Frodo being a draw engine that can loot and Sam fueling the draw engine is pretty good

Jesus fuck that was a lot
This also reprints [[Genesis Wave]]
Prize pig and frying pan read good
But commander cards are only legacy and vintage legal right? Not modern?
yup
Wait I just realized
Prize pig goes damn near infinite no?
Even if you like, gain 15ish life in a life gain deck, surely you can snowball that into at the very least a long turn
[[heliod sun crowned]]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7OVyWfsCF8 why is it called prismatic black?
What was the best deck ever? We started with the 27 Standard decks to win a World Championship, played five rounds of Swiss, and now we bring you each match of the Top 8. Andrea is playing Thoralf here and either Black Knight or Psychatog could be knocked out of the tournament.
♞👾 Decklists: https://bit.ly/43om5Nb
______________________________...
wow I really like this 1997 black aggro deck
Ren why did you turn into a dragon

It's a mostly mono-b deck that splashed stuff like [[Chromatic Lantern]] to play [[Golos]]
Legendary Artifact Creature — Scout
When Golos, Tireless Pilgrim enters the battlefield, you may search your library for a land card, put that card onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.

: Exile the top three cards of your library. You may play them this turn without paying their mana costs.
3/5
Well that and [[Prismatic Vista]]
Huh, well this one is from 1997
Kinda like this
is it because it's using lands like gemstone mine and city of brass to splash utility creatures/cards?
Green monke, incinerate for push, pyroblast, manowar
Ah it's an older deck with the same idea

iirc that other version of chromatic momoblack was before golos
you used mastermind's acquisition to fetch other colored stuff from your sideboard
||CHOKING SANDS FOR GAME
||
[[choking sands]]
Bro Thoralf has been getting clapped so hard this entire tourney lmao
Whoops wrong reply
Meant to @atomic harness
Mythic championship winner btw
It’s a 1997 deck, so I’m not that surprised
Anyways, Andrea’s adaptation in g3 was great
Makes me realize how far I still have to go to be a good mtg player
With the semis we have though
I think it’s going to be Temur energy vs hazored
And hazored will take home the title of best standard deck ever
Toralf isn't a bad player
But Mengu is on another level
agreed caster
I heard contagion was a surefire way to kill psychatog and mengu said something about it being black force of will (endearingly)
Oh it's because it literally is Black's FoW in that cycle
In theory it is stronger than FoW since it can provide an even trade
Being able to trade two cards for zero mana and one life to kill to X/1s is pretty nuts in theory
Unfortunately, the amount of relevant X/1s doesn't ever beat out the amount of times a free counter spell saves you
[[Scars of the Veteran]]
Instant
You may exile a green card from your hand rather than pay this spell's mana cost.
Distribute three +1/+1 counters among one, two, or three target creatures. For each +1/+1 counter you put on a creature this way, remove a +1/+1 counter from that creature at the beginning of the next cleanup step.
Now we are hitting good cards
This is also, in theory, better than FoW and in practice, better than Contagion
The ability to just delete anything with four toughness or less or clear four X/1s, or two X/2s or an X/3 and an X/1
Contagion could never
There are so many ways Pyrokinesis can create awful situations for an opponent
Would be crazy if they put it on a creature, made it cost one less mana and had the creature be a double striker with evoke for the same conditions as Pyrokinesis

But yeah this cycle is why Grief, Solitude, and Endurance all got entirely new effects and why Subtlety got nerfed down
Fury escaped by actually just being better than Pyrokinesis
Others in the cycle buffed because they sucked
One nerfed for the crimes of FoW
and... the last one buffed because...?
ngl fury is the biggest problem child in modern atm
idt it needs a ban but holy shit its so backbreaking
coppercoat vanguard and jirina were def designed around fury
fury and solitude
Mhm
We are definitely going to be seeing more wards and interesting ways for threats to circumvent Fury and Solitude in Modern
Sauron is a good example
Forcing them to eat a legendary creature or artifact is a big deal
It means that Fury and Solitude cannot evoke for a measely two for one
They need to three for one themselves to remove Sauron
Granted, I think Sauron is too much mana for Modern
But the point stands
ya basically
Fury
that took me a solid second lmao
Wtf why didn’t anybody say they had 400 gems for 1500 gold
Cash out on gems @inland folio
You have till 11
Commander Night fucking exhausted me
Busted out Ashnod and realised my deck literally just spun wheels
Either that or I couldn't draw into any of my wincons
Putting this in Shelob
Remember this will eat your food with an ability and give you a regular food
I think?
I think so too, it’s an instead ability
shelob creates a token thats a copy of a thing thats a food in addition to its other types and it loses all types
so it creates a food
this sees it
and justs gives you a regular food, a treasure, and a clue

