 'wow that was awesome'
lots of things happen in this slow grindy game as ppl fight for board control and accrue card advantage
but
sisay player reveals his tech
[[ashiok, dream render]]
-1s
exiles my food chain, thoracle, hermit druid among my top 4
next turn -4s on gaaiv
exiles nexus of fate, azor, venser, and powers
-4s on sakatymna
-1
ur not gonna believe it
but he exiles citadel, thoracle, and mnemonic among other
so now just sisay has wincons
now this would be fine
if it wasnt for the fact that both myself and sakatymna run praetors grasp
i was first to cast it
i steal lab man from sisay
sakatymna was next
he steals najeela
theres just one wincon left and its breach
or there would be
if gaaiv didnt resolve rest in peace
the rest of the game became an even bigger shitshow
of actually playing fair and honest creature magic
the game got really spicy when sisay player resolved umezawa's jitte
we had to play some insane games to dodge
eventually, sisay player dies to misthollow griffin and aven mindcensor beats
i tried to go for lab man but gaaiv player stopped the resolution of labman (i was patient and resolved it before trying to play consultation)
so the board got real awkward from there as gaaiv put up a ton of walkers
we stopped master of time but hero of dominaria was threatening to ult
ukkima had to tickle teferi until it was dead while sakatymna player scarily climbed up to relevant life
My favorite memory is when I used to be active and dominant in modern in multiple shops that whenever I went to sign up or go to a random or new shop people already heard about me
fortunately for me
no one remembered ukkima's text
and gaaiv player, in an effort to save teferi, committed a lethal mistake
he cyc rifted for 2 mana target ukkima
ukkima had amassed a few counters thanks to cazur
4 counters to be precise
gaaiv player was at a very convenient 5 life
from there, it was just sakatymna player and i
and maneuvering my cfes to block/attack and ukkima and cazur protected, i eventually managed to chain of vapor my own 12/12 ukkima for lethal
i was at 2 life there too
that game took around
24 turns?
easily 24
this actually happened to me at the last cedh tournament i went to
i asked a lady where the sign up sheet was and for a brief second a look of genuine fear was on her face
apparently she plays regularly with some old friends of mine from back when i had cultivated the comp scene around this area
we then got paired in round one which was funny
i countered her intuition and then casted my own for the win

Chaos emperor dragon
So there's listings for the new UB stuff, no info yet other than product type
Assassin's Creed is a draftable set for some reason
Final Fantasy is not
what
that
what?
Assassin's creed isn't exactly rife with characters if you exclude the historical people
I completely forgot this was a thing that was happening
December 31st 2024
I'm gonna be honest here, with every other universes beyond we've had, I could at least somewhat see it
I'm assuming that's a placeholder date
But assassin's creed
I don't what's in assassincs creed that fills up a set
Final fantasy has hundreds of characters
but ass creed?
Doesn't make sense to me, considering AC doesn't feel like it has enough shit for a full set
Also, I hate cards with real world actors on them (the DND movie cards) and this is gonna have actors AND locations
Like who's screaming over being able to play ezio in mtg
Not sure, but even some of the models used in the games are based on real actors
I'm more forgiving of the secret lair ones since those are literally just get it if you want
But a whole booster box has implications for lgs'
It depends on which games they pull from and stuff. But it's gonna feel super jarring to hear "I tap Italy to play Leonardo Da Vinci"
final fantasy also listed as draft boosters
yea I'm curious on if they're going to put in real life people
Wait theyre doing UB FF?
I also don't really get why Dr who is getting one but at least I can see that more since there's a lot more substance there
Like if it's all the gods and assassin creed characters sure but I can't imagine that filling up a set
... god I hope theyre giving us an Ardyn card
But honestly, FF being the draftable one would fit way more
Yea
Also Dr. Who is getting a set too, not just commander decks?
