I don't think it is meta by any means, I did get a decent result with it yesterday

Mainly because you hit fast and hard, so gyarados is your best matchup, it's almost free if they don't highroll misty and have gyarados in hand by turn 3

Yesterday I was doing a tournament (top 32, couldn't crack higher) and blaine and gyarados were everywhere

Those 2 are by far the best matchups

You can even give a Leek to it so that it can nail a critical hit incredibly frequently

Getting EXP early on is rough going, but there are ways to make sure you got enough.

Finding lures and using them to get into double battles is a good way, since that's typically twice the experience your party gets. And you may want to prioritize mons that are more than capable of taking on any challengers (Meowth's a good choice, since Technician, coupled with it's movepool can put on the hurt on plenty things early on)

Items that can increse EXP yield are incredibly valuable for such a reason

Focus on aggressively leveling one single mon and building something that can comfortably sweep on its own. The rest of your team is either backup sweepers or support mons.

Later in the run you can pick up 5 exp alls, so your whole team will reach the level cap.

You want to load up a single mon with rare candies and vitamins

Also, be careful with lures. Double battles are good for exp, but they can kick your ass if your main carry can't hold its own or lacks support

Pokerogue is not exactly the kind of game where you can use your favorites and win right off the bat

You can power up your favorites and make them viable carries or supports

But right off the bat, some mons are just better than others.

It is one of those games where you can win with your favorites even if said favorites aren't very great in the actual games, but it definitely takes a bit of playing to get there. But each run you make, even if it isn't successful will add up.

Mostly applies to starters picked when beginning a new run, due to how starters will always use the best IV's for a given stat that you attained for that species, egg moves that were learned via hatching eggs, as well as any natures, abilities and shinies attained.

Nebby is a weird carry. It is really strong, but you need to have a carry for the early game and hope you find its (admittedly not rare) evo item early

If you can get it to fully evolve before like floor 55 you should be set for the whole run.

it's really interesting as it runs with the idea that if you dont get gyarados you are getting greninja or druddigon
if you get gren you can use that in the mean time
if you get drud you stall
it's interesting cause even when you draw poorly as long as it isnt an aggro deck you have a lot of time to draw into the cards you want
(and even with aggro decks since drud has 100 hp and the current aggro decks deal 90 so you have quite a fair bit of time to stall)

or get serperior immediately

to have a chance