sorry, our rulebook is actually very good
Is it hugs
compared to the ygo one? It's like comparing a sweet hard caramel candy to a stinky sock
here, read that for fun
Your a stinky sock
No I’m an mudkip sock

woah they powercrept essence scatter
Isn't seb the anti Vax guy?
I forgot if he's anti vax but he participated in that stupid canadian truck caravan iirc
wouldn't surprise me at all yeah
Either way, he turned out to be a bit of wackjob
iirc wotc stopped working with him
they might still have art from him in the pipeline depending on how far they work ahead on that stuff
Its not been officially confirmed iirc
Because they dont do that
But we havent had new seb art in ages so
Probably
unrelated but i'm thinking about this exchange:
what do you mean you didn't notice what the mechanic is called, it literally says on the card
Tbh that explanation is silly
A bog-standard knife is a piece of history?
Meanwhile lands arent
Bruh wtf
Tried out my friend's Tivit deck last night because I'm building him, and it made me realize red really is just easy mode in cedh
Not having will, dockside, and breach hurts
Although I did get to do a fun [[Angel's Grace]] into [[Ad Nauseam]] for Thoracle play
Instant
Split second (As long as this spell is on the stack, players can't cast spells or activate abilities that aren't mana abilities.)
You can't lose the game this turn and your opponents can't win the game this turn. Until end of turn, damage that would reduce your life total to less than 1 reduces it to 1 instead.
Made me realize how good Dress Down and Angel's Grace are
dress down
Dress down is a 2 mana "end the turn" most of the time
Angel's Grace is also a 1 mana "end the turn" that can be used to kill a combo player or Thoracle
Love that fucking card
Stomped everyone with nissa today that was fun
Having a battle with myself over if I should bite the bullet and get allosaurus Shepard
On the one hand, can't be countered is so good, on the other hand it's £23 and clogs the nissa search
how is it clogging nissa search

this was stuck in transit for so long istg
Curious. Did you have an obsession with it?
Just had a 40 minute g1 vs azorius AMA
what azorius deck
Explorer Azorius control
Anyone know any big dumb green creatures? I wanna make a mono green Timmy deck where I just play the big bois
do you want the big dumb green creature as commander or not
I'd probably just make the commander mana and card advantage to get the big dumb creatures out easier
my suggestion if you were looking for the commander would have been uh
what a goated little green dude
I'll probably be boring and make my commander selvala or something
She'll probably go in the deck
hydras
Definitely worth looking into thank you
Gargos is one of my favorite edh decks
its a very snowball sorta deck tbf
you durdle your way to gargos and suddenly start playing 6/6's for 2
or 4/4s
he even has synergy with common green protection spells that you'd want to play anyway
[[Snakeskin Viel]]
Can I do anything interesting with [[rocco, Street chef]]
Legendary Creature — Elf Druid
At the beginning of your end step, each player exiles the top card of their library. Until your next end step, each player may play the card they exiled this way.
Whenever a player plays a land from exile or casts a spell from exile, you put a +1/+1 counter on target creature and create a Food token. (It's an artifact with "
,
, Sacrifice this artifact: You gain 3 life.")
2/4
You're better off playing his first card
Well yeah, og Rocco i see all the time at my cedh tables
But I’m just deckbuilding random shit in standard rn
Btw Saint, if you don’t mind me asking, what locals do you go to?
I recently moved to VA Beach, so Tower of Games here
But Atlantis is better
It's a 15ish minute drive
Oh wtf I thought you said you were in northern VA
why is this an elf?
I used to be
in standard some people used him in naya ramp
I think it's just worse jund tho
Eh I tried Naya ramp, I got bored pretty quickly
Rocco would benefit from the hobbit cards in the lotr set, but not standard legal
Yknow coming from a hearthstone background
It took a while for me to take in how the RPS worked
In Hearthstone its Aggro > Midrange > Control
But just recently I learned that in MTG its Control > Midrange > Aggro
what format
time to play historic :^)
and yeah I feel like builds are everything, I think if you're running a ton of removal you're gonna shit on monored at this point, who run out of steam super fast rn
Conversely, mono-removal is pretty ass agains the deck with Invasion of Gobakhan and Thalia
Though tbh Azorius Soldiers/Mono-White are more close to tempo as built right now
nah gobakhan is nuts in bo1 too
u dont play it with thalia tho
has potential to be even more backbreaking in bo1
its thalia or gobakhan
u only bring both vs control
but in bo1 control isnt real
I've been running it in monowhite midrange
I figured it would slot in perfect but it's been really bleh
bring ur curve down a little lower
yeah I switched over to esper legends and azorius control
i find control is still super mid rn
legends for when I actually want to climb, control for a ranked "pet deck"
but thats probs bc i have been playing with real control decks in the past month or so
yeah you need to answer thalia on curve or you suffer a heavy tempo loss
and the best sweeper in the format is 5 mana
midrange can eat the tempo from thalia
but they suffer vs gobakhan
- the hand peek
bankbuster was way more important to monowhite than I thought tbh
but yeah I get gobakhan in a more creature heavy build
flipping it is backbreaking on top of the hand peek eff
tbh tho
i do like pairing it with thalia for bo3
if bo1 u cut thalia or side her or gobakhan
tho
if ur brave
u can just run them together
[[recruitment officer]]
Creature — Human Soldier