just collector booster and commander set
i somehow doubt any of these will make it as full sets. maybe this is a hint to a full ub draft experience
so it's sort of like warhammer except instead of collecter commander set it's collector booster
They've already confirmed both are happening
as sets
They just didn't confirm the form of what's in either
then its still likely they dont release as a set
yeah
idr hearing anything about ff or ac
oh those yea no news
I just don't think assassin's creed and doctor who (if it does have boxes) can support full sets
Like the overlap is there
i can see it being they release a whole ub set as a last chance type reprint
But it's a niche at best overlap
I'm guessing the dr who collector boosters are just alternate versions of cards in the dr who commander sets
They were confirmed a while back
But no info on if they're just commander decks or not
final fantasy works since most final fantasy settings to my knowledge wont look out of place in any magic universe
ac is the one that might be trippy
Well
Yeah final fantasy is gonna be baller
but thatd just be magic going back to its roots lol
Yeah final fantasy has some stuff that stands out, especially the sci-fi games
But XIII and XV for example are quite modern
But most of final fantasy is well, fantasy, and it fits
We both know that it's gonna be mainly ff7
XV straight up features a mercedes basically
Let's be real
It really depends on what they pull from considering XV is about driving around America in a car
Eh, funny enough Im not sure about that
a mercedes would be outdated for kamigawa now
Im thinking itll be a lot of 1
Given that thats the most DnD of the final fantasies
I can't see assassin's Creed fitting at all
i think they touch upon ff7
I know that assassin's Creed has supernatural elements
capenna has xander driving whatever that is
But it really doesn't fit
Assassin's Creed is SUPER real-world focused, despite being sci-fi and fantasy
the super naturla elements fits well imo. gods and magical artifacts
the assassins?
I guess?
Every game uses real people and the settings are "Italy" and "Boston"
yea assassins creed sounds like it will have the most awkward time trying to be a set
Mfs being asked to name a ff1 character that isn't garland, Gilgamesh or warrior of light
just like kamigawa
Kamigawa is the only one this wouldnt look totally out of place
Gilgamesh is not in FF1
Also Lich
tbh urza also builds mechs this advanced
Again FF1 is very DnD, they literally have DnD enemies in it
and alara too
Cards like "George Washington" and "Leonardo Da Vinci" are gonna be really stupid tbh
I dont count that

we are back to quoting from historical sources in magic again
But yeah FF set sounds interesting
finally the boomers have won
I hope they get the FF artist for it
ac sounds like a struggle to make work
AC legit feels like the tone doesn't work at all
First set to sell a billion boosters
tone can work especially with how magic settings exist nowdays
So long as they let me get my boy I'm golden
Like I know Portal and Arabian Nights happened, but those were considered mistakes in that element
ixalan, capenna, kamigawa mostly
ravnica too
capenna, kamigawa, ravnica have focus on urban setting
Any time they reference Arabian Nights, it's rectonned into being a regular plane now and they're slowly changing the names when they can for the cards
... wait I just realised
How long till we get the mandatory p5 crossover
They confirmed no UB planeswalkers right?
I mean there's a big difference between urban setting and literally Boston
kinda
Yeah
But see, that'll kill the game
That means no Gilgamesh
Bro we are getting an ass creed box
this doesnt mean they will make a boston or italy land
Box will be the first to sell -1 packs
Actually a boston land would be hilarious
it would be
Oh the game tone is def dead considering that shit yeah, but P5 crossovers are the touch of death
New York land that gives your creatures trample
Bro we already have the new York land
We do?
Isn't this mechanically what you wanted?
But yeah, no matter the form for AC, it's gonna be tonally wack
Misty fuck you
There's too many real people in the games as main characters
Lmao yeah that works
Usually at least one per assassin as their sidekick
Mfs when I pull out this (it... Idk fuckin draws cards and makes my life total unable to change)
Cards of Washington, Da Vinci, and Tesla are guaranteed
Wait are you not just getting trolled is this gonna be a full set
What if it's just a commander deck(s) or cards appearing in a collectors booster
Even if it's just commander boosters we still get the three
There's way too many real people that are important to AC games
And the odds they don't pick the literal three most popular assassins for them is basically nonexistent
those real world basic lands look suuuper nice though
they're just too pricey for me
Look if this is real now I just want a Fate crossover
That's Artoria Pendragon to you SIR
Oh no I didn't even consider all the fate altars
my apologies my liege
But yeah, it's gotta be Ezio, Altair, Connor, and ???
