been playing emerald imperium the last couple days and while some of the fights were really annoying, i guess my strat against tate and liza made it the freest gym battle of the game

t1 switch into rillaboom to get rid of psychic terrain and then the rest played itself

lopunny didn't even switch in and goodra only came in on the last turn to get incin out of there, so it was effectively a 4v6

bonus points for not using any of the ultra beasts or paradox mons i definitely could have brought to this fight

in contrast, brawly really fucking sucked to do; his team is loaded for being as early in the game as it is

but idk it feels like the later fights are a formality at this point

by the time you get to mossdeep you have access to all the paradox mons

and while some of the battles are challenging, i feel like rad red was more consistently difficult (which is funny since this game is directly stated to be inspired by it)

but we'll see how the final stretch of the game plays

oh also lokix goes super hard, love this critter

on the other hand, the mon i took as my starter, quaquaval, has felt underwhelming

even after it gets aqua step at 70, i haven't found a lot of room for it

if i need a water type, i'm usually bringing primarina

and now i have walking wake so that's another option

as for fighting type coverage, m lop goes without saying, but i've also been using iron valiant and a great tusk set that gets speed boost from protosynthesis

and they're all more self-sufficient than the duck

but even without them there were stretches where i just didn't use it

on the other hand, as in rad red, skeledirge is a god here, but only later on since it gets torch song pretty deep into the mid game

idek what i'm gonna take to the e4