: Look at the top four cards of your library. You may reveal a creature card with mana value 3 or less from among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.
"Every name on this list is already a hero! Will you add your own to it?"
2/1
oh I thought this grabbed soldiers for some reason lol
nah it grabs anything
nice that's gas
I forgot surge was just busted in general cause people talked about it so much vs invoke despair
wins combat, blanks removal, blanks brotherhoods end and burn down the house
card is busto

Fun fact: The probability of finding the 001/001 One Ring in a collector booster is <0.00003%.
The probability of getting struck by lightning during one's lifetime is approx. 0.0065%.
Which means you're ~200 times more likely to get struck by lightning than to open the One Ring
1312
139
Yeah the ring is SUPER gambling
Honestly, I'm surprised it's not illegal to sell collectors boosters to children if they keep doing the serialized cards and 1 in 100 chances at shit
Although I guess they can keep getting away with "technically the cards don't hold any monetary value"
Anyone know a good MTG proxy website for the UK?
As in one that'll print em not one that makes em
Does makeplayincards work?
Looks like it should, I'll look into it, might ask around see what their views on printing proxies through them is
Just want to make lotr variants of cards to put in my sauron edh deck
this worked perfectly fine for me
The easiest way to print kitchen-table proxy cards for Magic: The Gathering (MTG) with MakePlayingCards (MPC). No prior knowledge required.
don't think shipping was too awful
only things I shipped were full 100 card decks though
Awesome thanks yall
Do you know which size to select?
Ah I see the US card game size option that's good
if you use mpc fill I think it does everything for you
The issue is I want to use custom art and text
Awesome thanks again
the auto generate proxy link sounds promising though I haven't checked it myself

the only planeswalkers in the dnd set are characters that canonically end up in places they shouldn't, have treversed realms of existence or have the power to do so

This is the worse Etali of all time
That feeling when you use an opponents card better then them
What the fuck was that cycle from new Capenna with shit like [[Jennie Faye, Jetmir's Second]] in it? These mana costs look ugly as hell
Custom-magic ass
It is kinda neat that you can cast them for mono color if you want
It is, but more than 1 different hybrid symbol in a mana cost and my brain shuts down
I like the idea, but they're gross looking
I agree with it being gross looking. I hate how the mono green is in the middle
The middle symbol is always the normal one

1/1
the benefit being that u now get lurrus
Hm
I guess I can see that, but Lurrus being 3 to add and then 3 to cast is kinda awkward ngl
its the best grind card in historic ngl
even tho crucias is powerful and long lasting
Yeah my main thought was, do Ninjas want grind more than tempo? Im not sure tbh
this is an insane fucking card
cantrip + blow up x artifacts for 4 mana uncounterable since u dont cast it
if this was modern legal it would see play in living end
4 mana blow up + draw 1 + have a 9/7 trampler to bring back with living end
I don't play in a pod with artifacts I need to have this in is my issue
I'm sure it's great in other stuff but like I'm just probably gonna cut it
maybe so but it isnt underwhelming
It is to me cause it's just kinda boring, I'm not a huge fan of effects like this
you may not need it in your deck but this is a good card
Oh no it's absolutely good
its underwhelming to you is a better way to word it but it is a very strong card
Yeah that's what I was going for
Need to find a replacement for cavern hoard dragon in the deck since that's going in dragons
archon of cruelty ig?
archon is good but what deck
It's just gonna go in my sauron deck as a possible late game play/ re animation target
oh sure
Deck has enough filtering to get it in the grave easy
Need to look into getting a vilis
Right I think I got just about everything ready for sauron, I'll pick up the rest when the pre order prices aren't insane
man I've missed this card so much
I remember the deck I built around this card in historic was my favorite time playing magic
it's so fun it's crazy
yugioh
The greatest spoiled girl of all time.
Meme about people trying to find the 1 of 1 Ring
Question, is ring bearer a status that checks like phased out creatures
if your ringbearer phases out it's still your ringbearer
What if you pick a new one, does it keep the ring bearer status since it doesn't exist?
no
How does the ring bearer turning stuff legendary work?
Like if I have two grizzly bears and one of them is tempted by the ring, do I have to send one of the grizzly bears to grave?
nope
the card itself becomes legendary
if another effect makes grizzly bears legendary
then it would actually kick in
yeah it only matters for effects that look for legendary creatures specifically
so if Balrog attacked while your grizzly bear is your ringbearer, your grizzly bear can block it
but only the one that is being affected by the ring, the regular grizzly bears cannot
We're going full harem here
What was the best deck ever? We started with the 27 Standard decks to win a World Championship, played five rounds of Swiss, and now we bring you each match of the Top 8. Andrea is playing Carl here and either Hazoret or Bitterblossom could be knocked out of the tournament.

