I've been catching up on Limbus' story, approaching Canto 6

I mentioned it before but I finished Canto 5 last night and

yeah I don't think I could run out of praise for this game series

unparalleled storytelling, methinks

to completely and extensively lay out all my thoughts would be an impossible task but to give a summary of what I consider to be its greatest strength: by using classical literature as a baseline of expectations for the characters and story, PM is able to subvert and expound upon whichever aspect they wish without betraying the innate standard of the original story

and in combination with the ultimate goal and message that they wish to convey (that happiness is worth reaching for, even when it's impossible) they're able to deliver exponentially more potent and, to be frank, beautiful stories than any of Limbus Company's contemporaries

it's a genius formula that can only be done by the right people, and they're the right people

idk if id agree with this point in particular, but i do think that pm is very adept at integrating classic literature into their stories in a way that doesnt detract from the experience for readers who dont know the references while also not just using them for surface level references
the reinterpretations they do in combination with the world itself being an esteblished one make them also more interesting than the fix it fics they would be if they were to just be isolated short stories.
limbus in particular really benefits from there being an established world they can build upon

regardless:

especially the parry and dodge counter systems

one complaint i have is that there is only one team option. no teams menu means u have to manually select teams but other than that the games p much like persona meets dmc

with hoyo elements on the side like a sim universe style mode and a spiral abyss mode

though they have a hades pact of punishment system for late-game