That game bombed
the last three assassins creed also has mythological creatures as boss fights so those would fit magic too at least
odyssey and origins had legit egyptian and greek gods
so ie amonkhet and theros
It's definitely the most fitting but I figure they'll just do the 3 most obvious games and maybe a templar deck?
that's true
What if it's a non-canon set where an Assassin is sent to these magic worlds by accident
The odds we get a George Washington card aren't 100% but they're like 75%
I'd say there's 0 chance we don't get Da Vinci
Da Vinci or Washington?
It's like outwardly stated
They should do Fate Da Vinci so that phobes get mad since Fate Da Vinci is trans coded as fuck
Oh god they could do the templar deck as whatever their name is from Odyssey
cult of cosmos
That gives them 4 assassins and technically a templar
Nah the cult are actually the proto-assassins
The name makes me laugh because it reminds me of fairyl odd parents cosmos lol
The boring player character founds the templars
I honestly don't remember much lol
just that she passed the stick to modern day chick
I'm glad she's out of the story now
How exactly is fate da vinci "trans coded"?
Origins comes later and founds the assassins
Odyssey comes earlier and she founds the templars
she turned herself to monalisa because she thought it was the ideal human iirc
It's dumb as hell
That's what they want you to think
Then you kill them and it's "oh actually you're the templars"
I picked the kiss the cosmos leader option
Oh so add Socrates to the "real people that have cards" list
We'll probably also get the pope, Karl Marx, and Blackbeard
Yep Fate's Da Vinci is normally male but when summoned as a heroic spirit, appears in the form of the Mona Lisa entirely because "it is the ideal human form"
Marx is your weird sidekick guy in Syndicate
Honestly? I have no clue how you'd make him work here
my communist friend is mad marx in game isn't an accurate portrayal of him lmao
Introduce a new age of Magic players to Communism
He hasn't written the communist manifesto at the time
Your character helps him come up with communism, it's stupid as hell
So I have no clue how they'd make him work outside of "everyone makes treasure tokens"
my friend was all, in game marx doesn't want to kill people, while his manifesto says it "needs to be painted by blood"
It's accurate enough if you consider it's also before Marx wrote the manifesto
But it's also a world where there's magic space rocks and evil aliens
Assassin's Creed is a bad franchise
I'm hopeful for the next one
Yeah it's one of the few elements of the games that would tbh
That's what people have been saying since 3
"Oh the next one will actually be good guys"
at this point I just play it cause I'm too invested in the series
I know black flag was actually good, but the batting average is like 2 good games per every 7 bad games

let's be real assassins creed black flag wasn't good but pirate simulator black flag was
That's true. Honestly, I don't even think 2 was that good?
It was fine, but it wasn't as great as people thought
it was fine imo it's just the best one so people looks back on it fondly
Yeah it's the best one but compared to other games, it's okay
Reminder it came out a year before uncharted 3
I never had a playstation so I never got to enjoy it
So yeah, Assassin's Creed has always been a mid franchise
And it's super weird they're one that's getting magic cards, considering the tone
we are getting so close to precon reveals
The first one just a lasting impact because it was so unique
like parkouring around ancient cities is just really cool
Yeah 1 was really unique for the time
And now they're just action rps set in random historical time periods
10 is pretty average yeah
UB got a lot more
And the great $20 ones from Kaldheim only got 5
ah I guess I just got used to ub
UB got like 20 and everything else was reskinned to fit the settings
the 4 themes as a reminder will be
Zombie Enchantments
Sliver
Eldrazi
Super friends
Oh god, we're gonna get at least 100 weird AC arts for cards lmao
Get ready for a faithless looting that's that one girl from Odyssey on her cell phone
faithless looting being the viking assassin saccing the monestary would be cool though lol
hopefully wotc is reasonable
I wonder what other WUBRG sliver wotc has cooking
That'd be cool, but I really don't see any cards from Ragnarok happening
Only because it's too new and sold like shit
I bet odyssey is the newest we'll see
And odyssey also sucked and sold like shit
So probably only a couple cards there
Maybe Kassandra, Socrates, the Oracle, and like a single card for her brother/the cult
I just wish it’s a good draft experience, lotr draft proved to be lackluster after the novelty wore off
True kid