It’s time
Huh I just saw Nikachu’s turn 0 deck challenge and remembered something that happened when I played limitless
They banned a couple cards beforehand (like chancellor of dross) but the adaptations made me think of when I got Pact of the Titan banned
|| I hope prismatic black at least makes it into the finals||
|| I doubt it can beat hazored due to its insane creature quality, but itd be nice to see||
Sorry kid ||temur energy vs hazored finals is eminent ||
||well I hope hazored wins it all then
||
||hazored is actually such an insane deck tbh, it almost seems unfair||
scrapheap and bomat are broken kid
also karn scion of urza my beloved
||in quarter finals he used it to outgrind, here in semis he made thicc constructs||
Not to mention, chainwhirler was basically ||an FTK vs faeries||
The fact that ||it went 3 games is a compliment to what’s his name||
||yeah though funnily enough it never actually wiped a field of fairies, I think carl played the best that he can. G1 G2 it got seized iirc, G3 mengu played it asap when carl didnt have mana up yet for flashfreeze so he can apply as much pressure as possible||
Yeah but I think the threat more than anything was enough

decided for my birthday instead of a commander deck, I want some blue and green cards (leaning more towards blue) that are just cheap and generic good stuff that I can possibly add to the Doctor Who commander deck
I might get the Frodo one because he’s pretty close to tymna but locked to abzan and less good but he’s much harder to block
Probably not, you’ll have to play him in a more stax/turbo style
Went to a pre release. My pulls.
That holo halfling might be worth a pretty penny
delighted halfling is a very nice pull
Birds of souls
Reading the card might explain the card but it will never explain why they printed the effect in the first place. Timmy and Coach go through everyone’s favorite storm combo in this video.

Somehow walked away with 3 sauron the dark lords
man anytime i ever pull The One Ring I'm just gonna think "Damn, it could've been the one"
Ok, I'm struggling with something, so I got Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer and I've been debating to but it in my Goblin deck or not, what should I do?
ragavan is like
probably the single best red one drop creature ever printed
it would make sense to run it in basically any mono red deck even if it isn't a part of the tribe the deck cares about
Well my deck isn't Mono-Red, it a tricolored deck of red, black, and white.
i feel like it's still worth it
ragavan is a mono-red mana dork for all intents and purposes
it fits p much all decks
In my Goblin deck in running a copy of Spectra Ward. In yalls opinion, is Spectra Ward just a worst Feat of Resistance?
[[spectra ward]]
Legendary Creature — Monkey Pirate
Whenever Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer deals combat damage to a player, create a Treasure token and exile the top card of that player's library. Until end of turn, you may cast that card.

