i will say that this event being on special pool has been nice for pulling a bunch of ships i wouldn't normally have gotten

got the last sub in the ironblood comp and aquila for musashi/aquila comps in later campaign worlds

as usual i have no idea what the fuck any of this means

nikke skill descriptions are inscrutable

as far as i can tell, she basically does two different things depending on what buffs she gets:

1. if she gets a buff to "sustained damage" (i.e., DoTs), she applies a DoT to things she shoots with full charge and makes them take more damage
2. if she gets a buff to "distributed damage" (i.e., AoE damage split among all enemies like what SBS and QEQ do), she instead triggers a big distributed damage nuke to all enemies every time she shoots something with full charge

and in either case she halves her own charge speed (i.e., doubles her charge time), so she's not shooting as often but each shot packs a much bigger punch

she has no self-buffs to sustained/distributed damage, so she's entirely dependent on what characters you pair her with

so she's simultaneously flexible (in the sense of working with both DoT + distributed damage teams), but also inflexible (since she needs to be paired with one or the other; without buffs to one she basically doesn't function)

her raw numbers seem pretty high so i think there's potential she's quite good in the right team comps

but she's fundamentally niche since she'll only ever be used in DoT/distributed damage teams

...which we don't really have many of

in fact i'd say we only have nikkes enough to build one (maid pirates to make a distributed damage team)

and maids currently use SBS+alice sooooooo awkward

i think she has the potential to age pretty well as we get more buffers for each type of damage but right now she seems like a premature release due to us lacking those buffers

easy skip + wishlist later for me, though the design is peak

i know we have the pirate maids for buffing distributed damage... i'm trying to think if we have any buffers for sustained damage

the only one i can think of is summer rosanna

who is good, but needs a boss with parts to really shine (same with summer sakura, her natural partner)

so bready's pairs right now are either pirate maids who are reserved for SBS, or a limited unit who's only optimal against bosses with parts to kill regularly

not a great state to be released in, though you gotta wonder if this is a hint for the type of nikkes we'll be getting in the next few events (especially anni, but i imagine her smol squadmate that's also been teased will be another buffer of one or the other, possibly both)

last bit of analysis is that her skill 1+2 seem quite strong on their own (in fact basically all the damage in her kit is in S2), so she may ultimately slot in to distributed/sustained comps as an off-burst DPS

getting kry's 5* weapon is also pretty good

so what's general game progression look like?

run story mode, do dailies?

so yeah getting reasonably far into story mode is important and probably worth focusing on first. you get free copies of four 5* costumes from the first 3 chapters (herb tracker lathel, white reaper justia, lapis witch schera, sharpshooter gray) and they are all decent

you'll also get access to pubs which have rotating characters you can recruit permanently using a contract currency, basically a way to skip relying on gacha for those characters (other than for dupes since you can only recruit them in the pub once)

some story chapters have guaranteed characters that will always appear in the pub until you recruit them, the most important of those (off the top of my head) are:

• chapter 4: olstein (not useful for combat, but he has a "dispatch" skill that works like dispatches in other gachas, basically just free goodies once per day)
• chapter 8: liatris (one of the best physical AoE chars in the game)
• chapter 10: diana (quite literally the best general buffer in the game to the point she's a crutch for most PvE content. she also has a dispatch skill separate from olstein's, letting you get 2 sets of dispatches per day)
• chapter 15: dark saintess liberta (best physical buffer in the game)

there are some others along the way but they're not as important

so if you really want to min-max, the play is to rush to chapter 10 to get diana, and just make sure you're completing your dailies and other side content that you unlock along the way

you'll unlock other content as you go, notably:

• hunting grounds (used to farm gear crafting mats)
• path of adventure (used to farm character leveling mats)
• dark tower (general roguelike content that gives tons of free stuff from leveling mats to pulls)
• mirror wars (PvP, the currency for which can get you guaranteed characters from the PvP shop that rotate once per month. also dia, the premium pull currency, from ranking up)
• last night (make very large 20 costume team, hit training dummy boss super hard, get ranked on how much damage you did and get daily rewards based on certain breakpoints of damage)

you'll realize quickly that this game has entirely too many currencies, so the daily checklist can really be summarized by:

1. spend the currencies that refresh daily
2. get as much currency of the type that you accumulate over time (gear crafting, leveling, shop currencies), mostly from doing dailies

in total, doing those things takes about 5-10 minutes for me on any given day, and anything else like running the weekly or seasonal reset content (last night, dark tower stuff) is an occasional additional time sink

also story, which i am not fully caught up on yet but i want to be, because tbh BD2's main story is actually pretty decent

if BD2's main story were just part of its own single player RPG, separated from all the horniness in the rest of the game, it would honestly pass pretty well as its own game
