So the way it works is:

1. You get yourself an area with Treeko
2. You fly to a nearby Pokemon Center and use it
3. You go into that area with any donut
4. You check if the spawn point for the Treeko is close to where you spawn into the map
5. If not, you close out the game, you use Up + X + B to load from Backup save. This returns you to the Pokemon Center, you get the Donut back, and you get the area back
6. Repeat 4-5 until you get a spawn close to where you spawn in
7. Once you get a good spawn you can now reset with a macro doing Map + A + A
8. If you don't yet encounter a shiny, repeat 4-7

It wasn't nearly as good as calling a cab, but it was just a neat thing to try out when you had time to do some sightseeing in XY

...On the subject, seeing actual automobiles in a game does feel weird, since I'm so used to many cities having very idyllic walkable streets with no cars in sight.

Places like Mesagoza, Wyndon or Mauville all have streets that look very walkable, giving the impression that people in the world of Pokémon thought about public transportation way, way more reasonably than people in real life ever did.