[[futurist spellthief]] is so fun in cube
I'll say this after some time spent
MTG players are way better at giving players specific deck building advice
When someone asks for a deck that features a random jank card in MTG
They will give you a featuring it
Ask for it in Yugioh and you get a 10 minute lecture on why the random jank card is bad and shouldn't be played
(It's me)
(I give the 10 minute lectures)
tbf when it comes to yugioh you only have 1 lens to analyze cards under
with MTG you have multiple, based on format
it just kind of is easier to make jank work in mtg
like we had a red midrange deck top a modern challenge the other day playing fucking [[mazemind tome]]
Yu-Gi-Oh player being asked to help build an archetype that fell out of play a day ago: "THIS IS AWFUL BRO WHY DO YOU EVEN PLAY THIS"
magic player being asked to help build vanillas matter tribal: "Yo that's cool as hell, first off you're probably gonna need..."
Jokes aside casual edh is why I stick with magic tbh, it just lets me do my dumb ideas and I get to do fun synergies I otherwise couldn't
I just think like.. jank can work more than in yugioh
modern pioneer and to a lesser extent legacy all can kinda support jank, and then edh obviously
modern and pioneer have your setup turns which means you can just do jank
Jank still needs to pass the win on turn x threshold of each format
yea but its way more forgiving depending on the format
Crazy that we considering mazemind tome jank
Yeah but when I think of jank, I think unplayable in every format
eeeeh
Mazemind tome was playable as recent as covid era
I would say jank is unconventional tech that is rarely played or recognised in the format being discussed
like x card could be jank in modern but not in standard
yea i dont think i call bad cards jank
like i will still play jank myself
pet cards are jank
they arent bad just suboptimal or funky
Not bad for 2 collectors boosters
And 2 set boosters
Now the question is sell the sauron now or wait a bit and see if he goes up? I'm gonna hold onto the halfling because it's a really good card, and I'll probably end up selling the ring
After playing with sauron as my commander
He is so much fun
Nobody wants to pay the cost to remove him, nobody can stop his orc army from amassing and his discard hand redraw mechanic isn't only easy to do it's also super good
I would be surprised if he doesn't go up
Gotcha. I'm tempted to build a grixis deck in the future, but I was thinking bolas
I'll consider sauron before selling him tho
He’s grixis, that’s all you need to know
I kind of wish some of the commander deck cards were modern legal
I guarantee you he's not as funny as knowing your opponent has a removal spell but doesn't want to use it I assue you
I was hype for a gw/r or b food beaters deck
Aren’t people opening packs like crazy for the ring though? It’s hard to imagine anything going up from the set
They also can't be reprinted
Once all the hype dies down after December reprints, all the stuff is gonna be stuck at that price
I mean they can as universes within
But they said they're not doing those for things often
didnt the warhammer stuff get reprinted on the list?
i thought that was why they crashed in price
[[Gandalf the Grey]]
Legendary Creature — Avatar Wizard
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, choose one that hasn't been chosen —
• You may tap or untap target permanent.
• Gandalf the Grey deals 3 damage to each opponent.
• Copy target instant or sorcery spell you control. You may choose new targets for the copy.
• Put Gandalf on top of its owner's library.

[[Gandalf, Friend of the Shire]]
You are thinking of gandalf the white probably
someone in brazil allegedly opened the one ring
We're gonna be seeing a ton of them
It's super fucking easy to fake
I can get y'all 50 1/1 rings rn for $10
The holo part on the lettering on the ring will eventually be faked also
Wotc is going to have to confirm the legitimacy of the one ring once it’s pulled
Yeah, some of the people I know who do their own foiling can get it figured out in a few weeks at worse
We can tell this one is fake because it's not curled lmao
We’re talking about potentially millions of dollars on the line
Yeah, this is really easy to replicate
Also, tbf wotc probably doesn't care to validate it
They make the money off the packs being opened
The ring is just pr to them. They'll argue "it has no monetary value"
The funniest god damn thing to me is I know for a fact they didn't slip a certificate of validity in the collectors pack with it like they absolutely knew this was going to happen
They just didn't care lmao
Oh yeah, no shot there's a certificate of authenticity
Hell, the ring is probably gonna end up in one of their shredded landfill packs in a few years
They don't care about the actual card. All they care about is the PR and people spending $40 (which is absurd) for a lottery ticket
Jesus. I think they add a markup for UB stuff, but also non-standard sets get them anyways
MH2 collector boosters were like $45
My lgs just adds on a lot to RRP
Mine adds a bit, but these packs are anywhere from $35-$55 online as is
So they jacked up the price just because of the lottery ticket inside
Would be funny if this is what gets them that gambling lawsuit again lmao
The fact that I can buy literally 2 of anything in this set singles wise for the price of a collector's pack
Yeah the only singles with any value are gandalf, sauron, and the one ring
Gotta be the foil one ring, not the regular
You forgot orcish bowmasters
Oh right, he's like $30
So yeah, there's 3 card worth the value of the booster lmao
Glad I pulled 2/3 but the majority of people won't
At least you can maybe get a sol ring
I honestly only like the elven one
Yeah
That's the coolest, but it is like $500
The other two are like $250 and $100 respectively
Honestly my favourite sol ring is the sauron one
Oh I meant like in this set sorry I should've been more specific
Ah yeah, the sauron and the elf ones are the two best
Kinda upset they didn't give the hobbits one of the one ring stored in Bilbo's house
The one ring already has like 4 cards
I meant like a sol ring of it
Cause it feels weird that the hobbits have to use the art of sauron holding the ring in their deck for their sol ring
Yeah true
It's weird because clearly a lot of detail was put into this set
But also, a LOT of corners were cut
So like half the people working on it really wanted to adapt LoTR properly
And then the other half just didn't really care
But I guess that's been kinda the Wotc mo lately
Half ass most things and randomly put effort into the rest
Me watching wotc put almost no reanimation targets in the sauron precon

No wotc, siege gang commander is not a good reanimation target
Inferno titan is not a good reanimation target either
magic players 6 years ago would call u crazy for that
Like wotc
It's right there
It's fun
It's cheap money wise
Just give it a new lotr themed name
it shares a creature type with sauron so it actually triggers the path of ancestry you put in there despite the only creature sharing a type with sauron being saruman
It's fake, untextured
I sure do love... 3 1/1 goblins? 3 damage? In a four person game?
oh rip
God we're gonna see that forever now aren't we?
Just a billion fakes
That get more and more convincing
yep
maybe there is no real ring and it's just whatever the most convincing fake sells for the most
the real ring was the friends we made along the way
I'm honestly half convinced even if there is a real one, no one is gonna see it
Remember when they shredded a shitload of stuff from standard packs and MH2 and sent it to a random Texas landfill?
There's like a decent chance that happens again and the pack contains the ring
Not even that
You just have to plant a fake one in the landfill
Don't have to hide it well or at all
Wotc can't deny it's the real one as it'd make it clear that they know where and what shipment the ring is in, and they can't make a new one to replace it otherwise they run the risk of it being a fake and there being two one rings
They really didn't think this 1/1 thing through
With sports cards, they guarantee you have a certificate of authenticity included (sometimes digitally)
All this hype for a card that's gonna rot in the back of a Walmart in Tucson, Arizona
Actually, can it end up in a commander deck?
The "sample pack" is 2 random collectors boosters cards
If that's the case, there's way more products it could be randomly in and never found
well time to go to tucson, arizona
If you can afford to buy every collectors booster and commander deck in Tuscon, AZ, you'll have spent more than the ring is gonna be worth
Apparently serialised cards cant appear in those (?)
Can they not?
Huh, I figured they were just randomly inserted into the sheets, and the collectors booster sheet is used for the sample card
Either way, point is the 1/1 ring will likely never be found
And if it does, it's probably gonna be found by SCG or similar
Nah it makes sense for the sample pack stuff to be separate
If it was in a random sample pack though I would guarantee that shit would end up in a landfill
damn that's the crit
Today I break down how to play one of Legacy’s goofiest decks, The Spanish Inquisition. This is an updated version brought to us by Lycheex on tappedout: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/16-01-15-the-spanish-inquisition/

why ever play blast zone in a deck with heavy removal lol
are they triggered by spirits or something, when you're supposed to have threats on curve anyways

man calim is such a perfect card for control the more I see it
cycling, tapping and providing a wincon all in one
I hate the mentality of MTG finance bro. "All of the cards that you need to play the game are cheap. The price is all in aesthetic stuff like serialized cards. Oh no, this is so bad."
The set still contains enough value for vendors to buy it and there seems to be a good supply of the cards reaching the market. It just seems silly to complain about the accesibility of the set.
$430 for a box? Holy shit of course you lose value. They were $300 preorder before all this hype so pulling $240 worth of cards if anything seems average. He juts overpayed on the hype price.
Thoughts @twilit canyon @clever sun ?
Cast is better right now
Man that sucks
Aren’t proxies not allowed for play anyways?
The official ruling is only not in tournaments
And you're allowed exceptions there
Was there just an announcement or something?
If I'd have to guess it's probably because more and more people are just proxying everything in EDH
(Because you have to to keep up if you're not spending $3k a deck)
Someone reported our lgs for the staff encouraging and selling proxies (they don't at all) and now the store is banned from any proxies being played at all
I mean, technically they do
Salty players crying about their RL cards they “invested” in
I've literally had that happen when I've played proxies at stores I'm not used to
I'll join the high power tables, they'll play shit like Gaea's Cradle and duals and then I'll play a proxy and they go "man you're ruining the game. You shouldn't be able to just print off the best cards"
Right so I've gotta spend too much money to buy them. I see
Yes
Give me like 3 months though, I’ll be making 6 figures by then
And I still won’t buy a cradle
time to make a cradle that has the downside of losing 1 life so it's not a direct reprint
Lose 1 life then gain 1 life
Welp my partner found out cauldron familiar goes infinite with samwise and a sac outlet
is [[viscera seer]] legal in modern?
if so i feel like there's gotta be something there
this is an infinite you can do in just 3 turns with only 3 cards if you have the right fixing
and given that this is modern that isn't that hard to do
3 card combos are weak to a lot
could you not just [[blood artist]]
or whatever yawg uses
no need
oh yeah
cat does the win
like thoughtseize, removal, countermagic etc
i forgor
it is an issue to 3 card combo tho
thats why i said unknown if it does anything outside historic
cus historic is the only format where sacrifice is a decent deck still
you get to slot it in some asmo decks though
you can just use finale to fish out a missing piece
which you're playing to grab asmo anyway
but we're flying a bit too close to the aspiringspike sun here
breach combo plays grinding station so I guess there is a shell
even then tho breach combo kinda fell off to fair breach
yea it completely dissappeared lol
Is cauldron not legal in alchemy too?
nope
Ah shame
I’m actually really fucking sad just like mudkip, that a lot of the food synergies are commander only
cauldron technically is legal in alchemy if you get really lucky with [[cursebound witch]]
both the cat and the oven are in the spellbook
Draft Token, get your Draft Token here
draft token day lets gooo
smh i never have enough gold for these
@twilit canyon you got a budget list using some of the new lotr stuff? any format will do
It’s a shame I’m only interested in like 5 cards
We give the @MTGGoldfish classic, Against the Odds, a try. But Cardmarket-style! Can Seth's Stuffy Doll list beat the best deck in modern?

anyone remember which game knight episode had the card wedding ring in it?
[[prince imrahil the fair]]
this guy curves super fucking nicely with skystrike officer
[[skystrike officer]]
[[sky strike officer]]
Oh I lagged and didn’t see someone already call it lol
New Deaths Shadow for regional champions
Qualifiers get this art
Participants get... Silumgar?
Who wanted Silumgar
@clever sun
Oooh I like that Shadow art
The shadow art is sick
But you'd have to proxy it or spend like $1k for a playset
Actually probably like $4k, it's regional champs only
Oh I was way off, the Ragavan is $4k a copy
Tbf ragavan is more widely used
Also why is that Offer, that's FoF???
Inspired by the Jace FoF
It's very much the art of FoF. Weird to see it on Offer
do you think the people who design secret lairs even know the lore of the game or what art they're referencing lol
Sometimes they clearly do, but the offer seems like corporate meddling
I can almost guarantee it was supposed to be the bonus card for the cat lair and FoF
What even was the bonus card for that lair anyway
But then they changed it for some reason
Random sliver
Ah of course
Can't have 5 cards in lairs or a bonus card anymore
That's just too much value for $40 (even when the lair total value was like $20 and FoF is $0.25)
why would it be
like
???
fof has infinite reprints
offer is a new card
give it to offer
It's very clearly FoF's art tho
Like the card art is 100% FoF and it's the same as the other cat cards that use the same art, but with cats
Offer getting arts is nice, but it should be an art for Offer and not a FoF art on the wrong card
its a reference to fact or fiction
doesnt has to be fof
fact or fiction is "an offer you cant refuse"
this is very silly
not good but silly
@sleek ferry if u have the mana base for this, this deck is pretty cheap all things considered
[[nazgul]]
Huh that’s interesting
this is a major stretch
its not
god i wish my computer wasn't broken so i could get the token
An Off-Purrrr you cant refuse
hey does anyone know what happens if you choose a vehicle as your ringbearer and it stops being a creature?
does it continue to be the ringbearer or does the ring fall off
no clue but i can figure it out in a bit
gut feeling is that it would stop being the bearwr
*bearer
okay explain?
theyre not offering you anything other than a choice
fact or fiction is no more an offer they cant refuse than any other card that presents some kind of option to the opponent
if we're talking about like The Godfather, "an offer he can't refuse" meant strong arming somebody with threats of or acts of violence, then reimbursing them a bit to keep the peace
Did he use it like that?
It's been ages since I've seen it but I thought it was some guy asking for help
as i recall they went to the guys estate and offered him a reasonable amount of cash for some under the table services
then when he said no they killed his horse and left him the cash
wait was it to that guy?
i believe so
man I'm going senile
something about a movie role
idk i need an excuse to rewatch the Godfather anyhow
still its quite a stretch to say FoF flavorfully portrays the same concept
you can strongarm ppl with fof
how
wym how
the 5 cards u show
put them in piles of importance to force them to pick the more beneficial pile for urself
this is like
fof 101
i know
how fof works
when you make the piles
you want to force your opponent to pick a pile that benefits you
clearly you dont since you dont make the piles
i know
youre thinking of steam augury
you as in
you the opponent
vs the person who is playing fof
you want to separete the piles in a way that benefits you
you want the person casting fof to make a bad choice
or a suboptimal choice
ie: they reveal a super important card for their deck. you put it alone.
or: they are mana screwed
put all lands in 1 pile
that sounds more like "An Offer I Can't Refuse"
this is some serious mental gymnastics
its okay that you didnt remember how to resolve fof there is no reason to pivot like that
I think you didn't understand what Misty meant
Yeah I understood she meant the pile you pick as an opponent
This is silly in any case
i will agree that steam augury is closer to an offer you cant refuse flavorfully speaking
I think it's dumb to be upset or weird about art that kind of looks like FoF being used on An Offer
What?
you just called me dumb
What
I said I think it's dumb to be upset about or weird about something so inconsequential
Never directly called you dumb
Or implied it. I didn't even know you were upset about it.
i mean upset is a strong word
i do think its a really missed mark when it comes to flavor
but hardly the worst example in recent times
generally its not a good idea to set yourself as the determiner of the validity of something though
this is actually the worst flavor fail in my recent memory
artifact destruction / removal spell but then the flavor text is talking about birds?
That one is fine. It's just saying that the original Falkenrath was a falconer and the modern line is still brutal
It's a bit of a non-sequitor but I can see what they're going for
There's way worse ones
In terms of LOTR stuff, I think [[Bombadil's Song]] is up there in terrible flavor
Instant
Target creature you control gets +1/+1 and gains hexproof until the end of turn. The Ring tempts you. (A creature with hexproof can't be the target of spells of abilities your opponents control.)
"Hey dol! merry dol! ring a dong dillo! Ring a dong! hop along! fal lal the willow! Tom Bom, jolly Tom, Tom Bombadillo!"
(Bombadil feels no effects of the ring, the only reason he couldn't carry it is because he immediately got bored and forgot about it because of how ancient he is)
JACE CAT JACE CAT
For purely in universe, it's gotta be [[Plargg and Nassari]] considering Nassari was compleated, died, and then got better?
Legendary Creature — Orc Efreet
At the beginning of your upkeep, each player exiles cards from the top of their library until they exile a nonland card. An opponent chooses a nonland card exiled this way. You may cast up to two spells from among the other cards exiled this way without paying their mana costs.
5/4
how come some walkers were healed but some died or were just left compleated
Random chance, who knows
Some were because of the story sake or because they're marketable
But the whole phyrexian arc was handled really poorly.
nassari was uncompleated bc they are an efreet
It took melira's life and Karn's spark to heal Ajani and Nissa, but Nahiri just woke up and she was good
Nassari was outright dead tho
efreet are just spirits so once they popped, they just returned back to their original form
right and efreet dont just die
Killian pushed them off the roof and they were dead dead
iirc efreet can only really be killed by iron and rubies
any other death isnt permanent
The Venser in the set was a corpse
Aye misty
Venser was really cool tho, he deserved better
He's also supposedly one of the strongest new walkers
Considering his spark let him control all metal
he was ambiguously powerful but he was cool
Weird how they killed the guy with complete control over metal on the metal planet
cant be total control or else he would have been able to solo new phyrexia
I mean they had said he had complete control and then backed out when it mattered
so then it wasnt full control
Although this storyline, they did the same thing with Nahiri
He was like rick
There was a running plot point about because Nahiri had control over metal, she could control the compleation
But then they had her blow up and die
And then she just walked off the compleation
Honestly, the writers are super inconsistent with Nahiri
and she lost her spark like a bozo
its fine cus fuck nahiri
easily one of the most dislikeable and awful characters they made
the writers clearly dont work together
See the thing is Nahiri is really interesting when done right
and the company that commissions the stories doesnt care enough to check that it all adds up
i dont see how she is super interesting tbh
And I do still stand by you can at least sorta see where they were going with her revenge arc in Shadows of Innistrad
nahiri was pretty cool throughout SOI
Tell em misty
yeah genocide is something u can just see where she was going with it
Because Sorin did it first on a much bigger scale
Sorin ignored her cries for help because he was too busy taking care of Avacyn
It caused 1/3rd of her entire plane to get destroyed
So she said "fuck it" and killed Sorin's family
and yet she is a kor supremacist
and we also know zendikar was totally able to survive and thrive
The Emrakul thing wasn't even her going "I'm gonna genocide his plane"
Ugin made it really clear that Emrakul was gonna break through SOMEWHERE
The choice was where
she lured emrakul to innistrad
yeah but she deliberately lured it to a populated place
And Nahiri was being a bit selfish but went "well Sorin did it to me last time, so fuck him"
ugin and sorin and nahiri had agreed to lure her where it wouldnt hurt anyone

.
